iv seen nearly every damn archery video made by professionals on youtube, and this is by far the most helpful one, i salute you lol if its possible, can you make a video on how to adjust draw weight (i think its called) as i have just bought a bow but dont have the money for lessons
My compound has 4 optical extrusions this applys to those as well i presume? Im new to archery and got a "Bear coumpound bow" (i have no idea what model) but this video helped me out alot. Thanks for the vid.
I bought a hoyt compound bow from a buddy at work. its my first bow since i was a teenager. how do I know if the draw of the bow mite be to short or long or just right. And i hope that my question don't become to annoying. cause i got alot of them
@574bender A good starting point is to use a straight stick. Hold both arms out in front of you at shoulder height then use the stick to measure from the indent just under your Adam's Apple to the tip of your middle fingers. (Easier with a mate who can mark the stick.) This is approx. the arrow length matched to your body, and the draw length on a compound is about 1.5 inches less as they're typically held with a slightly unlocked elbow. Try at a shop before you spend too much!
You need to show exactly how the pins are used in aiming. Its not enough to say adjust the pins. How does the pin look when you are aiming at your targed? Is the second pin for longer shots?
Hello im looking for a compound bow to start with. i am 14 years old, about 6 ft tall and 185 lbs. What would be a good compound bow with a price range of about $250-$500?
@MrTiefel Well honestly any bow would do, you need to go to an archery shop, or hunting store and shoot bows in that price range and find which one is most comfortable to you, then they can set you up. Just a tip since your just starting out look for a package deal, that way you have everything you need. Its much easier.
Hi I've just watched your video having picked up my first compund bow at the weekend and trying it out in my back garden (its big and was done safely). Thanks for some good tips on the sights - my bow is shooting to the left so now I can begin to tweak my sights to get it correctly aimed.

Great info. I have an old Browning bow with the same sights that you show on the video. Your diagram helps me sight this old bow in. Again thanks for the nice and detailed video. I feel like I can do this procedure. I just got into bowing and am enjoying the heck out of it. Don't know much but slowing am learning a bit at a time.
hey im wanting to get into bow hunting but im only 13 what would be a good bow for me and what draw weight is good for deer also what kind of brod heads
@WildLifeGuy308 Hey dude i can help! ure 13? ok so wen i was 13 i pulled back 50 lbs now i pull 75lbs. 50lbs should be good for you. I have a older browning bow it works awesome!! You might want a newer bow like a PSE youth bow would be perfect, depends on what you want to spend tho? Broadheads on the other hand are prefrable, i shoot muzzy phantoms. DONT GET RAGE TOO MANY PROBLEMS!
@tgk789123 it depends on what bow you want a compound or recurve, but if it was a compound i would say PSE stinger great bow and affordable and i think they come in packages which includes everything you need plus it is really easy to change the draw weight and draw length =)
Im confused about lefty and right ok i hold the bow with my left hand and draw with my right. So this means im a right hand? Also How can i tell if a bow is a righty or a lefty? Do i tell by where the arrow rest is?
@xPIVOTxMANx Your exactly right. its determined by the arrow rest. if the rest is on the RIGHT side it is a left handed bow, conversely, if its on the LEFT side its a right handed bow. Sometimes as well if you look at the grip you can notice that it will fit better into your palm as well.
I just bought this golden eagle compound bow. Not sure of the model number. I have determined the draw is set too high. How do I change the draw? Or is that something I will have to take and let someone do?

