  • Hey M.I.C. Do you know if you can use this for LARPing? Like... does it break if it get's struck?

  • Great video! Ive heard that using Fabric Spray Paint is a good idea for flexible foam peices as well. Most of the time you'll find it in the automotive section of your local store or at your car parts store. It doesnt bond so rigidly and alows for some flex and movement. I will try it on a similar project im working on and see how it works.

  • @ClydetheSly

okies! i'll keep that in mind! thank you soooo much, Clyde!!

  • Wow thank you so much! This is exactly what I was looking for! Can you make one on how to do the paudlron (Shoulder piece as well?) (:

  • @6HateMe6LoveMe6

hey, there! sorry for the late reply. if you mean Cloud Strife's paudlron i'm not sure if it's possible to make it look *exactly* like his. you may have to do layer on top of layer to make it round (which, then again probably won't look as good). i have to find another material to do a tutorial on Cloud's armor.

  • Thank you so much for this!!! Im cosplaying as Dante Alighieri ^^ and this helped soo much!!

  • @dakota012795

    no prob! good luck!

  • nice!

  • @Batchelorpad4God

    thanks!

  • @MissInterpretCosplay np hey ur very talented and i loved the way u did this. the armor is epic looking!XD LOVE UR WORK! XD im currently working on my own costume if u like message me an ill tell u about it.

  • wow. thank you so much! this helps a bunch. you're awesome. <3

  • @57YL3

    no prob!

  • @MissInterpretCosplay just a quick question, if you're working with bigger pieces of foam (to make a breast plate, for example), how would you suggest heating it? or would you recommend using a different technique completely?

  • hey, i found your vieods really helpfull but i was wondering if it would work it you were to put cloth over the foam instead of painting it

  • @randomsnakapus

i guess it depends what kind of fabric you were using i suppose. is the fabric like a shiny like cloth?

  • @MissInterpretCosplay no because its not supposed to be shiny its more like a leather armour

  • @randomsnakapus

oh so you were using the foam as a layer to place underneath the leather material? not too sure to be honest. i guess maybe you would need a good few layers of foam to keep it hard and sturdy.

  • @MissInterpretCosplay yes exactly, and alright and i have seen thiker foam that i could use, so i'm sure i'd be able to get it to work. and thanks alot for the helpful video again :D

  • @randomsnakapus

no problem! i hope it works! good luck, and let me know how it turned out!! <3

  • @MissInterpretCosplay thanks and for sure :D <3

  • this is awesome!!! i'm going to try to make some armor for my torso, not sure if it will work the same way but it's worth a try, thanks ^^

  • @kittykiss11

  • This will help loads with my cosplays :D

  • @redwall211

    i hope so good luck!!

  • @MissInterpretCosplay Thanks! :3

  • What about a shoulder guard

  • @HaloReachFanatic100

it should work the same way. :) i made a shoulder guard for my (Dissidia) Gunner Yuna cosplay.

  • Gamecube FTW lol

  • Whoa... 6,666 views! of course I'm the only one who will see that.

  • @TheOozz7

  • do it till your satisfied! YEAH!

  • @MrRush629

    pffff!! roflmao!!! xD

  • @MissInterpretCosplay you know its true :p

  • Thank you for this video! I have to make armor for an upcoming cosplay want to do and had no idea what to do. Thanks again!

  • @tangledinblue14

    not a problem! good luck!!

  • if i can i would like to recommend using Montana spray paint. its a little thicker and pliable so it wont break as easily. they sell it at most graffiti shops if you know of any. and it comes in loads of different colors.

  • @wertzx

not sure if i have any graffiti shops in my area. can i find them online? :D and thanks for the tip!!

  • @MissInterpretCosplay yep. you can go to artprimo.com and buy it. theres a couple other places as well but theres a graff shop really close to me so i dont use it much.

  • Thanks for the tutorial ^w^

  • @Damon666Grant

    you're very welcome!! ^-^

  • ขอบคุณมาก♥

  • It was like magic, it went from craft foam to metal in seconds ^_^

Your videos are very helpful, I am working on an armor cosplay for a con in two months, and I needed to know how to make the arm things... I think they're called gauntlets, but I wasn't to sure on the craft foam idea, but I can see it will be pretty easy to do and it will be amazing looking. Thank you for posting your videos!

  • @AndiMcAwesomesauce

^^ hehe! aw, you're welcome! i hope this helps for you all! Penwiper is my hero!!! <3

  • waaa~ you're so epic and cute!! Loved this tutorial, it really helped me get a better idea of the penwiper tutorial THANKYOU!!

  • This is a fantastic tutorial and helped me a LOT with ideas on making my hawke cosplay! I was wondering if you could also show how you made the yuna hand armor or if there are videos that show how that's done since i'm still confused on how the fingers can be done. Thanks =]

  • @Kagomeinuyasha1

oh, sure! i'm running out of video ideas. i'll be sure to add that next on the video!! xD

  • Your voice is just sweet! <3

I'm going to cosplay Marth in a few months in my country, and this will be my first time making a Armor! And I'm sure that this will help me a lot!

