i've been an engineer for 5 years and i used to think like that but i wouldn't brag about it and say i'm better than you. people need marketers if they want the engineer's product to sell, people need economists to make sure operations are happening within budget. everyone values different things, there is no right or wrong answer, to say that everybody else sucks implies that you are trying to justify yourself for shortcomings that have reduced your social status.
The truth is that the no-talent bums in the marketing dept. always had better cars in the parking lot. But being an engineer is still worth it. I could do marketing and usually filled a vacuum they created. But the clowns in marketing could never do engineering. :)
Google Voice on Android phones has free text messaging. Liked most of the video. It's a good point that just because someone is creating a lot of new things does not need to be a total nerd but many still are and it can be a challenge to synergize productive on team projects with real nerds without getting your coolness negatively affected. The processed food statement got little too weird, that's how I received it.
@Eternal In good times being replaceable can be good thing. But it more often a bad thing. More importantly Engineers are seen as expensive and better to completely outsource. America is becoming less and less mfg driven every day I'm not saying that is good but that is what is happening so engineers R less important.
@Sour Moving Forward search found some song thats all BFD. Engineers are the most interchangeable ppl (disposable) of any professional job. Thats how the decision makers see U. Work hard and be replaceable brilliant!

@Proemed The only thing that has truly improved the standard of living for the people in the world is technology. well i do agree with what he says, except one thing: the comparison with the economy field.
That statement is shortsighted for an engineer. Good products make it to the market (aka in your hand) because of good analysis of the trends and the market's economy.
@mikestep1128 I would take the Accounting route. Engineering is cool as crap don't get me wrong but Accounting has a higher salary potential 5-10 years after entry level. @SkierGuy131 you dont need a business degree to be in business. the richest people in the world dont have business degrees. they have degrees in something else.
60% earn you a medal of freedom ROFL God I remember those days. I took a Semiconductor class once where the highest grade was a 40% I love Engineering
@MrRuva44 You only need math while you're in school but once you're out in the industry, the math is not as intensive. You should go for it if you have an interest in engineering regardless of your math level. You just need to take it one step at a time as any type of engineering degree is sequential.
Everyone here complaining about how much engineering is useless and that engineers suck have probably done so because they couldn't get through grade 10 maths and science.
Many engineers do things that are not needed. I studied engineering before medicine, and a lot of engineers do useless over-engineered analysis without taking into consideration the real practical clinical benefits. Most engineers don't have the guts to own anything, and are always dependent on other men leading them. At least the artist or "stupid business degree holder" is an owner, while the engineer is still a bitch. Engineers, take charge of your destiny like in the days of railways.
It's so weird. I'm an M.E. major and one of my best friends is an economics major who has a much more involved social life. It really feels like he was talking to me directly.
ok now pls pls pls can sum1 answer my que, if i take mechanical engineering what kind of jobs i do?, ill design machines, selecting materials and dimensions and also do i have to learn to program the device like the circuit etc?, any help will b appreciated
i finished an IT degree acouple of years back, then i lost my voice (it's slowly coming back) i couldn't get a job because of that, so i'm trying to study on my own android and also a couple of certification, i'm a bit depressed at the moment and i'm really procrastinating. Any suggestion ? anybody's been in a similar situation ?
What has always amazed me is how engineers and scientists get taken for a ride by greedy fat cats with their crappy business degrees(yes that's right, business degrees are not worth the paper they are written on). Scientists and engineer's come up with ideas and eventual products and the worse than useless ceo's, take home the big fat pay check. There should be a law, if you are a non-producer then there is only so much you can make. That would take care of CEO's and politicans, banker's etc.
@doire7 What we need is more than a law, we need a whole new sytem. Socialism is answer. A shame there's so much empty rpopaganda against it. And no, i'm not a stalinist.
@Lan5in6 explain this, what aspect of socialism is going to allow the creation of this system? I don't mind socialism but i don't see how its going to solve our engineering problems.
Have you ever owned, operated and grown a business?