Thank you very much , I'm just starting out having only used recurve bows so your information is very valuable to me , I'm grateful for your help...it's very handy for a someone like me just starting out-thank you :-)
@Mw2oCod6 lol forgive me for being stereo typical of thinking your just another 5 year old playing cod... haha mb....I'm same age, :) lol sweet man too bad my mom is to scared if I do any sports that can hurt someone, like football archery, airsoft, marksmanship, etc... so she won't let me do any sh*tt, and that's wah tI blame for my currently increasing fking weight... lol can't do anything I really like to do, so I mean haha just gotta find something...but thats good to hear :)
@Mw2oCod6 even though u might be a little bit smaller than him, and prolly faster, he is most likely stronger than u, and if u run from him, he can probably shoot the back of your head with the bow, id watch out =P
@rngepkn33b not tightly. hold with a loose but secure grip. basically the minimal amount of grip needed to hold the how upright without having it " get away from you" aka drop it.
@PA1749 not a waste of time to someone with an IQ of more than 70. First and foremost I did mention in this video that you more your pins in the direction of the arrow, If you had watched the whole thing you would have realized this. And furthermore, if you cant figure it out with the simplified directions I gave then you better take your stuff to a professional to have it tuned in. Have a great day :)
I'm super new to this to and I saw that you are from Ohio. As am I, up around Columbus. I am trying to find instruction so I can attempt to go out and hunt this year. I need help with it all, basics, what bow to buy, what arrows, aiming haha I don't know if you charge for lessons or what but I'm willing to compensate for lessons if that's possible.
@possum66669 I shoot a Mathews DXT with QAD drop away rest and G5 XR 2pin sight and CARBON EXPRESS maxima hunter 250 arrows and a Scott little goose realease and a Rinehart 18-1 target and that is the only target to get it will last forever with no pass through this might break the bank I dont know your budget or what kind of truck you drive lol but I can tell you i got about 1300 or more in the bow and 300 in my arrows i have 24 of them 70 or 80 dollars for the realease around 100 for target
Good basic info...you bow hunt turkey too? I'm sure you're aware that bow for deer in KY opens (Sept) the same day as bow for turkey. Just guessing you're in KY based on your hoodie.
@WKUHilltopper haha well. Im actually from ohio. My hoodie is from the college I went to, Kent State. I would love to turkey hunt with a bow but unfortunatley I dont know a thing about turkey. I have hunted deer my whole life and thats what I know best
@rfiala1 question about targets i seen on the internet it said use an old carpet for a target backing im brand new to using a bow so whats your take on this i probably dont want to buy a target like yours yet if i can get away with an old redneck style target without damaging my arrows
@screwbushcomegetme I actually tried this one time and the way the carpet is designed it will rip your fletchings everytime the arrow passes through it and more importantly it doesnt do shit for stopping that arrow. your best bet would be to grab a few bales of hay and shoot into that. the arrows may still pass through over time so be cautious. hope this helps
You know to tell you the truth, you can use this same process for recurves (and longbows). The only thing is, you need to have good form that's consistent so you have tight groups. However, using a sight on trad equipment can be useful for taking the aiming factor out allowing the archer to concentrate on form
dont worry bout it man aluminums are still pretty good it has more kenitic energy also but now u can find 6 aluminums for like 45 bucks so dats as cheap as they get theres also more cheaper ones like 35 dallor packs but its just up 2 u and great vid ty forposting
WOW!! I am completely new to the sport of bows. I have a ton of knowledge of airguns but I am just now getting into bows. Thanks soooo much this video was great
very informative and well spoken , not like a lot of other video's you should check into doing documenteries or something..maybe a hunting show..let me know if ya need a sidekick lol for the free hunting trips! peace..
@1995odearime its not the pain, its accuracy and consistency.smoth thin metal release better than soft fleshy fingers. plus the draw strength can be considerably higher.
i never use a release .. and i get very tight groups always. i think it is just a matter of seeing what works for you, besides i don't think the Apache or Romans or any warriors that used bow and arrow used releases .. just my opinion
@Ninja7545 I have seen some bow fishing stuff on the Cabelas website as well as the wholesale sports website. Whether it is "good" equipment or not i cannot say. Never bow fished before. sounds fun though
hey rfiala1, do you think personally, having a whisker biscuit on your compound bow can affect the flight of the arrow as in accuracy, rather then a rip cord?
not really ....theres a vid of a guy shooting Wisker bisquit at 160 yrds ..... thats what i have for my bow..... i shoot 2 inch groups at 40 yrds .... if your rest is causing you accurcy problems .... then its eighter you ,your bow , or improper tunning....
great video. just a got a bow and my sight is a bit off. this helped me to understand which way to move the sights. i only have a one pin sight on it now. i think i will add one of the sights that have pins for other ranges.
what more could you want? are you a deaf mute? was i suppose to hold your hand and guide you through the process? I would assume any normal human being with the ability to reason could figure out exactly what I was talking about simply by trying it themselves. But I guess you cant please everyone....
sighting in a bow is fairly simple, all you have to do is shoot 3-4 times, making sure that all your shots are uniform and consistent. when you have a good grouping of shots, adjust your pins to shoot consistent, accurate shots. to sight the pins all you have to do is move them up if your group is high, right if it is right and so on. you will also need to make sure that your arrow rest is flat so your arrow leaves the bow level.
