@TheZizzac Looks like a Gingery gas furnace as designed by the late, great Dave Gingery, author of the "Build Your Own Metal Working Shop From Scrap" series. Google "Lindsay's Technical Books" to find said tomes of knowledge.
@scienceguy8 You are correct. I used Dave Gingery's book with a few modifications. The gas valve is connected to a latching relay to remain shut off in the event of a power loss. I used 16 gauge sheet metal for the blower and body shells and I used a commercial refractory mix that has stood up to 20 years of use. It is in need of a re-lining.
Gosh if that's all you have to do I should be an eagle scout about 20 times over! Casting metal is fun. Nice work. Looked like it was a bit short on metal though... Gotta watch out for that. Its terrible spending all your time only to have a shrink cavity.
Hi, thx for this awesome video. I was thinking-I have at home 2 kilograms of quality copper, do you think I would be able make something from that at my cottage? I would like to use lost vax method and manage with tools I find there. Just curious if it's worth trying. I would like to make quasi-celtic bronze spearhead. thx for advice
Love scouts! last weekend i went camping with my troop, and i brought along a bunch off pennies and an elephant shaped ceramic pot, and we used one of our localizers and a bunch of charcoal and we got it hot enough to where we were able to melt the pennies, and when we ran out of those we used Al foil, and we made an awesome metal elephant casting! WOOT!!!
I'm building a furnace right now that will be using an A100? (100# Aluminum) crucible. I'm very curious about your burner and it's design. Would you care to share?
Like it was stated in another post, you have a fantastic furnace set-up. I'd like to learn where or how you came up with the design also. I just did my first pour of the lost wax method, and I'm hooked with the whole process.
that is sand casting my boss paul at the allan houser foundry in santa fe,nm did some of that for himself but we did shell casting for many artist there work in all the departments from mold to patina had fun there learned alot from every1
