You either have to be born on U.S. soil or have 2 parents who are U.S. citizens to be eligible to run for president.

McCain was born on the Canal zone in Panama but both of his parents were American. Therefore he was allowed to run. This was put into place so that the children of deployed soldiers would not be denied their rights as Americans to run for President.

Your rationale doesn't even make sense, back when the constitution was written families never deployed with soldiers. McCain was born in the Panama Canal but that was US territory. It was founded after it broke away from Colombia with the help of the U.S. In exchange for the U.S. help, Panama allowed the U.S. to control the Panama Canal up until 2000. The U.S. then withdrew all troops from the canal zone and turned over to the Panamanian government.
