Wow I have no interest in grout whatsoever, I just wanted to know what exactly it is (I'm not a native speaker) and here I am watching you circular motioning the grout into smoothness.. It's amazing that you can draw someone into watching your video with just the enthousiasm in your voice..
I did my bathroom floor about 10 years ago. My first time and it was a pretty major job. I had to replace a section of the floor due to dry rot and then re-tile the floor. Couldn't find tiles to match the 1950 circa existing but that wasn't the biggest mistake. I was completely unaware of how hard grout gets from how soft it was when I floated it. It was a hack job when completed. I also did the walls and tub shower. If you look closely you can tell the sequence they were completed. They improve
Your 4 videos on grouting are fantastic! I just needed to touch up some grout and I was really nervous about it. I watched your videos and was able to do the job. My repairs look fantastic. Thank you!
Fantastic video! We're getting ready to grout a mosaic tile backsplash (1"x1") - would we follow the same instructions for cleaning/smoothing the grout lines as you have here on the larger tiles? Thanks for doing these videos - so many of us would be lost without them!
Awesome video, I have a brick repair business in Dallas Texas and have some experience with grout but tile is different. I always had problems with the grout joints. I have another home project that I think will look much better after viewing this video.
I am helping my bro in law out with a new commercial kitchen, with all of the heavy equipment, how long shoul dI wait to move things on to ungrouted floor?
Having never done any tiling before I was a bit apprehensive on the grouting - didn't want to make a mess and or have it look all sandy/crappy. Found this video and followed it, my tiles look great! Thanks!
2 things. one: timharners comment is dead accurate LOL !! Two: I just happened to check this out before I started my entire kitchen job. I'm at least 200% more comfortable now. thank you and keep up the great info.
ehh i wish i saw this way before but i already did it lookkked good BUT I HAVE A QUESTION.. okaay my tile is dried and grouted and its been less than two months and now the grout is mismacthed its all ugly and dark and dirty.. so i was thinking can i re grout without takeing out the grout but im not gunna put alot.. and GREAT VID
Im grouting for the first time on slate that looks very similar to what you have there. A tremendous thank you from a fearless DIY-fer as you saved me plenty of frustration and work with the use of your videos.
does anyone know if cedar oil can be used on other wood species like Oak or Teak? Thanks. I know this has nothing to do with drywall, but I can't fiind this information on the net.
I just finished my first tile job at home and, thanks to your videos, my floor looks fantastic! It was a small bathroom and I used octagon mosaic tiles, but it looks like I hired a pro. Thanks for the great instructions.
The one big mistake you made is... you never clean grout off tiles 'running with the joint'... you must clean by going diagonal to the joints, this helps the sponge float over the joints and not... 'dig in'.... Right or wrong Tim......!
@AsktheBuilder Tim you are a great teacher. Being proffesional tiler with experiance in all kind of complex tile setting and vriting a blog about my profession, I am astonished watching your videos. When I have to explain proper precedures to an amater with no or small experience on the Slovenian building forum, I just link to your video. Regards from Slovenia, Joze - Terra Cotta.
@pomozek Many thanks. The last two videos in this series will not be free after this week. I'm tired of not making any money from YouTube. Thanks for the links and I hope your visitors will be willing to pay a very small fee to watch the other two videos.
You are so easy to learn from,I wish every one taught like you! What a wonderful resource you are! I am going to google you for every project I do! I hope you have video on redoing a basement that is my next project!
Man! I wish I saw your vids when I first started out doing tile. The guy I learned under was awesome at tile, but never showed the reasoning behind the technique. Learned that I was doing it right when I stopped getting yelled at. When I watched you, everything instantly made sense. I could have been pro from the start.
I live in Melbourne Australia. Your 6 minute lesson was worth every second. I learned more from this than I learned in school. Well, sort of. Thanks you so much. This video showed me things that would've made my grouting job a frustrating nightmare. A MUST WATCH FOLKS !!!
@AsktheBuilder I'm a mechanic by trade and i've never done grout or tiling before. So when I found your video, it made it really simple to understand and gave enough confidence to attempt.
Your great drywall tips helped me last year and actually made applying the mud and tape almost fun! Now I am going to use your tips to grout one of the floors in my house. Thank you so much!
Though most of your videos are about floors,..I put what I learned from you into practice on my bathroom walls ,..used Hardibacker Board ,.your videos about mixing Thinset & Grout,.and Grouting Are the best !!

I must admit there are quite a few that have man crushes on me. :-> Everyone has different skills. I drool over those that can charge down a double black-diamond chute, or those that can hit a golf ball 250 yards straight as an arrow. God just happened to grant me building skills.
the video helped alot, sure enough my husband who is a 10+ brickpaver almost made the biggest mistake by not smooting put the creased he thought that would repair on its own overnight. again thanks so much Mr. askthebuilder.

@oneswtwld Easy. FOREVER ! ! ! You don't ever move anything onto an UNGROUTED floor. Grout it and wait 72 hours to move in equipment.
