Hi. To my knowledge today is the first time I've heard the name Tony Joe White. I'm sure I've heard his music before and just didn't know it was him. My dad is Jimmy Burns (Chicago), so I was raised with the blues. All I know is my daddy just hipped me to Tony Joe White, and hey, this is a bad dude.
Been a fave of mine for MANY years, remember him from the 70s and my trips to Mardi Gras. I think he is one of the best artists in America, a national treasure. A soft spoken man with a BIG message.
I was there as well, he just came on stage at the bowl with a Gibson 335 sat on his Fender Twin reverb, stamped his foot, played guitar and blew me away with his voice.
This was the second tim I saw Tony, the first was at the Royal Albert Hall in 1971 when he supported Creedence Clearwater Revival, was just as amazing there, I think his brother was in the band with him.
Load of other greats on that day, Jeff Beck, Lou Reed, Golden Earing etc
strange how it happened... i first heard tony joe white when i was riding in a korean taxi and the radio randomly played one of his songs. the song stuck with me so much that as soon as i got to my computer i found out who it was immediately. his voice and music are just soothing like nothing else.
This is music, this is heart, this music takes your ass and go away with you to the f**kin thing that called world and this is it what pop never can do to your life
Nice tone from the strat. Good licks from Tony. Great lyrics, as usual. Nice bass line, too. I'm gonna learn this one and play it for my jammin' buddies.
know the feeling, you're so good tony, one artist i've always admired greatly. will still play poke salad annie...looking great ...hope your life is good....
great track and soulful performance from the man - TJW may not be not always be note perfect but that's the point really - a real song real feeling real singing and blues from deep down - listening to this changes my mood and makes me see things from a bit of a changed angle like reconnecting with myself - thanks TJW
Awesome!!

Saw Tony Joe way back in London, Chrystal Palace, in 1973 ... first time he played Europe.
Though the dude was so f....... high the show was incredible.
Ever since I simply loved his muzak.
And this song is one of my alltime-favorates!

Mark Knoffler plays with Tony on his new album. I had no idea that he got his style from TJW.

Amazing song. So laid back.
Really makes you think about the Bayous, and sweetgrass. Just sitting on the porch, soaking up the summer heat, and the humidity.