  • name of product 5:02?

I m' brasilian! my future cosplay is Aioria gold armor 60 Days for confectionate costume

    ignorate ortografy errors ^^

  • @ANDERSONETAYNA

it's called Pledge with Future Shine. it says it has the "same acrylic protection" on it. it's basically a floor cleaner polish. xD

  • @ArchangelVsWorld

    yeah, that's the name!!!! thanks!!!!

  • YOU ARE AMAZING. THANK YOU!!! :D :D

  • oK, thank you again :D

  • @MichelleAeris

    no problem, sweetie!

  • I love you video! thankyou so much for the tutorial

  • @lawlietcupcakekiss

    you're welcome, dear! :3

  • Oh I love you.

  • @elfboychan

    *blushes* Aw, shucks! :3

  • Thank you, well i live in Puerto Rico and only there's a Wal-Mart and i never can't find it because of the name, with what other name do you know what's it called?

  • @MichelleAeris

oh! i see! hm... i think they're also called foam sheets as well. but as far as i know i don't think they have another name.

  • @MichelleAeris Do they have craft stores that sell beads and painting supplies and stuff like that? What you are looking for, whatever it is called is sheets of plastic foam that are about the size of piece of paper. The foam is a little porous you can see a little bit of tiny holes. It is about 2mm thick or thicker depending on what you buy and it is very very soft and flexable.

  • Where did you by the pledge I am having trouble finding it.

Also you can do awesome things with a stipple sponge and paint. You can make layers of metal colors. If you can not find a stipple sponge at a costume shop get a fish filter sponge at the pet shop. The kind that is really open and is more hole than sponge. You cut off a square, dip it in the paint, blot it and tap it on the surface. It can make tiny spots, big blotches or streaks. Try layering colors too :)

  • @lironess

i think i got that plegde from walmart. i think you can find them at other grocery stores. it says 'with acrylic protection'. that's the one Penwiper uses. but like i said on the video if you're brave to use spray paint instead of acrylic paint go for it. you can find the paint at places like Wal-mart as well in the craft department if you don't have a nearby craft store. :3

  • 4:58 Gamecube Controller!!!

  • @GreenBoyDope

    lol FTW, baby!! :p

  • @MissInterpretCosplay Gamecube ownz Wii xD

  • @MissInterpretCosplay And btw U ROCK! (K)

  • @GreenBoyDope

lol i will always love Gamecube! and thanks!!

  • love your tutorial, thank you

question where you buy the craft foam?

  • @MichelleAeris

you're welcome! :D oh! you can get them at most craft stores like Joanne Fabrics, and i think Michael's as well. but if those stores are too far away for you, there's always Wal-Mart or the Dollar Tree. i think the ones at the craft stores are a little cheaper than the ones at Wal-Mart. the Dollar Tree ones are a lil' thinner and are 1$ a pack of course! lol, but it sucks cuz they only have the 9x7 ones from where i'm from. ): i like the bigger ones better.

  • aaaaa, question question, so i'm thinking about cosplaying as vincent valentine, but theres alot of details on his armpiece, and i was wondering if it would be doable making it out of craft foam

  • @jonny5312

actually i've seen Vincent's arm piece done before by using craft foam. just give me a sec, and i'll see if i can find that video on here...

  • @MissInterpretCosplay

    oh, wait! i just went to your channel, and i see you already saw that Vincent Arm Progress video! :p hehe! *smacks her forehead.* ^^;

  • @MissInterpretCosplay yea, thanks but i've already started on it :) some great people have been helping me on deviantart XD thx enyways

  • you are totally awsomessssss

  • @anhcris

:3 aww!! thanks! but all credit goes to Penwiper with the tutorial! good luck with your armor! let me know if you have any questions. i'll try my best to answer them or ask the higher pros! lol xD

  • @MissInterpretCosplay do you know where i can get a mannequin, male torso with a head.... LOL but yeah i've got all the supplies but just no base structure to make it on

  • @anhcris

hm... i think you might be able to find them in craft stores. but for a cheaper way, i think there is a tutorial here on youtube on how you can make your own. you need like paper and duct tape and a second person to do it.