look man some people are meant to teach maybe its not ur thing but i did not say any thing mean i said i was not halped for the vid and thanked u any way but... im not going to be belittled by some dimwit hick fuck off ... i i hope u can get ur head outt of ur ass for long enough to actually hunt.. ps dont reply to this comment im done with ur bullshit
is the bow set at 75 or is its MAX draw 75? either way alot of people can not draw back a bow string at that poundage. it takes alot of practice. my recommendation would be to try pulling it back several times a day in order to work that muscle group out or in the mean time set the draw weight a little lower to something that is more within your realm of capabilities.
I think the bow is set at 75. I will have to ask my dad to tell the coworker in which we bought it from to lower the weight if its possible. Thanks for the answer. I have one more thing to ask. i can only pull the string with my hand i cannot do it with the trigger. Any reccomendations? I think the string may be too long for the trigger but just right for my hands. Thanks
i believe you are refering to the draw length and yes that makes a huge difference. there is nothing wrong with using your fingers in place of mechanical release as long as you practice enough and it works for you. reason being is when you use your fingers there is more room for error when releasing the string because it is not as uniformed as a mechanical release would be but I say what ever works for you is cool with me. good luck, hope this helps.
Are the low profile folding bows still available? These days the compound bows are SO damn big that they defeat the purposes of choosing a long bow over a crossbow. It's becoming harder & harder to find a simple long bow too. They're all huge with elaborate carvings. Whatever happened to instinctive aim? Just set, pull & release in one motion. The sights just complicate the matter. But I guess that all depends on the operator.
I can certainly see where your coming from. I enjoy the primitive aspect of hunting as well. Unfortunatly I dont own a long bow. As far as the folding bows, I'm not sure if I ever recall hearing about those. If they did exist at one point in time could you please explain, it sounds very interesting
They were more basic versions of the compound bow and you could break them down into a fold, which made them better for packing. But it seems nobody is familar with them so it's safe to say they haven't been around for a long time. I guess when it comes to bows they make whatever they make and users are forced to use whatever is in style.
in america you dont need to be a certain age. You are required to take a hunters education course in Ohio at which time you are eligable to purchase a license. Its a great system for families who want to introduce their children to the sport.
I notice you wear eyeglasses. I wear byfocals and it really effects my shooting. Do you have any recommendation on shooting with eyeglasses ie stance etc
Great question. I do were glasses and without them I might as well hang it up because I dont think I could walk without running into something. My glasses are not bifocal but I am sure the same strategies can apply for both. The main thing I focus on is ANTI FOG! nothing is worse then havig your glasses fog up in mid draw. Get anti-fog wipes from a local drugstore (dirt cheap). As far as altering my stance, I shoot the same way with either my glasses or contacts. Best of luck to you.
Very nice but a quick rule then is if your sight is off, move your pin in the direction they are off? i.e. too far right then I move the pin more to the right? Then if shooting too low move your pin down? thanks!
I dont quite understand that terribly formed sentence but I think you are saying that arrows should be cut to the proper length for the bow? maybe? if thats the case, every bow has a draw length that is sutible for different individuals. knowing this, arrows are cut according to draw length. so you are somewhat right.
the best way to get information and help about what bows to use and where to buy. join an arhcery club in your area there really the only way to get the best equip ment and noledge
im a beggining in fact the first time i shot a compound bow was today. im not really tall or big so i have a smaller compound bow then wat u may need 8473873 but the one i have is called Brave 2. I found it at dicks sporting goods for about 60 dollars. If u get used to it and like it theres a bow called Warrior 2 which is bigger and adustible. (im not a expert this is just my opinion)
These are difficult questions to answer because when shooting a bow there are a lot of user preferences. If you are looking to get a feel for the sport and you have the money to buy a nice hunting bow then by all means do it. I started with an old hand-me-down browning which was great for learning the basics. if you want a new bow talk to the sales clerks about the different features of the bow and then ask them to let you try it out. find which draw weights feel good to you.
keep in mind that the bows you pull down off the shelf have a draw weight set on them that you may not be use to, these can be adjusted to your needs.
It's a little late but schwanzman89 you can plainly see from the video he settles his knuckle behind his ear, which is exactly what I do and am pretty handy with my APA Viper having hunted Bear, Elk, Deer and Moose without having any of them even make it 50 yards after I shoot one.
i wont take a shot at a deer more than 30 yards with this bow. This model is not capable of making a decent shot at ranges over that. Its an older model Browning that was handed down to me. most models now are highly capable of taking a clean shot at 50 yards or so. personally i wouldnt take a shot from that distance for fear that I would just injure a deer and never find it.
hi, thanks for putting the video up. i shoot with a recurve but will be using a compound next and its good to know that the sights are so easy to use. i look forward to seeing more vids in the future because you're pretty good at getting the point over.
from 200 for a low end model to upwards of 600. then you must take into consideration any extras you wish to put on a bow since normaly they are not sold with sights or rests. I assume you can buy a completly outfitted bow however I have never purchased one. and its funny you ask about the arrow because I tested that one time and when shooting at a high arch it went a few hundred yards at 70 lbs draw weight. accurate shots are within 10-40 depending on what you are comfortable with.

