Abandoning one's ego is only the first step to enlightenment. A man who abandons his ego and sits in stillness may well be dead. He has gone to great lengths to accomplish nothing, much like the man who's ego takes him to the summit. Once the ego is destroyed, one must find mountains and ascend them. Collecting a new ego through the observational experience of life is the only way to become one with it, to know it. Growth in awareness of life is enlightenment... or something :) my two cents.
