  • This song will forever remind me of my mom pausing to dance with her cat in the middle of decorating the Christmas tree... xD

  • @Spyderbel1 Jon Anderson's is good but still not better than this!

  • i love this song it is the best ever!!!:)

  • I Love songs like this. It reminds us that Christmas isn't about being greedy, or even giving. It is about rejoicing for what we have and being with those we love

  • Thank you.

  • @vonniep07 He apparently married early...

  • Not a big fan of Xmas music, but I've always enjoyed this song. One of my favorite holiday sounds.

  • my fav xmas tune! tra la la

  • love this carol...also check out my new christmas song called 'gypsy christmas'

    cheers

  • the reference to His "lady" is referring to his Mother the Virgin Mary in this text-

  • inspiring song. also check out my new christmas song called 'gypsy christmas'

    hit on gypwin.cheers

  • my favourite version of this song

  • i love this my chior is singing it

  • i can say by The voice that he is from irerland

  • @loppan109 He is English...

  • Swing-style? I agree. Kinda yuck to my favourite under-appreciated Christmas tune.

Hmmm...looking for the ultimate version of this song.

  • The kids have been up since 6 oClock

and all you got was a pair of socks

there's nothing on the telly box

    theres nothing on the telly.

We've go the family coming round

the Turkey's burnt and the Sprouts are brown

The wife doesnt like her dressing gown,

    there's nothing on the telly

  • This is my favorite version of this song.

  • Anything by Sting is good.

And as far as 'his lady' that is correct to use lady. Like I say "I banged my lady on the pool table" or "my lady was a hooker until she married me, then she was my wife" or something like that.

  • did sting write song??

  • @kyo1322 no it's a traiditional christmas song from somewhere in the UK can't remember where.

  • Formidable!!!! wonderful! auszegeichnet!

  • Possibly Mary Magdaline who, according to some, was his wife, dont think he'd call his mother his lady?

  • According to some people in the past 30 years...

We Catholics call Mary "Our Lady" it makes sense that if one saw Mary and Christ they could say "His Lady"

  • His " lady " also is a reference to the Church, I understand.

Sting doing Christmas carols - COOL !!

  • @knoxvilleguy2

Like Notre Dame (as in the cathedral) is 'Our Lady' in Latin or whatever?

  • @twizzlerskittles

I think that's just about right, but I mean the people, too.

  • ahaha "Notre Dame" is in French!

  • LOL that should have been obvious to me. XD

  • in french, yeah

  • @twizzlerskittles

Notre Dame= Our Lady in French

  • @JonnyFork Christ did not take on a human form to get married!! He took on human form to teach the Love of GOD and to remove karma from all mankind!

  • @JonnyFork actually if it's christmas in this context it's reffering to the virgin mary

she is often called "Our Lady" so in those times people understood who the song was reffering to

"lady" was actually a respectful term

(ps. Jesus reffers to His mother as "woman" many times in the gospels which also was a respectful term then)

  • @JonnyFork I believe his lady or woman refers to the church, Jesus is bridegroom and church is his bride (lady).

  • What would be bad about that?

  • Listen to the lyric: "What was in those ships all three?" "Our savior Christ and his lady"?

Who is his lady? The original lyric says it was his mother Mary but Sting's lyric makes it sound like it could be the other Mary.

  • @silbatooty221

Well.... actually, the original lyric DOES say "Our Savior Christ and His Lady". And it always meant Mary his mother, because, well, what other lady would he have with him on the day He's born?

  • @XPoetLacy .. I agree, there's absolutely no question that 'His Lady' is referring to Mary his mother.

  • AHHH :| I accidentally pressed one star :( but really it's 5 :D

  • This was the version that introduced me to this song.

I think there's also a version that Nat 'King' Cole did that's pretty good.

  • Sting or Jon??

  • My favorite xmas song

  • malthazar, balthazar, and casper those r the 3 wiseman's names i think

  • lulz...casper..xD

  • love it

  • With no disrespect to Sting, but I heard Jon Anderson's version and thought that one was much better

  • Jon Anderson "video" is much better, but you can't beat the unique voice of Sting singing this English Christmas song. I think the Sting version is the hot X-mas tune of 2009 and will be getting a LOT of playing time.

  • @twinkie57401 - I happen to totally adore Jon Anderson's voice. I literally threw a few pics together for this video because I could not find it on here and I had it in my files and thought it had to be heard, as the viewing figures now prove, I was right lol. Just spreading seasonal cheer yanno !

  • he almost sounds black at some points

  • sting has a great voice!

  • I love this song. I am trying a specifc version of this song, but I can't it is an instrumental version that uses flutes and piccolos. It is played at a really fast tempo. After playing the song once, they then start to play it in a minor key. I remember hearing a bit on the radio and in resturants years ago. I know it is a long shot, but if anyone can help me out in finding this version of the song, it would be a great help.

  • Marvelous video - great work!

  • are school chior sung this in a assmebley on friday they were soo good there trainned lol

  • If you ever do it over, Gordon, please use your own accent, I think it would be even better.

  • You know, Sting sounds somehow sincere here. "And let us all rejoice someday..." Thanks for sharing.

  • I was looking for this version for a long time Thanks & Merry Christmas! Let us not all forget the reason for the season!

  • wonderful thank you so much

  • best version

  • Such a refreshing change from all the tacky Christmas rubbish churned out by the radio stations. Nice imagery too. I'm a heathen of the highest order but this reminds me of primary school nativity plays, when we were taught the real meaning of Christmas before commercialism and political correctness tightened their evil grip. Sting's voice is gorgeous too, loved the Police.

  • I agree! Well said!

  • XD yay!!! please!

  • haha you got that right.

  • finally someone puts up the version by sting!! thank you!! XD