Greedy fat cats.. what does that mean? "There should be a law, if you are a non-producer then there is only so much that you can make." Why do you wish to dictatorially control others?
Do "engineers and scientists" take courses in finance, accounting, operations management, marketing, macro and micro economics, budgeting, investing, risk management, information systems, sales, branding, customer relations, advertising, etc?
@AnarchoVoluntaryism There is no comparison between all those bullshit subjects you just named and the sciences and if you think there is, you are an idiot. I have never owned but i operated and help grow a business. Some of those subjects you mentioned would fall under the same category, einstein.
@AnarchoVoluntaryism and i believe that all the thesis papers that you had written for all the courses you mentioned were inscribed on a stone slab...definitely not on a Computer and yes you are a "Greedy Fat Cat"...why you mad bro? :D <--troll face
@AnarchoVoluntaryism No! but try to take those skills elsewhere and see how it works! anyone can have a business nowadays! Engineering is what the world needs for a better future!
@doire7 that would help the world, but then who would have the money to invest or make the company grow? btw I do agree that engineers are under-payed IMO
@doire7 idk it's those CEOs that invest money so there's a business in the first place. Plus CEOs are the first person everyone blames when someone from the company makes a mistake. Politicians also are kinda necessary to govern things so we have the convenience of order and laws. Sure they might always be in the wrong for having an opposite opinion or be self serving but if you make things happen as well as they can you should run for senate.
Just because you get an engineering degree doesn't mean you will have a career as an engineer. There are no guarantees. You may have a few jobs in engineering and then your career ends and you find there are no jobs your experience is good for. So no, it isn't worth all the hard work.
Studying engineering in college was fun. It provides a sense of joy when your conceptual design becomes reality in your senior design class. You can pride yourself in not falling behind like some of your liberal arts major roommates.
However, getting an engineering job in the United States sucks. Even if you get an engineering degree from a tier 1 school, it doesn't promise you a job. Is it still worth all the hard work from that perspective? I don't know
@chunkyazian You got a degree from a top tier school? Damb I got mine at a State College and I can't find any job I am starting to think it wasn't worth it. I found it fun in college working on projects and learning engineering. But, the ultimate goal to survive is to have money. Engineers up to the top 25% in income in the United States the average 80k/yr if you have a job. Average income in the usa is 46k/yr. 0.1% make i think 1.5mill and 2.5% make 250k. I'm going to try to teach math.
@MehdiVideos369 I've been studying this also, but if I had another choice, then Mechanical engineering or aeronautical engineering would be good and interesting.
@neophytetroll i don't know i mean i want to do computer engineering but i feel like it's boring or will get boring real fast , which type of engineering builds robots.
@MehdiVideos369 Mechatronics sounds interestings as it combines Mechanical engineering, Electronic engineering, Computer engineering, Software engineering, Control engineering, and Systems Design engineering in order to design, and manufacture useful products. Industrial robots for example. That's my opinion, you can look it up on some websites that the government has, also on wikipedia for reference.
@neophytetroll Actually I was just looking at a youtube video on Mechatronics and it sounds pretty cool when I first saw it, nothing that was boring or anything of the sort.
@toddsierer i know this sounds like a dumb question but which engineering isn't that hard and is also interesting and is also tech. related, can you help me please? thank you
@toddsierer I mean i want to study computer engineering but Computers aren't the only thing i would like to build i'd like to build for example robots or something people will find useful and would pay big money for. I want to create new technology. so I'm kind of stuck between picking Electrical, Computer and Mechanical. what is mechanical engineering about and would you say it's easier than computer and electrical engineering? I heard Mechanical Engineering requires less math classes.
@MehdiVideos369 sorry I ran out of characters but I know you said all Engineering majors are hard but does Mechanical Engineering require less math classes in college?
@MehdiVideos369 Computer engineering is equal parts computer design and computer programming. I am an electrical engineer, but only a few credits distinguish me between computer and electrical (many programs lump them together in an "electrical and computer engineering"). The convergence of electrical and mechanical is exciting. "Mechatronics" requires experience in both disciplines. I did my senior project in the Mechanical engineering department and loved combining both sides.