Good basic info. You use a bow for turkey hunting too?
WKUHilltopper 1 year ago
Good basic info...you bow hunt turkey too? I'm sure you're aware that bow for deer in KY opens (Sept) the same day as bow for turkey. Just guessing you're in KY based on your hoodie.
WKUHilltopper 1 year ago
@WKUHilltopper haha well. Im actually from ohio. My hoodie is from the college I went to, Kent State. I would love to turkey hunt with a bow but unfortunatley I dont know a thing about turkey. I have hunted deer my whole life and thats what I know best

@rfiala1 question about targets i seen on the internet it said use an old carpet for a target backing im brand new to using a bow so whats your take on this i probably dont want to buy a target like yours yet if i can get away with an old redneck style target without damaging my arrows
screwbushcomegetme 1 year ago
@screwbushcomegetme I actually tried this one time and the way the carpet is designed it will rip your fletchings everytime the arrow passes through it and more importantly it doesnt do shit for stopping that arrow. your best bet would be to grab a few bales of hay and shoot into that. the arrows may still pass through over time so be cautious. hope this helps
rfiala1 1 year ago
@screwbushcomegetme Buy the Rinehart 18-1 target its the best I promise you will not be sorry

thanks man, excellent vid :)
rasstotaful 1 year ago
You know to tell you the truth, you can use this same process for recurves (and longbows). The only thing is, you need to have good form that's consistent so you have tight groups. However, using a sight on trad equipment can be useful for taking the aiming factor out allowing the archer to concentrate on form

