What a fantastic story and I continue to hear great things about Zappos. I am sure everyone's first response to this is "great, works at an internet company but what about my old line company". That thinking is the beginning of the end. Everyone should think like this! Don't just imitate it, adapt it for your culture but you should think long and hard about how you can make this work in your company.
but if you have been working for the company and meeting your numbers, doing your job and making the company money, they can still fire you for not following
there culture, its not all warm and fuzzy, there is alot of mind games and B S that goes on there
@Mark1Mach2 they cant fire you for not following the culture, its like saying if your black you cant eat at this restaurant, i would like to see them explain to a jury that one
For the record they do not pay people to quit. It is simply if you know you can't handle the job or the culture it is a way to opt out with a bonus. No questions asked. Only with a few stipulations...you are black listed from ever working there again and you do not get unemployment.
While I agree this won't work for every company, especially companies not interested in anything but the bottom line, this is smart.
Having worked in customer service, I really wish the company I worked for took some of these ideas. It would have made it a lot more fun place to work, and thus made me a lot more interested to work there.
Way to contribute to the American economy, this is the most idiotic business philosophy since all those idiot consultants saying to 'think outside the box.' And that philsophy basically offshored practically the whole American manufacturing industry.
How I wish na akoy magkakaroon ng ganyang claseng employer, they value their employee's worth.

Being young at Zappos helps. I saw nobody over 30. Not even the CEO.

Right, if youre 'not part of the eccentric team, they dont want you.' Typically liberalistic thinking.

@ThunderAppeal But it's good for the business. Profit goes up, costs go down, i.e. whole foundation of founding and operating a good business.

This is great stuff! I love that the company sells Customer Service - and shoes is secondary!