@toddsierer i want to be a computer , electrical or mechanical engineer, but i heard that computer engineers have a harder time finding jobs , is this true?
@MehdiVideos369 I am starting college this fall and I am going for a degree in mechanical but I want to do a little bit of all the other types also. My goal is to team up with some other engineers from other majors and get together during our spare time to collaborate on some ideas for projects. Then we develop those ideas, on a collective budget, into a marketable product that we could sell to small businesses in the area. When I leave college I should already be self employed.
@OrdinaryComment sorry I ran out of characters also but the people are getting laid off after years of work, the shuttle program was ended, and borders is advertising they're going out of business sale. I dont want to have to look for a job in this economy even if its for NASA. A group of engineers at google designed a car that drives itself. If the engineers working for google had a choice in the matter the public would already be counting down the days until a manufacturer sells the first car
You've raised my hopes of someday becoming an electrical engineer. I'm nervous because of all the intense math I'm going to have to learn soon. I was even thinking of switching majors (I know right, what a coward). But after watching this vid, I've decided to stick with electrical engineering give it a shot. Thanks
We need more scientists and engineers! They are the innovators, inventors, and problem solvers that make the dreams of the future a reality! They are the driving force of the economy!
@mbaldwin1618 Do more scientists and engineers mean more innovation being produced? Or simply wages going down? How about business majors who try to commercialize ideas and create jobs for engineers and scientists?
@jellovendigar -First of all, innovation isn't produced. Innovation refers to the process of producing new things. And in general, if there is a larger pool of talented scientists/engineers, then yes faster technological progress will ensue (and the field will become more competitive). Business majors are useful people and industry needs them, but lets face it, they don't really do or know shit.
@mbaldwin1618 Not responding to the pedantic attitude on the usage of "innovation" But do you think that a large pool of scientists/engineers magically create innovation? They are only part of the process, and not the most critical part either. (seeing the need and acting on it)
Besides a community needs a lot of other roles that will support this infrastructure. (entrepreneurs, managers, blue collars, lawyers, politicians, high school math teachers, bankers, venture capitalists etc.)
@jellovendigar. I'm not detracting the importance of all occupations. Its probably because I'm obsessed with technology and biotech that I feel drawn to the cutting edge. The knowledge of science and "how to" in my opinion is what revolutionizes the world. Just read about Ray Kurzweil (or watch his TED videos), or the J Craig Venter Institute, or the Blue Brain Project, hell even Intel's 3D processors. An idea is the most powerful thing in the world (cue inception music)....
@mbaldwin1618 Who can deny the marvels of all the tech that has been produced till now and being produced as we speak? Personally I'm quite obsessed as well. I tried to point out to some other complexities and how different roles combine to create what we call success, at anything.
@T12ISC engineers make more money than doctors and lawyers depending on how far u take your degree and combinations if u have a master in engineering and a mba after 5- 10 yrs u be making ver 150k for sure some even 400k plus .source uncle and cousins me imma a student atm
@TheArabassist im in Cardiff, doing Mechanical, i think for my major Australia or south America worths trying, but i think for chemical eng, if your interested in petrolium industry, some middle eastern countries like UAE or Qatar are good. its kinda hard living in a muslim country though.
@setare1369 well I am an Arab so the last point doesn't matter much. I don't think it's easy getting a placement in a middle eastern country - they prefer Europeans with experience before coming over. I want to pursue a career in the UK so British experience would be optimal.
Ok any marine scout sniper reading this, please give this guy a 7.62 mm nudge in the apricot, or a .50 cal, I am not picky, because this guy is gonna make the robots that will try to rise against us, it is time for some profilactic shooting. Just kidding kinda, seriously though dude, no robots please, every time I see one I want to shoot it just to make sure, screw the zombie apocalypse, the robot apocolypse can be stopped right now. By the way, I am going to school to become an engineer.
