  • As a vegan economist, I thought the disemboweling a pig part was awesome.

  • "Antivaccination rally cancelled due to Measles" I love you guys.

  • Why would Congress need money in space?

  • @NPShooter Because they are Congress.

  • "church and state caught flirting in senate chamber" LOL

  • AUSTRIAN ECONOMICS WOOOOOOOOOHOOOOO.

  • god, i hate those news episodes. I always wanna read the whole text, but I can't listen to what they are saying the same time.So I always end up watching the video 20 times. Still funny though

  • @gurkenhamster There's this great thing called the pause button.

  • What are they even going to do with all that money in space?

  • Trust void where prohibited.

  • I love the new news graphics.

  • SMBC, I will PAY YOU MONEY to make an entire regularly-broadcast news show like this.

    Do another kickstarter!

  • TheOnion did it.

  • @efraims Simpsons did it too

  • 2:30

  • Long lost twin turns out to be mirror

  • Church and State caught flirting in Senate Chamber.

  • if i have nice lips why do guys tell me they want me to get on my knees?

  • Thrice an eagle should appear, avoid reverse dual currency notes!

  • while the onion already did this, the bottom text makes up for it.

  • Nice ending, this should also go on Conan for the Thrice comment

  • The crawl is the best part

  • Hand was on dick while watching, suddenly:

    :(

  • First watching: video was funny.

Second watching (sound off, reading bottom thingy):video very funny

    In all:yes.

  • Problem: NASA has a rocket program that is about to be de-funded. Problem: I'm wanted for stealing millions of dollars.

    PROBLEM SOLVED!

  • as an economist, I approve

  • Those last 5 seconds were the most epic thing of all time

  • Zach really doesn't like economists, eh?

  • You just parraphrased my Economy professor word for wordm SMBC.

  • Comment removed

  • James at the end... amazing.

  • Eh, it was funny at parts, but it's not a very good satire of actual economics.

  • I liked this. The host sucked, though.

  • People who don't find this funny obviously don't know any economists in real life.

  • Really good CGI guys, really good!

  • @rllybites CGI?? That was real. Cost us nearly $14m and it looks like CGI?? DAMMIT

  • @smbctheater How many hours of EC2 was that?

Did you know Star Wreck: In The Pirkining had the best CGI to ever come out of the Finish Film Industry? They did the blue screens in their apartment and rendered it on a few PCs over about 10 years.

  • @smbctheater wiat, you mean you guys aren't robots?

  • @smbctheater real? I thought Kelly was CGI too!

  • @smbctheater It seems like that spaceship cost more than that, but whatever.

  • weak punchlines... id say a miss.

  • Don't listen to the unbelievers, SMBC... Fine work, as always. I for one will keep some broken whiskey bottles on hand in case of worker laziness, or whatever they call it in their primitive language... exhaustion, starvation, ebola outbreak, whatever; useless layabouts... and in the meantime, I'll keep loading my rocketship with stacks of money..

  • I'd rather watch The Onion.

  • I liked this one, particularly the chart introduction^^

  • Church and State flirting in Senate Chamber.

    SOMEBODY STOP THEM!

  • Only thing I lilked was the ending and the captions on the bottom and the marginal value of life of chinese sweatshop children

  • Only thing I lilked was the ending and the captions on the bottom

  • Ending part was the only thing I liked for this

  • watch,dont fish and drive!

  • This one did not make me laugh. Sorrry

  • it's like the onion, but not nearly as well done. In fact, all I could think of while watching it was how much worse it was in comparison. SMBC should stick to their other videos.

  • Julian Assange accused of...I dunno...racketeering.

  • @guero000000

That should teach him not to release my porn collection to the public.

  • as an economist... ah

  • oh, remembers me of school times where we had to learn different english verbs for those pointy lines...

oh, and they mentioned Austria, FUCK YEAH!

  • @SolidFake the austrian school of economics is a fairly obscure heterodox school whose many insights are ignored by hopeless mainstreamers too weak to face the truth but which happens to explain economics surprising far better than anyone else. the reference here didn't really make sense but its interesting that they did so at all.

  • @Jakomancer Correct. The Austrian School would say that ups and downs are bad and signs of undue government intervention.

  • No sound in space, Zach!

  • @Totema1 There is when you have enough money.

  • Bad ripoff of The Onion.

  • Only the ending was remotely funny, so just skip to 2:30

  • Wait... This isn't the Onion!

    I've been had!

...I have been had? Had been had?

    ....I mad?

  • @JesterLeafnose U mad.

  • Too much money on earth. No money on the moon.

