heres what i think..... When a Japan released a new Epic/ cool/ bad ass game...which is always... Our initial thought is (Is it out in English yet...? ) so.. some of the games from U.S being disregarded are not putting much effort to even translate/localized/dubbed/subbed a game thats even not from their own country and wouldn't gain profit...
I bought Arc Rise Fantasia the moment it was released.. I never touched it since then! (Just supporting the RPG industry + no time to play currently).
But we need classic fighting systems, classic methods, classic game structures.
They really don't need to "invent" something new for EVERY RELEASE!!!
And as for my "same same", we need new type of stories, something catchy!! But not that flamboyant!! Something new, yet classic..
Whoa, this video STRONGLY reminds me of Tales of Vesperia: A cool guy and a knight, a mystic girl with healing-artes, huge dragons, strong twins (1:09), the battle-screen and to some point also the graphics.
@MajorMajora52113 thought the 3D map works well (assuming you mean world map exploration), bosses are hard yes, requires skill and leveling up(RPG), voice acting IS horrible...great story and gameplay make up for it though
Seriously!! how fking hard is it to LEAVE the Jap voice acting in the damn game together with eng voice??? what if some of us plans on having a nice exp when playing the game, instead of hearing the AWFULL english voices that sounds like zombies talking :S How is it that most jap games always get the most USELESS voice actors in America?? the main characters eng voice... it sux!!!

@metionly I'm totally with you on this one. That was the main reason I completely discarded Sakura Wars last year. It seems so illogical, the example for all companies should be Samurai Warriors 3, which allows you to choose between English and Japanese voices, but strangely enough, English dubbing is shockingly awesome in that one (in fact, I prefer it over Jap!)
@metionly What youre saying is cabsolute correct... but thats just a tip of iceberg..... the even worst problem is the LOCALIZATION of these Games.. its like we (Us RPGers) have to be gratefull they put a lame english voice there.. otherwise .. they will not even try to translated it... I hate spoilers and I tell you one :S, you can get orb talking to some village people, also when you get new characters the have orbs in lvl 3 :D also getting gems as enemy drops or in chests, the only way to get more gems is to combine five shards of the same gem. Shards can be found in certain spots, given by particualr people, stolen from certain enemies, but the most reliable way is as a drop for breaking raystones.
First of all, the voice acting isn't anywhere near as bad as other games I've played. They're actually good. The text/cutscenes (like the Tales series) is often times funny as hell. The battle system (finally a turned based rpg) is awesome, it's classic and they all act at once when you get done selecting commands, plus and option to set up tactics and just select that tactic. Last but most importantly, the OST is outstanding. Anytime you can get Yasunori Mitsuda on to an OST... is a big deal.
Everyone, I have a message: THE VOICES ARE NOT EVERYTHING IN A GAME! It's true that the voices are a bit better in the original version but the game is really amazing and is really worth it ^^
The english VA in this game sucks, that's true and enough people have criticized it for that. However, that's probably the only bad thing about this game. The gameplay is great, its refreshing and nostalgic. The battle system isn't ground breaking, but its enjoyable. The plot is interesting and character discussions can actually have you laughing when the writers intended you to. All in all, its a great game. Just turn off the voices if you don't like them.
Lots of people heard the english dub and immediately trashed the game. It's unfortunate but it seems that voices are being used to judge games like this one. Personally, I think they are amateur but it doesn't bother me really. This is a great game. If you really love RPG's, stuff like the voice acting shouldn't really bother you. That's just my opinion.
Honestly, I think that the voices they picked were very suiting, but the ACTING itself was a little dry.
Most of all english VA suck but not all of them suck is hard but there are some good VA out there, anyways I prefer the game in japanese with english subs is way better that way

@edukee actually you are close. They are PsP graphics. The ppl that made this only made PsP and Ds games before this game. This is their first console game and for some reason they felt they needed to keep the graphics and gameplay similar to PsP gameplay and graphics (why? only god knows) or they just didnt adapt well to the portable to console leap.

@metroidprimeribs I agree, Monster Hunter Tri is AMAZING and has convinced me to save up for a PSP. But I'm still looking forward to this more traditional, relaxed JRPG. It's hard to compare them.
hnnnngg..little over a month a way until this game comes out after the mega huge upsetting delay I will soon have this game in my hands after having wanted it for like over a year now....its kinda disappointing that the English voice overs are HORRENDOUS.....i hope there is an option to mute the voice audio in the game.

The battle system looks fun, like Tales' with a mix of Eternal Sonata or something. But the character designs...are really dull. I'll have wait a while after this comes out till I decide to buy it. Looks promising at least.
It's been a while since I've seen a good old fashioned fantasy-style RPG that wasn't...you know, Final Fantasy, Tales, or something that's been long pre-established.
The fourth game that i really want to have for the wii i only hope this one is faster than tales of Symphonia Dawn of a new world what her took more that 2 years.
The Director/Designer of this game worked in the past for the first Tales games when Wolf Team still existed after that; he worked as the Level Designer of Tales of Symphonia. I can expect a lot of people saying "Hey! It reminds me of Tales of... or the Tales Series".
so far, tales of symphonia seems pretty hard to me, i cant understand that pact making thing with the monsters, I die really quickly right after tenacles explains everything to me, i have no recovery skills, i just get bored and dont play it. This game looks awesome though.
It is. It came out in North America the same day it did in Japan I bought ti ^_^ IT's the BEST GAME EVER!!!! me and bros were fans of Final Fantasy and like Eternal Sanata and Folklore and games like that so we are all playing it together. With means that the Turn-Based RPGs have still not died yet! And that's good ^^! Random Battles are very rare in the newest games (except those FF Remakes and the Sequel)... I have also hear that Platformer games will cease to exist... But I don't believe that... We still have Mario, MegaMan and Sonic.

