    DEBIJO

  • The lead gutarist pictured at the end of the vid was in the band for "Saturday Night Live" G.E. Smith.

  • Grand theft auto: stay in your car to listen to the song- continue your mission when it finishes.

  • boy seeing video and others from the 80's do take me back to a great era

  • SERIOUSLY?! Hall & Oates were mediocre musicians at best and they DARE to drag one of the greatest and under-appreciated musicians of all time into there crappy pop remixes??

    I am disgusted.

  • @thelandon2 Covers are done out of respect and honor. Mike made some nice cash on the song and vocal prowess is an important part of musicianship.

  • Mike Oldfield did the original version of this...and in my opinion...is 100 times better than this version.

  • Was everyone just getting seduced in the 80's or something

  • FLASH FM 1984 WAS ALL ABOUT SLUTS AND YOUTH. FLASH FM 1986 LOOKING TO NOT SEE PAST THE AGE OF 30 AND STILL DO DRUGS UNTIL 2001 AND LOOK HOT. AND TONI PARTIED ALOT! wish i had a hot tub time machine!

  • Remember when MTV played music videos?

  • Everytime I see those cartoon characters in the corners shooting things across the screen, it always reminds me of that old arcade classic Robotron.

  • Great song. This is the hard to find extended Rock Mix too.

  • 58 idiots!!

  • awesome. OK haircuts and clothes are old fashioned but music is soooooooooo much greater than all the sh... we listen to nowadays. At least this is loads of melody,

what today's music is absolutely unable to create....

  • This is REAL MUSIC well kind of. it's still better than this stuff nowadays.

  • This song reminds me of the AeroMexico flight that crshed in Cerrritos back in 1986 or 1985 was it, I don't know why?

  • Thumbs up if you heard this on GTA Vice City Stories!

  • @TheFlabXD ...But how good is that the younger gen get to hear it because of GTA Vice Stories :)

  • @wifey4lifey072007 IKR now it's all singers whose voices are modified to sound like robots, which only means their voices arent good enough... :\

  • i didnt know bababooey played guitar.lol

  • @skyroe2 , that is an awesome comment

  • Wow, talk about nostalgia!!!! I don't know why this wasn't a bigger hit, I love it

  • @MrChicago891 - To be clear, it was #81 on the U.S. R&B chart, #6 on the U.S. Pop Chart, #15 on the U.K. Pop Chart.

  • Hall & Oates did an excellent job at incorporating the evolving trends in R&B/funk

into their music. This tune is one of the best examples of that fact.

It got up to #81 on the U.S. R&B chart in 1983 while "One On One"

got up to # 8 on that chart and "Say It Isn't So" got up to #45.

  • @lenelljeter2 This song isn't their music. It's a Mike Oldfield cover.

  • @Tolstoy111 Anytime a band or soloist covers a song successfully, it is that band's or soloist's music. It was the Hall & Oates interpretation of Family Man in the Top 10 U.S. Pop Chart & in the R&B chart, not Oldfield's version. But, Sir or Ma'am, if your argument is Oldfield ought to get credit for composing lyrics &/or the other musical elements which Hall & Oates generally copied & interpreted in their own way, that is a reasonable argument. Oldfield's editions on YouTube sound pretty good.

  • In 1981"I Can't Go For That" reached #1 on the U.S. R&B Chart. In 1982, "Your Imagination" got up #45 and

and Maneater got up #78 on the U.S. R&B Chart. In 1984, "Method of Modern Love" reached #21 on the U.S. R&B chart

& "Out of Touch" reached #24 on that chart.

  • You may find that it is worth the time to take a look and listen at the song lists that

have been posted to Itunes Ping that meld together rhythmically & stylistically

    compatible early/mid 80s R&B/funk songs and early/mid 80s synth pop/new wave

songs. There is a lot of music that was either forgotten or not ever learned

of but was very enjoyable or would be very enjoyable if it was rediscovered or discovered for the first time by people that enjoy this type of music. People like you?

  • I have researched these music categories for the past 9 years

and I have rediscovered tunes I had forgotten about or I discovered

new tunes that totally deserved the time it took to discover them.

In Itunes Store or Itunes Ping if you use the search terms "electrofunk" (as a single word) or "80s funk" the search result shall produce several lists that have "electrofunk" or "80s funk" in the playlist name in the "Playlist" category at the low left corner of the search result.

  • Click on the "more" link and once you have opened the next page that has all of the Playlist search results for "electrofunk" or "80 funk",

you'll quickly find a bunch of lists that use the title "Ebony & Ivory Electrofunk".

