No freckles2720, the bible is NOT chauvinistic, man is. God see ALL of us the same, as HIS children (Romans 2: 11). Whatever your profession is, you went to school and mastered it, right? Well, it's no different from the Holy Word of GOD. I notice how you search for the negatives in The Word, but, there are many, many positive things that you have over looked in The Word which is LOVE. You will submit to your employer in this wicked world, but, have problems understanding submission in The Bible
@MrLawrence7777 There are many women that are true christian women and very happily married that have NO problem with submitting to their husbands, and their husbands LOVE them unconditionally. Submitting to your husband according to biblical standards DO NOT mean being a slave to the man, only that you are following his lead, especially if he is submitting to CHRIST. You follow whatever order your boss give to you at work, but, are ready to rebel with a person (your husband) that you marry.
@MrLawrence7777 That's why there are so many single women today. They love this world and the things that are in the world so much, but, detest the things of GOD, and that leave many women alone and lonely. You place too much value on material things and positions in this life as a means of happiness and success, if that was so true, you would NOT be searching for a husband, you would be content in whatever state that you are in at this moment. Deep down in your soul, you still feel empty. WHY??
@MrLawrence7777 I am just giving a little feed back because I ran across your video and decided to give my input, ooh, along with studying The Holy Bible you must be born again with The Spirit of GOD in your heart to give you total understanding of HIS Word. This is truly not the place to give you a full understanding of The Word of GOD, but, I hope that I have given you enough to enlighten on some things. Be blessed in Jesus.
If you are a Christian, then you believe that the Bible is the word of God. Chauvinistic or not...if it is the word of God, then His will be done. Of course, you may pick and choose your own religious condiments and create a more palatable Christian God for yourself. Kinda like a they do at Burger King...Christianity made your way. That is pretty much what we have in the US anyway. People picking and choosing what they like and don't like, putting it together, then calling it Christianity.
@jblackmel..the bible is chauvinistic and hypocritical..all you need to do is look at deuteronomy...it was also stated that if a man rapes a WOMAN he should marry her and never PART FROM HER.load of bull...its says also that shrimp or any sea creature is an abomination.MEN have to be submit-Able TO RECEIVE THAT PRIVILEGE.not being good provider and having a boat load ofkids doesnt make a BM worthy of a woman submitting to him.PLUS, the only reason you think its GODS view the bible is becos of
God said that He was above man and man was above women. Therefore until man hear God's own voice in authority of what he does then he is given free reign to voice authority over women. Women - no fear because most men will not hear the voice of God until he sees Him face to face upon death. Also men should follow the bible and treat women the way Christ treated his mother and other women.
If you are saying that the "bible" is chauvinistic, then you are saying that God, to the extent that you believe in a God, is therefore chauvinistic. If they bible is the "word of God," then you are saying that he is chauvinistic. Is this your argument?
freckles2720...Christianity is a product of a patriachial system that has lasted for the last 2000 years. If you study where the orgins of Religion, you will see that the stories have been manipulated from an earlier truth. Reaseach the Egyptian orgin of Christianity. Many native religions and belief systems worshipped the woman because of her obvious relation to creation. Woman bring forth Life not Men.
The bible does show chauvinist views of women. Despite of the many verses that tell men to love their wives. The bible may be 'authored' by god, but it didn't fall from the heavens. It was written by men.
The question ur asking deals with religion. When practiced religion is used as a reference for ways to live Life. Based on the Christian religion, the man supercedes the wombman, and the wombman is to be under the thumb of the man and a society ruled by men. Even within the Christian holy trinity you have the Father God, the Son of God, and a Spirit. Where is the Black Womban at???
In genesis, I thought man and woman were created as equals and to be each other's companions. But after disobeying god, and eating from the tree of knowledge a punishment was women being subject to men. If you look at the punishments given to adam and eve some are true to this day.
The Bible talks about the woman being the lesser vessel but doesnt mean the woman is the weaker of the two. Physiologically speaking men on average are stronger than women. However women often have an inner strength that surpasses that of men. The reference of the lesser vessel applies more to order. Man was ordained the spiritual leader of his family and placed in charge. Therefore by divine order woman was place in the lesser rank under the mans care and protection.
