  • i befriended one of these little guys, when it flew to my kitchen window squeaking at me and looking at the fridge for like half an hour. i then realized this bird must know what the fridge is. he now follows me along every window along the outside of my house. He's cool and very smart, but has waken me up more than a few times at 4:30am. I have a feeling these birds are smarter than other bird varieties.

  • Ha ha.. it must want something from the fridge. Don't entertain him at 4.30 though, he might take it to be the best time to visit you!

  • You're right. They will slip into a routine very quickly.

  • you should see these birds in flight,, their incredible like jet fighters going over head. Every morning i wake up to hear them at my back door too, makes my day :)

  • It seems the Australian magpies are related to the butcher birds, it figures :)

  • that sounds very similar to the sounds that magpies make when they are on land

  • Thank you. We were captivated when we first heard the call. We only associated it with this bird much later.