  • These lists have songs that you may have heard before and enjoyed but forgotten

or songs that you may enjoy now but you have not heard before. These lists include album cuts that were not released as singles and songs from lesser known artists such as Laid Back, Mtume, Boys Don't Cry, and Dynasty.

  • todays youth couldnt relate to this music,,,because these guys were good,,,no computers or voice boxes,,,they performed day in and day out,,,,no disney or video wanna be's,,HALL AND OATES are legends

  • Super song - esp for those of us who have been there (& may or not have resisted!) Now I work in a university where the temptation (well at least visually) is so much greater!!

  • I used to dance to that song all the time back in my late teens.I met lots of girls that way!!

  • Oates and Smith thrash on this JAM!

  • Love these songs, this should be played a lot more often then some of the modern day stuff which will never sound as good as these good old songs.

  • Incredibly, although Sydney Radio sometimes plays Hall and Oates, they don't play this gem! -Daz in Oz.

  • thank u love it

  • Im 16 and i love this song. This music will be timeless.

  • @Headcrackin456 You`ve got great musical taste! It`s funny you know, I went into a KFC the other day and this 21 year old chap wasn`t listening to the latest pop channel on the TV there, he was listening to stuff like Alice Cooper and some 70s n 80s Aussie Music on his ipod. It made an old fart like me of 41 years feel better! -Daz in Oz.

  • Its found on H20 as an extra track.

  • I was in fifth grade when this song came out. Back when music was so much better than the crap on the radio today... John was so sexy!!

    Dawn

  • Memories... much better times.

  • sex to,sue

  • @Bettina Progress most of the time is worse than the original. That goes for everything not just music.

  • H&O's videos were comically awful, but I love their songs.

  • @LAWoman323213

agreed. I LOVE this song but this has to be one of the worst the older MTV videos....at least the ones I've seen.

  • Not another song about prostitutes...

Oh wait, this isn't rap. It actually spreads the message of not giving in, and it's not gospel music. We're not going to find anything like this today.

  • The replay button for this song is more addicting than crack.

    Quality music <3

  • After hearing the song on Mike Oldfield's Five Miles Out album, and discovering that Hall&Oates did a cover of it, I had to check it out, and now that I hear this version I think I like it better. The lyrics have been altered to add more conflict and less resolve into the man's character.

  • Is it just me, or were we all a lot smarter and more clever back then? We could enjoy a spoof of Fifties America with the "family man" and the nuclear family, instead of Lady Gag-me showing her cooch all over the place? When there was real music on the charts, not just chanting to a droning beat filled with samples of music written by people who were smart enough to, you know, actually write music?

  • gtavcs has the damn best 80s song

  • Amazing video. I always loved the Video Game Graphics in the video. Its like Hal and Oats the Video game. lol,

  • This song is so amazing!! Always loved this one! Hall and Oates were a true Icon of the 80s!! Takes me back to better days! This song takes me back to days of true happiness and innocence. I miss those days. My heart just aches for those days. What a time that was! Never to be forgotten! There was a magic in the air back then that you just cant feel today and that is a real shame. This song is magic in itself!! Missing those days but hold the memories in my heart forever!! ☺♥

  • @juniebird80s --No kidding Junie-- take me back!!

  • @juniebird80s agree with the sentiment, but pretty gay comments ,im just hoping your a chick!

  • tony for you,sue

  • I love this song and DH&JO are brilliant. But I can see why Daryl H. said he cringes about these cheesy 80s videos. Come on, what was this video producer thinking? How about something with a bit of art, creativity and acting ability, e.g. modern day Snow Patrol videos? Well what can we do, it was the 80s.

  • this is a cover. the original was done by Mike Oldfield (a/k/a Mr. Tubular Bells from "The Exorcist").

  • great coked up GE SMITH in this film

  • i love this song.

  • Cute video.

  • another great

  • Love GE Smith!

  • Pro 5:1 My son, attend unto my wisdom, [and] bow thine ear to my understanding:

Pro 5:2 That thou mayest regard discretion, and [that] thy lips may keep knowledge.

Pro 5:3 For the lips of a strange woman drop [as] an honeycomb, and her mouth [is] smoother than oil:

  • what family man rocks a stash like that?

  • Leave John alone, he's a family man, and his 'tache is much worse than his bite!

  • They are touring this year 2010/11. Does anybody know if this one is on their set list?

  • Now this is how a family should be perfect and happy. I will tell you guys this I would rather have a wife like this that cares and is home preparing dinner for her beloved family than a wife that comes home after everyone is asleep and has been who knows were!!!

    Great video by the way!
