The drummer is, most likely, Marion Booker. He is from, and lives, here, in Houston, Texas. A few years ago, I hired him on a few shows. His drumming and his Hendrix related stories were, both, quite interesting.
WELLBRAN - mine was called Electric Ladyland believe it or not. It was black and had a big pic of Jimi on the front. The version of EL was the instrumental bit only and when I heard that I nearly flipped - it was that good! It was also called Loose Ends which you can find all the details on wiki. Its an interesting little read.
I got this song on one of my Jimi Hendrix vinyl, wow, I didnt know it was a rare one :P I found the vinyl in a small shop in a backstreet in Barcelona :)
if hendrix had gotten to spend time in new orleans and infused serious new orleans funk into him, the results may have been splendiferafunkified. yeah
I bought this from Dunns stores in Idle Bradford in about 1981 - it was a compilation album and included Electric Ladyland (the instrumental bit) Hoochie Coochie Man and Burning Desire. Nice!
@fieldfullofthistles I bought this on an LP in the 70's but cannot remember the LP, might still have it in my pandoras box ie the attic somewhere, never get rid of my LP's! my wife/family think I am strange, I then play all of them to my kids and they are shocked at the quality of music....they missed the golden era
This is probably very close to what Les Paul heard when he walked into the club around 1965 and heard and undiscovered Jimi (Jimmy) , and then returned later to find out he was gone, and only found out years later that that was Jimi.
I bought this cassette back in 1982 on the discount rack at a store called shopko.I remember only liking the guitar but what the heck . it was only 3 bucks. it is hendrix singing . most of the songs are sung by curtis. but hendrix also sung a few
This was a popular song played at dances when I was a teenager. Of course it was not this version we listened to. Glad someone was able to dig this up. Any idea what year this version was recorded?
I bet, it's Jimi singing.... it sound just like him, incredible sound, had the luck to talk to Jimi once in person for about a half an hour, many years ago... man... it's definitely him
the best sound quality i ever heard was this same concert but the album is called the birth of success on the music for pleasure label on a uk pressing
SWEET! thanks for posting.. I sold one of these back in the day when I had to dig crates to pay bills (the ones I could pay..) Was going through some of the ultimate breaks of all time setting up touch DJ on my iphone and immediately thought of this--and here it is.. love youtube for stuff like this and dudes like you might it possible.
it was written by by Alan Toussaint, same guy who wrote working in the coal mines and glen campbells southern nights, thats his song on that axe comercial too, with the chocolate man..sweet touch of love....many ,many bands have covered this song
funny I heard a interview with jimi once and he was asked is that the best drummer you could find? he said, who knows, he was the only willing one and i dont much care cause i have my own beat going on in my head....lol
Everybody's version is a cover version of Lee Dorsey's original!! This was cool, never heard Hendrix's version before!! You learn sumpin' new everyday from YouTube!!
The song was actually written by Allen Touissant. Lee Dorsey's version happens to be the most famous. Until now, Jimi blows it up on this track. "I'ma play it one step for ya!"
This is one of my favs from his time with Curtis Knight. Performed on Christmas plus one, 12-26-65. The bad audio can't mess this up for me. It is pure genius. Live forever, Jimi.
Even though the sound quality isn't great, the music quality is.
Thanks for posting this great recording!