Do you really need a release?
My brother and I shoot without one, and it doesn't really hurt your fingers. It seems unnecessary, but all the compound bow videos use them.
1995odearime 1 year ago
@1995odearime its not the pain, its accuracy and consistency.smoth thin metal release better than soft fleshy fingers. plus the draw strength can be considerably higher.
mandowarrior123 1 year ago
Oh! That makes a lot of sense, thanks
1995odearime 1 year ago
i never use a release .. and i get very tight groups always. i think it is just a matter of seeing what works for you, besides i don't think the Apache or Romans or any warriors that used bow and arrow used releases .. just my opinion

hey rfiala1, do you think personally, having a whisker biscuit on your compound bow can affect the flight of the arrow as in accuracy, rather then a rip cord?
SleepingWolf26 2 years ago
not really ....theres a vid of a guy shooting Wisker bisquit at 160 yrds ..... thats what i have for my bow..... i shoot 2 inch groups at 40 yrds .... if your rest is causing you accurcy problems .... then its eighter you ,your bow , or improper tunning....

what more could you want? are you a deaf mute? was i suppose to hold your hand and guide you through the process? I would assume any normal human being with the ability to reason could figure out exactly what I was talking about simply by trying it themselves. But I guess you cant please everyone....

whats with the harsh words man u trying to be a prick?
smokyMcDankmn 2 years ago
if you had nothing nice to say you should have said nothing at all. didnt you learn that growng up.
rfiala1 2 years ago
sighting in a bow is fairly simple, all you have to do is shoot 3-4 times, making sure that all your shots are uniform and consistent. when you have a good grouping of shots, adjust your pins to shoot consistent, accurate shots. to sight the pins all you have to do is move them up if your group is high, right if it is right and so on. you will also need to make sure that your arrow rest is flat so your arrow leaves the bow level.

I can barely pull back my bow im 14 and its draw is like 75 pounds i need help but i just got it and its my first one
IamTheRedneck 2 years ago
is the bow set at 75 or is its MAX draw 75? either way alot of people can not draw back a bow string at that poundage. it takes alot of practice. my recommendation would be to try pulling it back several times a day in order to work that muscle group out or in the mean time set the draw weight a little lower to something that is more within your realm of capabilities.
rfiala1 2 years ago
I think the bow is set at 75. I will have to ask my dad to tell the coworker in which we bought it from to lower the weight if its possible. Thanks for the answer. I have one more thing to ask. i can only pull the string with my hand i cannot do it with the trigger. Any reccomendations? I think the string may be too long for the trigger but just right for my hands. Thanks
IamTheRedneck 2 years ago
i believe you are refering to the draw length and yes that makes a huge difference. there is nothing wrong with using your fingers in place of mechanical release as long as you practice enough and it works for you. reason being is when you use your fingers there is more room for error when releasing the string because it is not as uniformed as a mechanical release would be but I say what ever works for you is cool with me. good luck, hope this helps.
rfiala1 2 years ago
Ya i think the draw length may be like an inch or two longer than it should be for me. Thanks for replying so quickly
IamTheRedneck 2 years ago
no problem bro. best of luck to you
rfiala1 2 years ago
Are the low profile folding bows still available? These days the compound bows are SO damn big that they defeat the purposes of choosing a long bow over a crossbow. It's becoming harder & harder to find a simple long bow too. They're all huge with elaborate carvings. Whatever happened to instinctive aim? Just set, pull & release in one motion. The sights just complicate the matter. But I guess that all depends on the operator.
PopcornCoolie 2 years ago
I can certainly see where your coming from. I enjoy the primitive aspect of hunting as well. Unfortunatly I dont own a long bow. As far as the folding bows, I'm not sure if I ever recall hearing about those. If they did exist at one point in time could you please explain, it sounds very interesting
rfiala1 2 years ago
They were more basic versions of the compound bow and you could break them down into a fold, which made them better for packing. But it seems nobody is familar with them so it's safe to say they haven't been around for a long time. I guess when it comes to bows they make whatever they make and users are forced to use whatever is in style.