    Problem Solved!

  • James gets the best endings.

  • I think this one is trying too hard.

  • Text funny talking LAME !

  • Liked only for the Congress bit.

  • After having suffered through AP Macroeconomics, I find this absolutely hilarious, and am considering sending it to my old instructor to make a point.

  • "Keynesians think downy parts, good." Lol. That's probably the only truth in this...other than Congress escaping in a rocket ship full of money.

  • " Church and State caught flirting in senate chamber. "

    <3

  • Comics better than all videos.

  • Watch CNN/Fox News financial programming for 5 minutes. Realize how sadly true this video's point is.

  • steal his monney touch him on the dick

  • Only the very last segment made me laugh.

  • 2:30 make a movie of this >:|

  • I have only two symbols to add: :)

  • Wikileaks! Not mu porn collection!!! Damn you Assange...

  • @TheJsHep my... damn one handed typing

  • Definitely my new favorite, if only for the scrolling bottom bar.

  • James was the only good part of the video

  • So apparently if you're "in the zone", minutes consist of 70 seconds. Damn, those economists DO have it figured out how to raise your productivity per time unit. Just slow down time! Brilliant!

  • Onion much?

  • I think that chart translates to "Fuck you we've got all your money."

  • julian assange accused of ... I dunno... racketeering?

    AWESOME!!!

  • I'm not American and I don't understand these hard words... Well, thumbs up and adding to favourites for hard work!. And that text bellow. :)

  • Why the quality of economic discourse in the media in so poor I reckonI might just write dick jokes each an' every day I'll tell you what.

  • LONG LOST TWIN TURNS OUT TO BE MIRROR

oh my god... that made me laugh for about five minutes, thanks guys :)

  • Classiest looking James we've probably ever seen.. and we get to witness it for all of 1.8 seconds.

  • Love it

  • Anyone else notice how hellishly out of control that rocket is?

  • WE WANT JAMES!!

Seriously though, he's the best. No offence.

  • It might have been funny, if it wasn't so sad and true.

  • Yeah, James totally made this awesome.

  • I was just about to "meh..." when james appeared roflmao

  • Long lost twin turns out to be mirror

  • @razvan4356 LOL WUT!

  • This was an unfunny ripoff of the Onion. Why call it a ripoff? Because this wasn't imaginative at all, it just borrows the aesthetic of the Onion, but not the funny.

I feel like I just watched some highschool students' economics "final project" because they mostly wanted to show off their cameras and graphics effects.

  • @jas16899 They show off their cameras and graphic effects every time they do an SMBCT. People who watch them all get used to that and appreciate the funny more.

  • @jas16899 I agree it wasn't one of the best, but it wasn't a ripoff . If you read the SMBC web comic you'd know Zack makes these kind of economists jokes all the time.

  • Whoever wrote this one didn't really know enough about economics to make it funny. The news crawl was several orders of magnitude funnier.

  • @opcn18 It's funny 'cause it's true. Freshwater, saltwater, it's all Walrasian fairy-tales. The "Keynesians" who go on the telly are usually devotees of Samuelson's reformulation of Keynes in terms of Walrasian marginalism (a feat comparable to reformulating Kepler in terms of Ptolemaic epicycles), rather than people who are actually familiar with Keynes and Minsky.

You don't have to be a tailor to be able to tell that the emperor has no clothes.

  • @opcn18 The fact they didn't know anything MIGHT have been the joke... I am assuming watching birds flying isn't generally part of Economics... assuming.

The news crawl's always awesome tho.

  • @opcn18 I don't think any amount of knowledge can make jokes about economics funny.

  • Pretty bland throughout, save for the hilarious nonsequiteurs that were in the crawling text. Ending was really funny, though.

  • Text better than video.

  • LOL, very Onion-like. nice change. good work.

  • As always, JP and James steal the show. It also amazes me that JP can simultaneously be a reporter for SMBC News AND one the consultants.

By the way, where the hell has John been lately? He was my favorite....

  • Boo.

  • Eh, that was pretty boring. James capped it off nicely, but this is applying to a small demographic here on the internet, those who watch news about stocks and watch SMBC theater.

  • good vid very funny

  • My favorite part was the text down below.

  • Man. Is this how people see economists? This. This is why you need economists.

  • @Excaliburproxy This is pretty much how people see business journalism. Once that costumed idiot Jim Cramer set the tone, it was all downhill.

  • @rickrussell Well, for all his baffoonery Jim Kramer did beat random chance. That is fairly impressive, but the success of those stock choices could be due to the fact that Jim Kramer suggested them.