  • @anhcris Lol cool I guess I'll try that. Add me on FB /chris.p.tran

  • As black adder said: "MissInterpretCosplay, i love you and i wanna have your childrens" :p heh jokes aside, thats one bad ass tutorial!! ^-^ just what i need for that soul calibur 3 siegfried cosplay!!! :D

  • if u wanna save more time when paiting and the part u are making let u, try to hang the part and paint it completely, that will save u a lot of time. nice tutorial gave a lot of alternatives to some works i have

  • @BladeDKC

that really would have saved me time. lol thanks for the tip! and thanks for watching! :D

  • @MissInterpretCosplay

hehe dont worry and i may not know much about cosplaying but i do know a lil something of crafting with diferents things like wood or metal so feel free to ask anytime

  • @BladeDKC

:3 thank very much! <3 oh, you can craft metal? :D

  • @MissInterpretCosplay

i work with it.... search anything that has to do with "tool and die maker" or "machinist" or the machine itself "milling machine" or "lathe machine" hehe

  • this is a great tutorial! i love it! the way you narrate it reminds me of Yuna from X-2 narrating lol its so cute! :)

  • @HarajukuShoujo

lol really? that's the best compliment ever!! xDDDD thanks for watching! good luck!

  • @MissInterpretCosplay Thanks! Im going to need it! - Im doing Tim Burton's Alice armor for Anime Boston @_@'

I was ging to go with a much more difficult approach and last minute found this tutorial - much easier and a heck of a lot lighter!

  • @HarajukuShoujo

Niceeeee!!! :3 i hope it works out well for you. i like to see how it turns out when it's completed!!!

  • Hi! I don't know if you can help me out but.... Do you know how to make Final Fantasy 13 Oerba Dia Vanille Binding Rod? I'm having trouble with it and no one is selling it. Thanks!

  • @Duckychann

have you heard of JiaJem? she's good with making weapons. i'll send you a website.

  • @MissInterpretCosplay I looked for help on the but i proably wouldn't be able to make it the way she does.

  • @Duckychann

when i first made my Fenrir keyblade, i started off with cardboard, and you can never go wrong with cardboard in my opinion. it wasn't the best, but ppl knew what it was suppose to be. lol maybe start off with that. but i'll keep looking around if i come across some good tutorials of her weapon.

  • @MissInterpretCosplay Okay, thanks a bunch!!!

  • @Duckychann

have you heard of JiaJem? she's good with making weapons. i'll send you a website.

  • For shine, do you know if Modge Podge will work? :O I know there are different types and such so... what do you think? ^^

  • @SingleFeathers

funny, cuz i'm actually going to try to experiment with Modge Podge on a new armor cosplay i'm working on. most cosplayers say it works for them but "As long as you seal the foam first even before putting primer on, you'll be good". :3

  • How strong is it after it's finished? Obviously, being made of foam, it's not gonna be able to stand have a boulder or something dropped on it. For example though, let's say I am wearing it at a convention and someone bumps into it or I stumble and it hits the floor or the wall. Would it survive those little road bumps or crumple against the pressure? If it would not be strong enough,is there a weigh to make it strong without adding too much more weight on it?

  • @EnforcerSwitz

yeah, sweetie! i forgot to add on here that there is a downside to the craft foam armor. Penwiper said that it can dent/wrinkle if you flex it too far, over stress it, bump into sharp objects and such. so i say be extra cautious if you use this techique. some say to try this stuff called Resin, but i think it depends if you *really* need it in case it does get damage while you're at a con or during travel. if you want i can PM you the link of this thread about Resin on foam.

  • Wow, I just watched a video of paint drying...

Thanks for teh tutorial! It was helpful.

  • thank you so much for taking the time to make this tutoriaL XD but i have a question, how do u attach the armor to ur body if there are no hoops to put ur arm through etc

  • @gabriellesilverwood

hm, interesting. well, they have like special adhesive for the skin. body glue. :D but i've never tried it, so i'm not sure how well it works. what character is this, if you don't mind asking? so their gauntlet isn't attached to anything at all? i've actually seen characters from my favorite game called Trapt that wear armor like it was pierced to their skin or something, and it wasn't attached to any clothes. haha!

  • @MissInterpretCosplay tks for replying :D yeah thats what i meant the characters from the new game blade and soul have like bits of armor all over their outfit...i was thinking if you were to cosplay that character, then u would have to superglue the armor to ur costume or something?

  • @gabriellesilverwood

oh, oh! u mean attached the armor on the costume material. i see! lol well, i guess you can like find some really heavy duty velcrow to attach it on. i think what Penwiper did on most of her cosplays was like take the fabric material she glued underneath the armor was handsew it on the costume... if that makes any sense. ^^; hehe!

  • can I use resin to make it harder, instead of water with glue?

  • @gervan1213

really good question! and i've found this thread here on cosplay(dot)com with the similar question. i'm gonna PM you the link.

  • Thank you so much for this tutorial, makes me feel like I can actually make my own sinx armor!

  • @GaaraHiwatari

not a problem. i hope this helps for you! :3

  • @KcKupid

you're welcome, love! lol at the time when i first made my first armor for my Yuna cosplay when i went through Penwiper's "tutti" on her site, i was like: "...god i hope i'm doing this right." but whether i did it her way or not, it seems like it worked out for me. xD i hope it works out for you also!!
