  • Kim Novak famous for Vertigo and Picnic as well as Bell Book and Candle and

Pal Joey and having worked in a legendary career with Rita Hayworth, Billy Wilder,

Elizabeth Taylor, James Stewart, Roz Russell, Alfred Hitchcock, Frank Sinatra (twice), Jack Lemmon, Rock Hudson, Fredric March, et al was at her peak as an actress and a beauty in Strangers When We Meet co starring Kirk Douglas, Walter Matthau directed by Richard Quine whose adoration for Kim Novak shows thru the camera. Great star!

  • They don't make love stories like this anymore. Two greats giving excellent performances. Novak - Mystically sultry with an alluring beauty, Douglas with his ever famous inner intensity. Great film.

  • I love this film so much and this is first time I have seen it again since first showing way back. Tried to obtain DVD but not available in UK.Thankyou to who ever made this video you made an old lady very happy. Yvonne

  • I first saw this movie several years ago on TMC. This movie along with Vertigo, (1958) made me come to realize the sheer beauty and elegance of Kim Novak.

  • i first saw this movie new years day in 1960. still love it today

  • This is to much to ask for but is it possible to post this movie.

  • Me encanta esta pelicula.

    La vi siendo muy jovencita

    Y me fascino.

    Trata de Amor Prohibido.

  • Responder a este vídeo... Bellísima película. De una sensibilidad infinita. La recomiendo encarecidamente a cualquier espectador, pues no se sentirá defraudado.

  • Let us not forget the late great Ernie Kovacs for his comedic contributions!

  • Why this film doesn't get more credit for being, well, extraordinary, is beyond me. I have always felt that it is implied here that Maggie's husband is gay, something that wouldn't have been unheard of at the time (or even today). I actually like Kirk Douglas in this film, too. Novak is astonishingly good. This was a very honest look at a suburban affair and its fallout, with a very sad, but very realistic, ending. Thank you for posting.

  • @BettinaBalser I concur. I found this gem on late night TV and have always felt a connection to the story and performances. Kirk is like a fish out of water trying to underplay in a love story. Matthau is always superb as a louse and antagonist as he was in King Creole playing against Elvis! Novak was convincing in her portrayal of a housewife led astray. For a film of 1960 this was bold subject matter.

  • I agree with Livingni...a very beautiful, haunting theme song. I first saw this movie when I was 13 years old. A lot of it was over my head at that age but because of the beautiful scenery, I decided right then and there I would move to California when I grew up. And I did too.

I found Strangers on DVD at Amazon 3-4 years ago and watch it a couple times a year. Will always be one of my all time favorite movies. If you like love stories it's one of the best.

  • Kim Novak after Picnic, Man WIth A Golden Arm, Pal Joey, Bell Book and Candle, Vertigo etc was the biggest star at Columbia and one of the biggest movie stars in the world. Her then beau RIchard Quine along with Kirk Douglas,

Barbara Rush, and Walter Matthau assisted Kim in the brilliant film, a real movie gem. Matthau by the way said that no one helped him more re screen acting than Miss Novak.

    A great star!

  • @ToughXArmy69 I read Kim was dating Sammy Davis Jr. during this period and Harry Cohn the boss at Columbia put the Kibosh on their relationship.

  • My Favorite Movie.....I play it over and over......

  • These scenes prove how good she was. Unlike the other scenery chewing divas of her time, Novak could convey much restrained emotion by doing what appears to be very little. This subtlety was lost on many critics at the time. Nowadays, her performances seem quite contemporary and accessible, while many of her peers seem hammy and overdone.

  • The scene with her husband in their bedroom should have earned Kim Novak an Oscar nomination.

  • The music from this movie will haunt me forever. The film itself touched on a lot of emotions, and captures our attention. One of the best among the best.

  • Kim Novak is my grandpa's second or third cousin... There's something about us Czech girls. We're proud of our heritage. I like the observation you made, Judygenefan, about Kim's vulnerability with her husband... As well as your other observations. So profoundly accurate. And my! do I ever wish I looked like her.

  • I love Kim in this film. Her vulnerability in the scene with her husband is heartbreaking. She truly is an underrated actress and she is at her most beautiful here!

  • I always thought of Vertigo being the best Kim ever looked, but this actually outdoes that (in the close-up scenes with Kirk.)

  • Kim looked stunning always

  • In the '50s, inthe '60s in the '70s and also in the '80s and '90s Kim always looked inbeleivable beautiful

  • Look her close ups at minute 7:26 to 7:31 she is one of the GREATEST beauties of the screen EVER !

  • sorry to go on about this but look at how hammy and blow hard Douglas is in relation to Kim's sensitivity and subtlety....she really was a very good film actress

  • Oh, and you're completely right about Douglas -- a block of wood. :-)

  • kim was truly underestimated as an actress....wish I could see this film complete...haven't seen it since I wa a teenager...thanks for this !
