I signed in and went through all the videos a second time to like and favourite them. Thank you so much, I'm very motivated and looking forward to "reboot" and bring more joy back to my life.
Great video, I hope I change, my life went down hill in the past 4 years ( I'm 19) alongside physical injuries n family problems, this only made things worse. Good luck everyone.
This stuff is true. Women don't understand how powerful these chemicals are to the male brain. Porn is an epidemic in America and 53 percent of church goers are watching it today.
Hey I just wanted to take the opportunity to tell say God bless you. I'm very excited to quit and get my brain back to normal. I have a few questions though. Does a numbed pleasure response explain why I feel like a zombie and why I won't laugh at small things that I usually would? And is my brain permanently damaged from over stimulation? But anyways,I'm pumped and I can't wait to turn into my old self. Thanks you so much again, you're doing an awesome service to a lot of people who need help.
@joshybumboshy Yes a numbed pleasure response explains the zombie feelings and lack of joy. No, your brain isn't damaged at all, it just adapted to overstimulation. Your brain can return to it's baseline, or maybe better - especially if you grew up watching porn. Good luck
@BodyWisdomVideos Great. However I'm sexually active with my girlfriend (sex one or two times a week), is that ok? Should I abstain from sex for a while so my pleasure response heals?
@joshybumboshy Maybe just eliminating porn will accomplish your goals. That said, almost all men on our forum abstain from orgasm during the reboot. It's the one's with ED that need to be the most strict.
Thank you so much for providing this resource without an overhanging stigma of religious morality. So many of the recovery tools currently available seem to have an agenda, while this is completely science-based and well-researched. I am in debt to you.
@Roobitz i appauled your answer but i challenge you to something. if the religous community described that pornography and masterbastion is bad for you and as you say u don't like that stigma even though its true. then what is the problem you have with religon which is in total agreement with this video? or to put it in plain terms, religion told you all the stuff he's talking about is bad, but u didn't want to hear that but he puts the same info to you without God envolved and you recieve it
@yashar254 The reasons religious groups give for not condoning porn use are completely different, usually based on a stated set of moral values, and whether their end recommendation is the same, it doesn't make it or any of their other claims correct by proxy. I have no issue with the production of porn, and have no problem with anyone else using it. I don't think it should be restricted in any way just because some of us tend to overuse it to the point of abuse.
@primenemisis Recovery is not linear. 3-4 weeks after ceasing an addiction, cues or triggers may be more compelling than right after quitting. Two different addiction processes are at work: 1) Desensitization, which involves lower D2 receptors and less baseline pleasure. 2) Sensitization which is formation of craving pathways. Sensitization may last for years, or forever. The higher your D2 receptors, the less vulnerable you are to sensitized cues or triggers.
@primenemisis Yes, low D2 is part of the theory of genetic vulonerability (for one group). For another population, it's higher dopamine rleases wfor novelty (risk-takers). However, "addictive personality" falls apart with food addiction and Interent porn addiction. W didn't evolve to want drugs, but we did to crave high calorie junk food, and sexual novelty. Now we have unlimited access to both and individuals without genetic vulnerabilities are developing addictions to these supernormal stimuli
Porn and excessive computer use have created a large hole in my life but there is good news. I have reduced my computer use significantly, as a result i am more social, happier and i now exercise. I am glad i watched this series of videos. It would be a lie if i said my sex life is great because it isn't. Even when i have had the chance for real sex, i have found it not good enough.I won't give up on trying and now take it seriously because it is an addiction. THANK YOU for this video.
@dariusfol Are you asking about masturbation or porn? The answer is yes on porn, perhaps on masturbation (may depend on level). Men who stop porn, and as result cut back drastically on masturbation, often see a reduction social anxiety. It is one of the most common benefits reported by those who quit porn use. Google: yourbrainonporn + social anxiety
@dariusfol Addiction involves a cluster of specific brain changes which include: desensitization (lower dopamine & D2 receptors), sensitization (neural pathways that release more dopamine fro the "addiction"), and hypofrontality (descrease in size & functioning of frontal cortex). Stopping an addiction initiates withdrawal symptoms and cravings. Music activates the reward circuit, but can it lead to a true addiction process? Probably rare, if at all.
I'm sorry to say but one of your slide points is SEVERELY incorrect. Everything you have said thus far I have understood and agreed with.. but You are dead wrong with #4 which reads "Morphing porn tastes that don't match sexual orientation (HOCD)". Now, there may be some morphing tastes for some people.. but this is NOT called HOCD. HOCD is different from what that line describes.
@HeartboundStudios I put HOCD on that line as an example of morphing tastes caused by porn use (and because I wanted to limit the numbers to 8). It 's true that it is just one of many examples. Are you saying it's not morphing tatses? Could you please elaborate?
@BodyWisdomVideos Sure. HOCD is part of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. It's a doubting disease and ALL it does is make the sufferer believe that he she might be something they're afraid of. For a person suffering with HOCD, they are afraid of being homosexual. They however, are NOT homosexual at all. The people who suffer from this know that. They're only afraid of it. There is also POCD, where the sufferer is scared of being a pedophile .. but they are actually not pedo's. (continued)
@BodyWisdomVideos (continued, pt.2) It is very possible and maybe true that excessive porn can cause morphing tastes, that I will not dispute and I am sure you know better than me when it comes to that. But I know for a fact that HOCD is completely different from that. It's a whole other category and is caused by an actual mental disorder (OCD). That's all sir. Keep up the good work though, thank you for these videos.