@Jeremiah90526 Dude, the robots made your clothes, your food and your car. They have become a part of our life a long time ago and they go mad only in naive movies.
And they even try to pass off economics as a science to legitimize their stupid, inferior career choice. ECONOMICS NEVER HAS BEEN AND NEVER WILL BE A SCIENCE!!!!
So now I am forced to take some demeaning job. Factory assembly, fast food restaurants, and retail stores turn me away because I am "overqualified."
My demeaning job will probably be my own business filming webcam girls. Who would have thought I would not have been allowed to use my brains and instead rot away on something so trivial.
Engineering is fine if you have a relative or friend that helps you get in. This is not the case with me. I can not get interviews, despite having an EE degree PLUS experience 10 years.
Unemployment among American engineers is high. They wasted too much time and money for chasing a dream that they never really had a chance in obtaining--that was my case.
Colleges should only let in enough students to replace the available engineering jobs.
i've been an engineer for 5 years and i used to think like that but i wouldn't brag about it and say i'm better than you. people need marketers if they want the engineer's product to sell, people need economists to make sure operations are happening within budget. everyone values different things, there is no right or wrong answer, to say that everybody else sucks implies that you are trying to justify yourself for shortcomings that have reduced your social status.

How do I become an engineer even if I not really good at math? I am really looking for a change!
MrRuva44 3 months ago
@MrRuva44 Anyone can be good at math because its logical (most of the time lol). Just practice and practice and study and practice....
breezybaggins 3 months ago
@MrRuva44 You only need math while you're in school but once you're out in the industry, the math is not as intensive. You should go for it if you have an interest in engineering regardless of your math level. You just need to take it one step at a time as any type of engineering degree is sequential.

That would take care of CEO's and politicans, banker's etc.
doire7 5 months ago 60
@doire7 What we need is more than a law, we need a whole new sytem. Socialism is answer. A shame there's so much empty rpopaganda against it. And no, i'm not a stalinist.
Lan5in6 4 months ago

@doire7 I got a solution burn all B-schools !
alienkishorekumar 2 months ago

I don't know
chunkyazian 6 months ago
@chunkyazian You got a degree from a top tier school? Damb I got mine at a State College and I can't find any job I am starting to think it wasn't worth it. I found it fun in college working on projects and learning engineering. But, the ultimate goal to survive is to have money. Engineers up to the top 25% in income in the United States the average 80k/yr if you have a job. Average income in the usa is 46k/yr. 0.1% make i think 1.5mill and 2.5% make 250k. I'm going to try to teach math.

neophytetroll 6 months ago
@neophytetroll i don't know i mean i want to do computer engineering but i feel like it's boring or will get boring real fast , which type of engineering builds robots.
MehdiVideos369 6 months ago
@MehdiVideos369 Mechatronics sounds interestings as it combines Mechanical engineering, Electronic engineering, Computer engineering, Software engineering, Control engineering, and Systems Design engineering in order to design, and manufacture useful products. Industrial robots for example. That's my opinion, you can look it up on some websites that the government has, also on wikipedia for reference.
neophytetroll 6 months ago
@neophytetroll Actually I was just looking at a youtube video on Mechatronics and it sounds pretty cool when I first saw it, nothing that was boring or anything of the sort.
neophytetroll 6 months ago
@toddsierer i know this sounds like a dumb question but which engineering isn't that hard and is also interesting and is also tech. related, can you help me please? thank you
MehdiVideos369 6 months ago
@MehdiVideos369 No engineering discipline in easy (except for Civil...those guys are idiots). You have to pay the cost to be the boss!
toddsierer 6 months ago
@toddsierer I mean i want to study computer engineering but Computers aren't the only thing i would like to build i'd like to build for example robots or something people will find useful and would pay big money for. I want to create new technology. so I'm kind of stuck between picking Electrical, Computer and Mechanical. what is mechanical engineering about and would you say it's easier than computer and electrical engineering? I heard Mechanical Engineering requires less math classes.
