  • Early in the morning

I scrubbed and bathed his body

    But embers kept bursting out,

    And my hands flagged.

    I crushed choori,

    He would not eat it.

So I fed him the flesh of my heart.

He took flight, such a flight did he take,

    That he never returned.

  • Mother! Mother! I befriended a hawk. A plume on his head Bells on his feet, He came pecking for grain. I was enamored! His beauty Was sharp as sunlight. He was thirsty for perfumes. His color was the color of a rose, The son of a fair mother. I laid A bed of love In the moonlight. My body-sheet was stained The instant he laid his foot on my bed. The corners of my eyes, Hurt. A flood of tears engulfed me. All night long I tried to fathom How he did this to me.

  • @pushpinder074 the real reason for his death was coz he loved a girl who was daughter of famous punjabi poet gurbaksh preetlarhi.. gurbaksh preetlarhi dint let them meet together so he started drinking.. he used to drink n write his poems..he s from a town called batala which is gurdaspur distt in punajb n ths town s near to asr..

  • In the introduction part of his megapoem LUNA it says that he had a childhood friend. She died of smallpox. That affected him. After that he saw the bloodshed of 1947. And then he had an unsuccessful affair with some girl named Meena. So all that contributed to The pain and sadness in his poetry. His job as a Patwari helped him acquire a vast knowledge of Punjabi vocabulary. And the guidance of his guru whose name I can't remember made him the most celebrated poet.

  • excellent!!!what a gem in the otherwise culturally rich punj-abb?This man not only had a perfect command on spoken punjabi but was a master orator in selecting scintilating words of expression coming directly from the soul. And what to speak about the golden voice!!!M bitting my nails.

  • how he died in young age so sad what was the reason?

  • he used to drink alot....dat was da reason he died in his young age....and i heard his song..."Assan tan joban rutte marna....joban rutte jo vi marda full bane jaan tarra....joban rutte ashaq marda jaan koe karma wala"....and it went true for him...

  • @sekhon0210 and I'm sure that used to drink alcohol without mixing any liquid, and did not had plenty of water. which resulted in renal failure (kidney failure) and on those days fecility of dialysis was not availabale. in his interview you can notice how hard he is trying to take careof his "dry lips".

  • @sekhon0210 he dint died of drinking 22 !!! he died of some disease !!! its just an urban legend ......

  • @chullbulla the real reason for his death was coz he loved a girl who was daughter of famous punjabi poet gurbaksh preetlarhi.. gurbaksh preetlarhi dint let them meet together so he started drinking.. he used to drink n write his poems..

  • @chullbulla he was addiction of alcohal

  • man i thought he liked dis gurl and she went to england:-/ so he wrote this song

  • i think u r right yuvi, the girl flee to uk. the information on wikipedia doesn't seems to be correct.

  • yea guys it was england.... not america...

  • @lovedeep88 Actually she was the daughter of famous novelist and poet Gurbaksh singh preetlari and her name is Urmila Anand, she is still in the UK...I wonder how one can live a normal life knowing that someone died a thousand deaths for them every minute of their life like Shiv did.

Lord Rest his humble soul in peace.

  • nice wording shiv jii....

    thanxs 4 uplaod dude...

  • who was that lady, to whow shiv kumar loved

  • Around this period, he met a girl named Maina at a fair in Baijnath. When he went back to look for her in her hometown, he heard the news of her death and wrote his elegy -Maina-. This episode was to prefigure numerous other partings that would serve as material to distil into poems. Perhaps the most celebrated such episode is his fascination for Gurbaksh Singh's daughter who left for the US and married someone else.

  • When he heard of the birth of her first child, Shiv wrote -Main ek shikra yaar banaya-, perhaps his most famous love poem. It-s said that when she had her second child, someone asked Shiv whether he would write another poem. Shiv replied -Have I become responsible for her? Am I to write a poem on her every time she gives birth to a child?- Sounds much better in Punjabi (main oda theka leya hoyaa? Oho bacche banayi jave te main ode te kavita likhda rehma?).

  • He married on Feb 5, 1967

His wife Aruna was a Brahmin from Kir Mangyal in district Gurdaspur. By all accounts Shiv had a happy marriage. He had two children, Meharbaan (b. Apr. 12, 1968) and Puja (b. Sep. 23, 1969) whom he loved immensely.