In the Bible it doesn't just say that women should submit to men. First of all the man has to submit himself to God, then is says the women should submit herself to her HUSBAND, not just any man of the street, and finally it say that they the man and woman who are married should submit themselves to each others. This submission is one of respect and love to each other.
lvmcmill ~ Actually, no where does the Bible tell the HUSBANDS to "submit to their wives".... Husbands are to submit to his head, which is Christ, not the wife... The husband is the head and leader of the home, not the wife.
In context and as a whole you may get a different view that's not so chauvinistic.
God chose the rib but I'm sure he could have chosen another part, but the rib comes from the man's side, where a woman should be if they are partners. God wanted the same DNA, since man was made first they only way this could happen was by using his DNA. If another location in the earth were chosen then woman may have come out different and would require more work to achieve perfection.
No, the Bible does not endorse chauvinism or male superiority in any way. That's modern feminist garbage. However the Bible does requires a good wife to submit herself to her husband in everything while in return the good husband is required to lay down his life for her. You're on the right track in your searching. Once you understand the Biblical marriage system you will never want anything to do with feminism again.
The wife is to submit to her husband and the husband is to be submitted to the Lord...There is a leadership structure ordained by GOD to keep order, unity, peace, and longetivity in the marriage.
This is not an issue of whether the wife "has a mind"... The MAN is to be the loving leader/head of the family with God as his leader/head... This does NOT mean that we oppress you,, it's about you accepting the Man's responsibility for his household.
"His household" means his wife and children if any... The MAN is ultimately responsible for his household in the eyes of GOD...His headship is not determined by who makes the most money or whose name is on the deed to the house..
The man's headship is an appointment of responsibility that GOD has placed upon the MAN, and the man is to be connected and submitted to his Creator.
When things went wrong in the Garden of Eden,, GOD when looking for the MAN to confront him,, not the woman.
My issue with the Bible is the way women are treated as we are lesser. I have not seen one verse anyone has pointed out that convinces me that the bible is chavnunistic towards women especially since it was written by men.
Actually, the Bible is Authored by GOD not by men.. God simply used men to "pen" the Bible.
At your place of work, are you a LESSER person than your boss, or does your boss simply have agreater level of responsibility and authority?... Doesn't you boss also have a boss?.. Yet all are equally important and equally necessary, eventhough your roles, functions, and levels of accountability differs.
So,, do you think that the wife is to be the Head of the Household and not the man?
Also,, there are many verses of scripture that tell men to NOT CHEAT on their WIFE,,, to LOVE THEIR WIFE., to RESPECT THEIR WIFE,, to PROVIDE for his FAMILY,, to NOT BE HARSH towards their WIFE,,, to GIVE HIMSELF FOR HIS WIFE,,etc, etc.
So, I'm not really seeing how the BIble is chavnuitistic or one-sided.
Here's another question,,, If you weren't submitted to the leadership in your place of work, would you have a workable relationship there?
One more question freckles.. The problem you have with Male leadership in the Home,,, Do you have a problem with WHITE MAN leadership in the home also or just a problem with BLACK MAN leadership in the home?
I kind of agree with leigh. When I first read it years ago my first instinct was that it was telling women to be weak, but now I understand it to be saying that women should submit to husbands (not all men) in a certain way to keep balance in a marriage. They are so different that boundaries have to be set to ensure respect. Just as a woman shouldn't try to wear the "pants", a man knows if his wife is not happy, he can't go home and if there's one plate of food, she eats first, lol!
I think you raise an interesting topic. It's hard for me to take the bible literal because it talks about being good slaves and gays are bad, that seems very opinated and human-like. After all humans wrote the book and translated it so I feel like there's room for argument.
The bible has been reinterpreted over the ages...how do we know for sure it is 100% the inspired word of God? I cannot answer that for you; but you will have to trust your heart and do your research. Historians are split on accuracy and interpretation issues...I think you are about to embark on a deep journey and the answer you find will influence many of your key relationships. I have found this to be so. Good luck on your journey.
An ex-partner, ex-husband, friends I thought were friends(thus ex-friends, ex-associates) Many people are willing to call relationships to a halt over this: I just heard Monique(bless her) on her tv show last night say: women we need to submit to these men(I was blown away) This "submission" is the key element in many religions. Yet so many "religious" people have a hard time explaining its parameters. Ask for examples of submission and you'll see how far this goes. Peace.
It is so not like that. I am no less than my husband. We are equal. He treats me no less than I treat him. Actually he treats me better than most unsaved men treat their wives. He honors and respects me based on scripture. Like I said before, that was the way things were when the bible was written. You have to look at things from the heart not literal.
