My Futhark is a little rusty and the picture is pretty bad, but it does look like Futhark to me.

And while on the subject, Might and magic IX contain some Futhark that you can actually read.

How does one open up a tree? With that +9 axe of course!

When I checked the tree out in my game, I found it filled with junk. Then I loaded previous saves and on month October I found Volcanoe Axe, which is different from the one you found and better. Do you have any idea whether the tree respawns artifacts or is it one time only?

It respawns artifacts everytime(same as the rock in Ironsand or the back of the ogrefort in Alvar)