ya good graphics but there are other rpgs or anime adventure games with as good or better graphics look at these: final fantasy crystal bearers, tales of symphonia 2, tales of grace, valhalla knights elder saga, rune factory frontier, and a personal favorite is monster hunter 3. wii has good rpgs. my favorites though are more of the simpler with less great graphics like fire emblem and final fantasy crystal chronicles cuz they remind me of pass rpg expiriences.
Wait a minute, when did they release a new FF on the wii?!!! Did i never hear about it? Was tales of graces released already too. Symphonia 2's graphics weren't as good, and it was a huge disappointment to me. (not cause of graphics but cause of how few things were as good as the 1st one) I agree with you completely that graphics ain't everything. I love some of the games like FE too. I'm really happy the Wii got some good RPG's!!
Wikipedia doesn't say that is has been released over here. It just says that it will be released in 2009. There is still a whole lot of time left in 2009.
Wow, very nice game from the looks of it. Already a fan of the creators and the characters look intriguing, not to mentaion yet another rpg game for wii.
Its supposed to be turn based. But all the characters run around fancily and attack after you give them orders, so it makes it look like a tales game or something. =P
I'd say it's a superior game to Luminous Arc 1, especially story-wise. I thought some of the charachters weren't great, but hey, at least there were personalities as opposed to the other highly-anticipated SRPG (FFTA2).
Luminous Arc had some pretty cool chars. I love Heath, Kai, Saki, Lucia. Mavi has to be my favorite Witch, Vanessa's pretty bad ass too. And Leon! Haha, my absolute fav...both as a character and a fighter.
LA2s whole music CD bonus is intriging also...I just may pick it up. Although, I'm waiting for Knights in the Nightmare. That game's really interesting me right now.

the only bad things about this game are the 3d map, the boss difficulty (a bit too hard) and the voice acting in english.

First of all, the voice acting isn't anywhere near as bad as other games I've played. They're actually good. The text/cutscenes (like the Tales series) is often times funny as hell. The battle system looks fun, like Tales' with a mix of Eternal Sonata or something. But the character designs...are really dull. I'll have wait a while after this comes out till I decide to buy it. Looks promising at least.

I dont understand this...this sometimes looks like "Tales of" gameplay but then it looks turn based...
its a shame...id like to see a "Tales of" game characters with normal size when you play...instead of chibi...

Characters look weird.
Maybe I'm getting too used to the anime style of Tales of characters, after all, those are the only rpg I've been playing lately.
I'm still getting this one, looks so good!

If you've ever watched Eureka 7 you'll get used to the character designs really quickly. They're almost exactly like that.

The Director/Designer of this game worked in the past for the first Tales games when Wolf Team still existed after that; he worked as the Level Designer of Tales of Symphonia. I can expect a lot of people saying "Hey! It reminds me of Tales of... or the Tales Series".

so far, tales of symphonia seems pretty hard to me, i cant understand that pact making thing with the monsters, I die really quickly right after tenacles explains everything to me, i have no recovery skills, i just get bored and dont play it. This game looks awesome though.

It is. It came out in North America the same day it did in Japan I bought ti ^_^ IT's the BEST GAME EVER!!!! me and bros were fans of Final Fantasy and like Eternal Sanata and Folklore and games like that so we are all playing it together. And we're like No no!!! your gonna die and then we all start screaming when we get to a monster or dragon! Were like "AHH IT'S GONNA GET US EHHHH!!!" lol me and bros haven't played like that in years XD wooo awsomeness.

With means that the Turn-Based RPGs have still not died yet! And that's good ^^! Random Battles are very rare in the newest games (except those FF Remakes and the Sequel)... I have also hear that Platformer games will cease to exist... But I don't believe that... We still have Mario, MegaMan and Sonic.

Only the story written by Takumi Miyajima is interesting. (Miyajima is the writer of "Tales of symphonia1"and "Tales of the abyss")

ya good graphics but there are other rpgs or anime adventure games with as good or better graphics look at these: final fantasy crystal bearers, tales of symphonia 2, tales of grace, valhalla knights elder saga, rune factory frontier, and a personal favorite is monster hunter 3. wii has good rpgs. my favorites though are more of the simpler with less great graphics like fire emblem and final fantasy crystal chronicles cuz they remind me of pass rpg expiriences.

Wait a minute, when did they release a new FF on the wii?!!! Did i never hear about it? Was tales of graces released already too. Symphonia 2's graphics weren't as good, and it was a huge disappointment to me. (not cause of graphics but cause of how few things were as good as the 1st one) I agree with you completely that graphics ain't everything. I love some of the games like FE too. I'm really happy the Wii got some good RPG's!!

Its supposed to be turn based. But all the characters run around fancily and attack after you give them orders, so it makes it look like a tales game or something. =P

I'd say it's a superior game to Luminous Arc 1, especially story-wise. I thought some of the charachters weren't great, but hey, at least there were personalities as opposed to the other highly-anticipated SRPG (FFTA2).

Luminous Arc had some pretty cool chars. I love Heath, Kai, Saki, Lucia. Mavi has to be my favorite Witch, Vanessa's pretty bad ass too. And Leon! Haha, my absolute fav...both as a character and a fighter.
LA2s whole music CD bonus is intriging also...I just may pick it up. Although, I'm waiting for Knights in the Nightmare. That game's really interesting me right now.
