Scicluna in his earlier years was a highly ranked contender, but by the late 1970s and early 1980s had been relegated to the role of a middle card heel. Perhaps out of respect to his earlier glory, he occasionally would be matched up against a young and far less experienced jobber whom he was able to defeat. This put him in the category of Grade B heels such as Johnny Rodz, Jose Estrada, Davey O'Hannon, etc.
this really played into Woehrles rep as a no nonsense ref. he was the best. i spent ages 15-25 in Delaware Cty, PA and have many fond memories of going to the Spectrum live for wrestling and/or watching on PRISM
Great to see one of the under-appreciated WWE Hall of Famers in action. Also, I have seen Laurent Soucie in a battle royal on one of the old Coliseum Videos but never knew exactly who he was or even how to spell his name until I saw this vid. I can't tell you how appreciative I am to find out who he is. Thank you for posting this! LOL at Worley...where was Jack Tunney to suspend him for life plus ten years like Danny Davis?
Yes he was a native of Malta He was in his early 20s when he immigrated and settled in toronto, where he began wrestling professional, he ended up in Pittsburgh Pa,Where he became a legend
im gonna have to agree with mikebryson. and ppl like Rick Flair and Shawn Michaels were great wrestlers, amd still wrestle today. in my opinion i think they should give it up. they had great runs, and who knows how long their bodies are going to last? shawn is always getting hurt, and rick runs his mouth too much, but thats just me. so i think they should retire and sooner or later they will most likely be inducted into the hall of fame.
Who cares who could really stretch people in "real competition"? This is pro wrestling! It's about performance! God bless the promoters who weeded out the bad ones and gave us entertainment. There have been great shooters who were great pros (Vern Gagne, Billy Robinson and Kurt Angle). But some of the greatest pros were not known for their ability to hook (Ric Flair, Dusty Rhodes and the best ever Shawn Michaels). These guys made money for one reason: we the fans LOVED their work.
you're probably right. I guess if they couldn't draw money then they were doomed in professional wrestling. Soucie, McGraw, Jones, Travis, Rodz, etc. were decent wrestlers who never became what they should've. Credit the promoters for that loss. A lot of guys quit because they put in long hours and days (risking injury) for little money.

Does anyone know for sure whether Scicluna was really from the isle of Malta? I've seen various wrestling web sites that claim he was born in the US.

I'm fairly certain he was really from there. I could be wrong, but I'm fairly certain I'm not.

In real competition Soucie could have stretched a majority of the lockeroom. He did'nt get a good push and quit the business in 83-84.
