  • Joe Messina tells a good story about when he played on tracks like this. The arrangers would look to Jamerson to kick a groove off, then the Funk Brothers could come in. Straight away the producers would say to Joe, 'Hey play what he's playing' and off he went. On a lot of the Isleys tracks he followed Jamersons bass patterns as well. Even a brilliant virtuoso like Joe said it could be quite a challenge sometimes! Thanks for a great post!
