@woaibailong You make me laugh, but at the same time you make me sad (if you're serious). Just step back and think about what you said for a couple moments. Is that really who you are?
All these comments signify the problems in education. Even if someone is not astrophysicist or biologist, should understand that this is about science and not some kind of conspiracy! Wake up dreamers!
@woaibailong The coincidence? It's because their parents encouraged them to studying something useful, like science, instead of something like the bible that is only useful for giving you ammunition to attack other people's lifestyles.
I don't mean to belittle this conference or some of the wonderful things which were said, but pay attention to what was *really* said - especially by Carl Sagan. He initially made a case for detecting "little green men" from other stars by detecting radio signals. He then made a case that BEFORE that happens, the first logical step would be to send probes to the other planets - such as Mars and Venus - an extremely expensive program which had been cancelled at that time due to the bad economy
Dispite vastness of space, odds against life elsewhere is likely greater than that in favor when you also consider the likelihood of a body (planet, etc) in space the ideal distance from a sun (neither too hot or cold), materials (chemicals, etc) needed to create life present on that body, those materials randomly mixing into things (water, etc) needed to substain life, life actually starting, and more. Odds against intelligent life (aliens landing on Earth) is far greater.
But it seems to me with Sagan that his voice doesn't sound like this in the video, because, when I saw the Cosmos series, I remember he spoke with a different voice.
In this video, Carl's voice sounds to me a little to that of Daws Butler, the voice actor for Yogi Bear, Huckleberry Hound, Quick Draw McGraw, Snagglepuss and various other Hanna-Barbera characters.
If anyone has an interest in real scientific facts about the possibility, plausibility and probability of ET life, this video is a good place to start. Also, investigate "Drake equation."
Bottom line: statistically, ET life is virtual guaranteed.
Alien visitation of "little green men" or "alien moon bases" virtually impossible.
This symposium represents the "state of the art" during its day, and the messages are still relevant.
Start here. Learn the Drake equation. Then see "Cosmos" by Sagan.
thank you for posting this! it used to be on googlevideo but was removed a while ago, and it would have been a real shame if the video was no longer available.
Wasn't this on the X-Files?

In my opinion this conference had NOTHING to do with "finding intelligent life in other star systems."
It was all about whooping up interest in sending space probes to other planets in our solar system
so that they could study them astronomically.

@andresmpires I agree that this is a cool talk, but I wouldn't wish 20 yrs of my life away just to have personally witnessed it :/

Carl looks so handsome at this video, and don't tell me he doesn't look cute at 3:26, 6:35, 7:20, 12:49, 17:52 and 26:19.

It's definitely the same voice, it just sounds slightly different due to the acoustics of the room as well as the quality of the recording.

Amazing to hear Carl talk about unmanned space exploration in 1975.
