As soon as you cross the dam take the first turn off and you can drive down to the river and the base of the dam. There you can unload your gear and drive your car back up near the main road and then hike 1/4 mile down to the river. Very accessible. Plenty of shore fishing opportunities.
There are very few cutts in this section of the river and no brookies. Just brown and rainbow trout with about a 50/50 split between them depending what section of the river your on. Beautiful place!!
That is my all-time favorite stretch of water. I grew up on the Green River and and lived in Dutch John as a kid. I used to love to take my spinning set-up and out fish the flyfishermen. They'd be amazed at the fish we'd catch. I still make a trip out there once in a while with my little brother, we always have a great time and catch some great fish.
@Eyefishalot - You dont paddle back up river in most cases. You may paddle up through a run and fish it again if the run allowes. You put your boat in at one location and take it out down stream. You have to either move you truck & trailer to the take out point after you unload your boat up stream or hire a shuttle service to move your truck to the take out point.

How close can you get to this section below the dam by car? And how far do you have to hike after getting out of the car? Thanks for any info

I've always wonder, if you drift down the rivier with those boats, how hard is it to get back up? I have paddle kayaks and its merely impossible.

Great place to fish! The fish don't fight at all but they are pretty, easy to catch, and are plentiful. The view is always great there also.