now how old do you have to be for going hunting in america or there were you are from texas right
hanzithaking 2 years ago
in america you dont need to be a certain age. You are required to take a hunters education course in Ohio at which time you are eligable to purchase a license. Its a great system for families who want to introduce their children to the sport.
rfiala1 2 years ago
ok nice here in denmark you have to be 16 to get a license and 18 to drive a car NOT NICE
hanzithaking 2 years ago
I notice you wear eyeglasses. I wear byfocals and it really effects my shooting. Do you have any recommendation on shooting with eyeglasses ie stance etc
MrMiketheriverking 2 years ago
Great question. I do were glasses and without them I might as well hang it up because I dont think I could walk without running into something. My glasses are not bifocal but I am sure the same strategies can apply for both. The main thing I focus on is ANTI FOG! nothing is worse then havig your glasses fog up in mid draw. Get anti-fog wipes from a local drugstore (dirt cheap). As far as altering my stance, I shoot the same way with either my glasses or contacts. Best of luck to you.
rfiala1 2 years ago
Very nice but a quick rule then is if your sight is off, move your pin in the direction they are off? i.e. too far right then I move the pin more to the right? Then if shooting too low move your pin down? thanks!
3rdMarineDiv 2 years ago
you say not cut to your manufacturese blah blah blha. the arrows should be made for the bow or else ull have like to long or short arrows
versionintegrale 2 years ago
I dont quite understand that terribly formed sentence but I think you are saying that arrows should be cut to the proper length for the bow? maybe? if thats the case, every bow has a draw length that is sutible for different individuals. knowing this, arrows are cut according to draw length. so you are somewhat right.
rfiala1 2 years ago
lul yes i was having trouble saying it

im a beggining in fact the first time i shot a compound bow was today. im not really tall or big so i have a smaller compound bow then wat u may need 8473873 but the one i have is called Brave 2. I found it at dicks sporting goods for about 60 dollars. If u get used to it and like it theres a bow called Warrior 2 which is bigger and adustible. (im not a expert this is just my opinion)
Ariels839 2 years ago
whats a good beginners bow?
8473873 2 years ago
These are difficult questions to answer because when shooting a bow there are a lot of user preferences. If you are looking to get a feel for the sport and you have the money to buy a nice hunting bow then by all means do it. I started with an old hand-me-down browning which was great for learning the basics. if you want a new bow talk to the sales clerks about the different features of the bow and then ask them to let you try it out. find which draw weights feel good to you.
rfiala1 2 years ago
keep in mind that the bows you pull down off the shelf have a draw weight set on them that you may not be use to, these can be adjusted to your needs.

It's a little late but schwanzman89 you can plainly see from the video he settles his knuckle behind his ear, which is exactly what I do and am pretty handy with my APA Viper having hunted Bear, Elk, Deer and Moose without having any of them even make it 50 yards after I shoot one.
Peace.

whats the furthest you have shot
TheUsMarineSquirell 2 years ago
i wont take a shot at a deer more than 30 yards with this bow. This model is not capable of making a decent shot at ranges over that. Its an older model Browning that was handed down to me. most models now are highly capable of taking a clean shot at 50 yards or so. personally i wouldnt take a shot from that distance for fear that I would just injure a deer and never find it.
rfiala1 2 years ago
hi, thanks for putting the video up. i shoot with a recurve but will be using a compound next and its good to know that the sights are so easy to use. i look forward to seeing more vids in the future because you're pretty good at getting the point over.
thanks again buddy.

The most expensive arrows here in Australia are easton aluminium carbon arrows 1 of them costs $600 dollors
berowra 2 years ago
what could you possibly shoot that would be worth spending 600 dollars O.o
Tony007corp 2 years ago
How much do one of these go for? And how far can an arrow go? I'm sure it depends on the bow, but a mere estimation is all I ask for.
DevotedActor 2 years ago
from 200 for a low end model to upwards of 600. then you must take into consideration any extras you wish to put on a bow since normaly they are not sold with sights or rests. I assume you can buy a completly outfitted bow however I have never purchased one. and its funny you ask about the arrow because I tested that one time and when shooting at a high arch it went a few hundred yards at 70 lbs draw weight. accurate shots are within 10-40 depending on what you are comfortable with.

I appreciate the information you have provided me with.
