I love the original movie. It's awesome. But people need to stop bitching about remakes. Yeah we get it, Hollywood isn't original anymore. Get over it. Continuously whining about remakes isn't going to fix anything. Also, a remake takes nothing away from the original. We still have our original copies (some VHS- hell yeah!). But if they remake it will I see it? Hell yeah. Because I loved the original and a different take would be interesting.

I can't believe how much Hollywood has gone downhill with movies. They just can't come up with their own original ideas. And when they actually do, majority of the time they suck because they're too busy worrying the target audience and money to worry about the actually film. What pisses me off even more is when people don't know about the original or the first movie becase they don't title it properly . Hollywood does that on purose. Sorry but I don't think Hollywood will get back on its feet.

Dont remake it. Just leave it alone. If they have to remake it, give it to somebody like Joss Whedon, a sci fi person. No big budget directors, all they will do is cram it full of CGI.  Also i they remake it, they are going to have problems with the story. Since there was no USPF and no New York prison within the time period the movie was base in. And if they set it further in the future, there is on WTC to land the glider on. Just leave well enough alone.

Shame on them for considering a remake. This film was my favorite action/suspense movie from the early 80's. I mean, most John Carpenter films were: The Thing, Halloween, They Live, The Fog...

I hate the idea of a remake, why not send in a new character in to the same New York.

Snake is techically the supporting character, not the lead. The alien enviroment of New York being a prison is the main character.

They should deal with a realistic theme: being the people born and raised in new york who are guilty for the crimes their fathers made that got them raised there. The system doesn't work in the long run.

Just a thought.

So far imdb is looking a bit blank, god I hope not because it seems like only yesterday I was getting into this dark underworld of visionary by John Carpenter and I've only watched Escape from New York twice today, not to mention the countless other times, over the years. The original still works even standing on its head it still delivers.

UPDATE (2nd Nov): Ratner says he's now NOT going to be attached. And Gerard Butler has dropped out citing 'creative differences'. This project is a mess! Terminator 3 director Jonathan Mostow is in talks to step in. But now they need a new Snake - Who could do it?!

Actually, I rather enjoyed the Willie Wonka remake with Depp. I thought he was brilliant. However, it did not lessen my love for the original with Wilder.

Escape From New York on the other hand, sucked to begin with. So why would someone try to remake it? JMO

The Thing was a remake and Kurt Russell and John Carpenter did a great job with it. However, Escape from New York was good the way it was. It's still relevant to today's society and the only thing they'll do with the remake is put a bunch of cheesy actors in it and product placement for stuff nobody needs. Get ready for the Duke of New York to have a close-up as he drinks a Coke and plays XBOX 360 while driving an Escalade with 22" spinners.
