love simon's piano and bass playing-dude doesn't ever get the credit but listen again folks..robin's guitar is signature for sure and liz, words cannot express. these three wrote some of the most emotionally stunning pop music of the last 30 years.
Robin should have patented this guitar style - he's made so much music from it that it's reached a juncture where no others can follow, the greatest :)
sorry but to me, nothing to do with enya!!!! the big difference is that in the CT you have an emotion, in ENya you only have...? anyhting at all?!!! just new age. nothing similar, or just in appearance, on the surface - still...!!
wow liz you are amazing ,the cocteau twins best bend ever ,never sold out ,just about the music ,and they kept bringing out amazing albums ,and the best b sides i have ever heard what a band they were we will never see the likes of them again .
I've voyaged far and wide, musically and psychically, but for me, the Cocteaus are the 'home of my heart.' So beautifully crafted, and so emotionally effective. Respectful and dignified in the way they've created their own genre which allows us our own interpretation.
The shimmering, durable beauty of this music is informed by yet triumphs over the deep turbulence under which it was made, so it also stands as an encourging artistic testament. Thank you so much, Robin, Liz, and Simon!!!
whenever i comment on a cocteau twins vid i feel so lame and pretentious. its almost as if i just got of the bus with a bunch of mega hipsters and started spewing off about nuance and the most obscure things imaginable for the sake of being obscure. me commenting on my awareness of this fact only furthers my point. then i realize that it doesn't matter on tiny bit. no why? cause CT rocks! and how could anyone help but to feel compelled to share the fact with as many people as possible
Will all due respect.., the Jimi Hendrix of voice? That might be Linda Sharrock. (Sonny Sharrock: Black Woman-1969) Liz Fraser is closer Piaff /Kate Bush/ Annie Ross/Tim & Jeff Buckley. Nice company to be in.
Enya? I can see some comparisons, but Liz was incredibly adventurous, raw and progressive with her voice, whereas Enya is simply a light and pretty singer.
Enya? oh please enya is only a singer, this is one of the best bands in the world, you can compare it, i dont know with Siouxsie and The Banshees or The Cure sound quality! but not with that.
The best CT songs trasnport one to a placetime you never knew before... If I had to chose - Bluebeard, the acoustic version on a mini EP. If you never heard it, get it. Sublime. Transcendent. The ending of the song just gives me chills. Thanks.
I like this live version even better than the album version. It touches me even deeper, feels even more emotionally pulling me from within, stiring the style.
This is absolutely by far 1 of my favorite songs by them. Liz Fraser is, by my choice, 1 of the best vocalists i have ever heard. I look forward to her solo album. Cheers to you Liz and the Cocteau's.
It is soooo amazing to hear liz actually sing well live. I was at the shows where she sounded like a strangled swan and was mortified. You have to hand it to her, when she is on, she is on! Perfect
it remains to be seen {heard] "where" her voice/s are now. ya know, this is a woman who had literally several voices, and the one she "uses" lately, is deliberately VERY quiet, more of a Hope Sandoval type of voice. but... who knows what we'll hear when {if} this fabled solo lp is released.
the Massive Attack song, "Teardrop"? [a good example of how quiescent her voice has become] that was ages ago. she's done tracks since then. mostly all under guest pretenses, except for some solo voice recording she wrote and produced for apparently an art exhibit (i've heard like a 30 second sample of that.)
her own daughter has recently said, at the MAIN C/T Forum, that she's heard cuts from LIZ's long-awaited solo lp. it's just unreleased as of yet.
this and Orange Appled from this live show are two of their best performances. A year or two before she went out with Jeff Buckley who persuaded her to murder her live singing. I saw them in 96 and had trouble recognising some tracks!

Diamanda Galas is def the Jimi Hendrix of voice - nobody does those tight-throated operatic guitar solos quite as well as she

There was Nina Hagen, back before she lost her talent and her mind. I love Diamanda!

floatboat and ella from BBK
summerblink and pur from 4CC
or treasure and seekers from M&K