@HeartboundStudios Ah, I see your point. You might be interested to know that many guys (we didn't even know thought of themselves as OCD) report that their OCD symptoms decrease dramatically as they give up porn - after the initial withdrawal misery. We have seen many HOCD sufferers eliminate or drastically reduce their symptoms by stopping porn. It takes awhile and its not easy. Men notice a clear relation to porn use, as relapse causes a return of the obsessive HOCD thoughts.
By the way, I wanted to let you know that I have been porn free since the 3rd of August and I have no checked it or bothered with it at all since then and never will again.
Thank you for opening my eyes. You helped me so much.
Excellent series. However, isn't the take home message that you shouldn't use porn so much that you overload your reward system and downregulate dopamine receptors as opposed to cut porn out completely? If I cut it out completely and stay in a monogamous relationship, am I not doomed to a boring sex life based on the Coolidge effect? Or canI circumvent the Coolidge effect by having infrequent sex?
@BodyWisdomVideos That is, I found information on the coolidge effect and porn on your websites, but not advice on circumventing the coolidge effect. Can you post a link in your reply?
@vteam02 If you are using porn you cannot circumvent the Coolidge effect. If you are in a relationship there are traditions and practices that address the Coolidge effect. Google: "Psychology Today" + "How to talk to Cupid" and "Another Way to Make Love".
@fradav68 fradav, in this case I think you should change the way you see the sex, I mean shifting the perspective. Nowadays, in western civilization, sexual arousal comes almost only from the morbid fascination for sex, even if that sex is happening with the couple. In the other hand we have the chinese culture, in which sex is based more on the love for the couple and has a mystic component. I recommed you to read "the multiorgasmic man", there you'll be able to learn sex without ejaculation
What I'm interested in is the connection with Testosterone release. Does it go up with increased porn usage / masturbation or it it decreased by numbed pleasure response?
@Stupidxxxx Testoterone levels have nothing to do with porn-induced ED - it's reward circuitry desensitization. Many men with porn-induced ED visit urologists (of course), and all report normal T levels. Testoserone levels rise and fall due to a number stimuli: exercise, sex, mood, "winning or losing", etc. It's a good idea to see a urologist to eliminate other possible factors involved with ED.
This has enlightened me...as mentioned cause and effect don't realise how deep they are in however i live alone and get frequent time with myself and just think of going to a porn site almost mechanically.i have laptop that outside of work im always on.the last woman i was with i was extremly attracted to her and i liked her heaps..i still think of her emotionally but i failed she thought it was her fault...i said i was aroused by her but couldnt 'demonstrate it' i feel numb these days socially
the other issue is i work on rooves and under floors in fearful situations which i suspect overdoses me with dopamine either way...coupled with lots of porn...im barely motivated in saying hello to a woman...very unfulfilling
@dbenincasa77 I can't say exactly how your work environment affects your neurobiology, but its not the same as an addictive process. First, dopamine stops spiking up once you acclimate to a situation. Second, for an addiction the stimuli (work) must be perceived as rewarding. Third, you would crave more of it, and maybe suffer withdrawal symptoms once you stopped doing it (work). Fourth, you may need higher levels of stimulation (more work, more danger) to keep you satisfied.
I'm not a porn addict. But just have been viewing overall a long time. Its not hard to stop. Its just a thing people do when they are bored. Hopefully I can recover soon. I wish someone told me about this a long time ago.
Are there any drugs to quicken recovery? So the only way to recovery is to no M and watching P will help greatly? Ive been a week off. I also exercise daily too. Hopefully I can recover sure enough. I'm young too :( And what do you mean by linear?
@Beakyboo92 I know of no drugs that speed the recovery from porn addiction. I suggest Googling yourbrainonporn - as all the answers are their. We have never seen anyone recover from porn-induced ED without drastically cutting back or stopping masturbation altogether. Most men find it easier to quit porn use if they also stop masturbation. After rebooting, they can find a level of masturbation that works for them. Non-linear means lots of ups and downs, and maybe no libido for a while.
Very interesting, and is very cientific, im agree in all the process of all addictions in the brain, but unfortunatly, the main question is not answer yet ¿ Why do some people become addicted and other people dont ? the same as cocaine not all people who try cocaine became an addict, so ¿ WHY DO SOME PEOPLE BECOME ADDICT FOR WATCHING PORN WHILE OTHER PEOPLE DONT ?
@oscaedo Why some people become addicts and others not is very complex. For substance addictions, experts suggest genetics (low D2 receptors), emotional trauma, and comorbidites (anxiety, depression, etc). This model does not fully explain all food addictions or porn addictions. Addiction to extreme versions of natural rewards, such as junk food, or Internet porn, can involve higher percentage of users than most substances. We evolved to prize food and sex above all else.
OK, but i really cant stop masturbation ,any ideas?