  • @Excaliburproxy It's how people see the sort of economists who get to go on TV. And that's perfectly justified - witch doctors the lot of them.

Wake me up when a major cable network has an economist on retainer who works with non-equilibrium stock-flow consistent models. That is to say, models that aren't garbage.

  • Excellent

  • The bottom text was the best part.

  • This makes me question why I chose to do economics in school

  • You aren't the onion.

  • @RingburnDave

The onion did not invent satirical news shows. Or are you just stating the very obvious for trolling purposes?

  • @RingburnDave and the onion isn't "Not the 9 o'clock News" ... Your point?

  • am i the only one who thought the rocket ship full of money bit was the best part of this clip?

  • Meh. Liked the text and James, though.

  • Damn, that is the only "meh" video ... except for the ending, which is amazing!!

  • This was a little too the onion-y for me.

  • @trazac no you're an onion

  • This made as much sense as Seth McFerlane's cartoon cavalcade. Yet, somehow, it was way better.

  • For some reason I was hoping for "Both Sides."

  • 'Long lost twin turns out to be mirror'

The text news is freakin' hilarious.

  • @Tpar1234 They've had a green screen since the one with the pedophile suicide club.

  • I clicked on this from my subscriptions, and thought it was the onion until 0:22...

  • yay! economics!

  • At the risk of sounding like an Ivory Tower douchebag, I feel like you have to have sat through at least six credits of bullshit Economics lectures to get the full impact of this one.

  • @olddeuteronomy wholly crap, I was thinking the same thing.

My question to you, what's worse:

Explaining to your conservative great aunt Tilly that Medicare is a government program that's paid for by taxes,

    or

Explaining to your liberal uncle Bill that raising taxes decreases productivity.

Both sides drive me to nose bleeds and copious drinking. Reality is so far divorced from modern politics that it makes me weep quietly in the night.

  • @Revyloution My solution: show up drunk enough that you don't care and sober enough so that you don't want to argue for the hell of it. Unfortunately, it's a fine, fine line to tread...

  • @olddeuteronomy 3 credits of bullshit economics and 3 credits of bullshit accounting also work.

  • Love the asterisk.

  • LOL the scroll at the bottom!

I may start using "Waste of molecules", "Woo-ray" has entered my vocabulary while around other SMBC fans.

  • I found this one to be especially dry and sarcastic. Especially some of the ticker tape messages. Favorite part of the video: the M Night Shyamalan - Starbucks story in the ticker.

  • I keep clicking 2:35

  • lol 0:23 you can see a mic or somthing come in the greenscreen at the top

looks like they upped their production values

  • they clearly tried way too hard to be the onion

  • wow congress is awesome. I'll miss you Andre Carson.

  • Meh.

  • Can anyone say 'The Onion'?

  • @Thimblefish No, I don't have a microphone thanks for making me feel inadequate. :(

  • @Thimblefish i might but the onion doesn't laugh that much

  • Julian assange accused of... I dunno racketeering?

  • Oh yes, the snorting!

  • Good production value!!! although the keying was a bit rough...

  • I guess parodies of boring subjects are still boring.

  • @Unzorn I thought I was the only one thinking this.

  • One of the worse ones.

  • the new ticker was better than what they were saying....

  • Not the best, but still good. And I liked the bits down the bottom.

How much to get you to advertise my webcomic down there for your next one? (I would have posted a link but I kept getting error messages).

  • Financial news you can trust*

  • @hippodragon8

lol I wondered if I was the only one who caught that :D

  • Another video saved by James

  • Sacrifice a bird to Zeus, touch him on the penis.

  • i re-watched this just to catch all the text at the bottom...

  • Austrian economics is the closest to basic mathematical truth. Ludwig von Mises predicted the Great Depression, for instance, based on the Fed Reserve's currency inflation and deflation. It's science. Debt-financing Keynesian economics create bubble markets by falsely signaling a high level of demand (abnormally low interest rates) which inevitably corrects back to the actual lower consumer demand levels, creating a bust.

  • I think I speak for everyone when I say; make more videos making fun of religion cliches.

  • Honestly? Economics in a nutshell. Might as well be counting chicken bones.

  • I loved the ending so much. SO MUCH

  • James was easily the best character there.

  • This was already a good video, but the congress part afterwards reminded me why I subscribe to you guys: your awesomeness.

  • did anyone else read the text news down below?

  • @MrRico2xy ya they were better than the video.

  • @MrRico2xy lol that's why i always watch smbc vids with news tickers at LEAST twice :)

  • @MrRico2xy did