MehdiVideos369 6 months ago
@MehdiVideos369 sorry I ran out of characters but I know you said all Engineering majors are hard but does Mechanical Engineering require less math classes in college?
MehdiVideos369 6 months ago
@MehdiVideos369 Computer engineering is equal parts computer design and computer programming. I am an electrical engineer, but only a few credits distinguish me between computer and electrical (many programs lump them together in an "electrical and computer engineering"). The convergence of electrical and mechanical is exciting. "Mechatronics" requires experience in both disciplines. I did my senior project in the Mechanical engineering department and loved combining both sides.
toddsierer 6 months ago
@toddsierer i want to be a computer , electrical or mechanical engineer, but i heard that computer engineers have a harder time finding jobs , is this true?
MehdiVideos369 6 months ago
@MehdiVideos369 I am starting college this fall and I am going for a degree in mechanical but I want to do a little bit of all the other types also. My goal is to team up with some other engineers from other majors and get together during our spare time to collaborate on some ideas for projects. Then we develop those ideas, on a collective budget, into a marketable product that we could sell to small businesses in the area. When I leave college I should already be self employed.
OrdinaryComment 6 months ago
@OrdinaryComment sorry I ran out of characters also but the people are getting laid off after years of work, the shuttle program was ended, and borders is advertising they're going out of business sale. I dont want to have to look for a job in this economy even if its for NASA. A group of engineers at google designed a car that drives itself. If the engineers working for google had a choice in the matter the public would already be counting down the days until a manufacturer sells the first car
OrdinaryComment 6 months ago
You've raised my hopes of someday becoming an electrical engineer. I'm nervous because of all the intense math I'm going to have to learn soon. sonia24t 7 months ago
We need more scientists and engineers! They are the innovators, inventors, and problem solvers that make the dreams of the future a reality! They are the driving force of the economy!
mbaldwin1618 8 months ago
@mbaldwin1618 Do more scientists and engineers mean more innovation being produced? Or simply wages going down? How about business majors who try to commercialize ideas and create jobs for engineers and scientists?
jellovendigar 7 months ago
@jellovendigar -First of all, innovation isn't produced. Innovation refers to the process of producing new things. And in general, if there is a larger pool of talented scientists/engineers, then yes faster technological progress will ensue (and the field will become more competitive). Business majors are useful people and industry needs them, but lets face it, they don't really do or know shit.
mbaldwin1618 7 months ago
@mbaldwin1618 Not responding to the pedantic attitude on the usage of "innovation" But do you think that a large pool of scientists/engineers magically create innovation? They are only part of the process, and not the most critical part either. (seeing the need and acting on it)
Besides a community needs a lot of other roles that will support this infrastructure. (entrepreneurs, managers, blue collars, lawyers, politicians, high school math teachers, bankers, venture capitalists etc.)
jellovendigar 7 months ago
@jellovendigar. I'm not detracting the importance of all occupations. Its probably because I'm obsessed with technology and biotech that I feel drawn to the cutting edge. The knowledge of science and "how to" in my opinion is what revolutionizes the world. Just read about Ray Kurzweil (or watch his TED videos), or the J Craig Venter Institute, or the Blue Brain Project, hell even Intel's 3D processors. An idea is the most powerful thing in the world (cue inception music)....
mbaldwin1618 7 months ago
@mbaldwin1618 Who can deny the marvels of all the tech that has been produced till now and being produced as we speak? Personally I'm quite obsessed as well. I tried to point out to some other complexities and how different roles combine to create what we call success, at anything.
jellovendigar 7 months ago

PatriotARR1 10 months ago
Engineering is fine if you have a relative or friend that helps you get in. This is not the case with me. I can not get interviews, despite having an EE degree PLUS experience 10 years.
Unemployment among American engineers is high. They wasted too much time and money for chasing a dream that they never really had a chance in obtaining--that was my case.
Colleges should only let in enough students to replace the available engineering jobs.
Why help create such a high unemployment rate?
