Hey dashama! Your very good and seem to know alot about this topic: I'm trying to get my splits down I am less then 2 centimeters away. I need to get these for gymnastics..........SOON! Any tips? I have watched other videos and I do stretches every day, but nothing seems to work! :(
I used to think I was flexible until today's challenge. I was sore from soccer practice and my hips and thighs felt uncomfortable until I did this routine at home. Oh boy, it was a challenge, but it helped a lot thanks!
i can't even do most of these stretches without it burning so bad i have to stand up from them too quick! althougjh they really good, it just shows how stiff i am for a 21 yr old!! i go gym muscle building and looks like this need to be fitted into my schedule..

In the wide-legged forward fold, I find it effective to place a bolster/2 lofty pillows in front of my torso and gradually lie on it......it frees up more tension and I can stay in the pose longer, i.e. Yin. Just a tip for those of us who are chronically tight in these pelvic/inner thigh areas.

It seems like not many people explain how to feel the energy running through the body. I am very interested in using Yoga not only as an exercise but to improve the flow of Chi through the Chakras. Is there a certain school of Yoga I should be looking to? I hope my question isn't too vague. I know different terms are used but the concept seems to be much the same
@MahouOtoko .. I think chi flows better in the well conditioned body with flexibility and good muscle condition. Yoga helps you to reach just that state of well being. So, any yoga will help Chi or energy flow better in your body. You just need to work all parts or muscle groups of your body for the Chi to flow in your whole body..namaste :-)

@bokitademicha hi angel, yoga won't make your breasts shrink any more then any other method of exercise. i have always been slim and yoga didn't make me this way.. it can help you tone up, but in general, you will need to incorporate diet and cardio to see dramatic fat reduction.
@bokitademicha The only way to get "toned" is to lose weight. Women first lose weight from their breasts and last from their hips. You cannot target where you lose weight. You cannot spot reduce. If you believe you are the right weight, then you need to do less cardio and more strength training.

Cool exercise, I was only able to stretch 30% of the way. I could not go completely flat as my belly says nein. I will use this video for stretching in the morning before going to work. I need to increase my leg strength too avoid pain in my left knee. Do you have any suggestions for me? I would appreciate any exercise tips, thx -Z.
I am trying to get more flexible and have never been so stiff! I love these positions and it proves to be working! I added this to my daily routine, though I do it frequently, and in just two days I am beginning to see results- I can touch my toes without bending my knees! You can't get all flexible just by doing yoga exercises, sometimes; you need to practice, the more you can; if you don't feel like it, remember that's the reason why you really should exercise with yoga!

This video instruction is good - very good, and believe you should do more of them, I'm doing Yoga again and your instruction was excellent, thanks. This is my favorite segment of your Jan '09 30-day-challenge so far. These thigh openers are challenging and I like the pace of your instruction. I'm very glad you talk us through all the moves, and for both sides, instead of just saying, "Repeat, and do again on other side." After this ten minute segment my legs felt very loose and relaxed. I'll definitely revisit this clip often, especially after a run!

I think I'm gradually gaining inner thigh flexibility, but I feel discomfort/ burning in my knees that makes it hard to complete these exercises. Is this normal? It's like these routines are harder on my knees than my thighs :( I feel the burning with any squat/ lunge-type exercise.
Burning in your knees? Do you mean the muscles around the knees or the actual tendons and joint?
Engage your quadriceps more and draw upon the strength from your core, breath and legs, to alleviate some effort from you knees. Let me know how that helps.
@dashama I think it's the muscles. I feel the burning over the top of the knee cap...the most during the third stretch (where you walk your hands toward feet) and the fourth one (90 degree angle knee bend). I think I will either disregard these two stretches or take breaks/straighten legs in between. Thank you! Breathing and focusing on core does help.
@dashama i'm focusing on legs, back and shoulder flexibility exersizes and i shaw some of your videos to help me and they really did.. I stretch myself 4 days a week 2 hours a day doing exersizes for legs and shoulders mostly and back. Is it better to do each part separatley or is it fine as i do it? and 2nd, what's the diffrence of taking big breaths to breathing naturaly? pls reply, i would really appreciate it
@dashama I have the problem whenever I work on inner thighs too. It feels like it's the joint. Although I have heard that that's a common problem with people who are tight in their hip joint so maybe once I fix that problem it will go away. I don't really know
Also, when you lunge, modify from how dashama does it by always keeping your knee in line or slightly behind your second toe, NEVER beyond it. This is a vital modification to keeping your knees healthy. Practice this when doing warrior 2 etc as well. Then, you and your legs can benefit from yoga for many years!

i already know how to do this concidering i am in pittsbergh superstars. i am a cheerleader. but u look like u could be one to if u do a little bit more stunts. and if u get other people with u to cradle like somthing really exciting so i dont get bored out of my mind also i am not trying to be a les. or something but u are a very pretty girl though!

This is my favorite segment of your Jan '09 30-day-challenge so far. These thigh openers are challenging and I like the pace of your instruction. I'm very glad you talk us through all the moves, and for both sides, instead of just saying, "Repeat, and do again on other side." After this ten minute segment my legs felt very loose and relaxed. I'll definitely revisit this clip often, especially after a run!

I think I'm gradually gaining inner thigh flexibility, but I feel discomfort/ burning in my knees that makes it hard to complete these exercises. Is this normal? It's like these routines are harder on my knees than my thighs :( I feel the burning with any squat/ lunge-type exercise.

Burning in your knees? Do you mean the muscles around the knees or the actual tendons and joint?
Engage your quadriceps more and draw upon the strength from your core, breath and legs, to alleviate some effort from you knees. Let me know how that helps.

@dashama I think it's the muscles. I feel the burning over the top of the knee cap...the most during the third stretch (where you walk your hands toward feet) and the fourth one (90 degree angle knee bend). I think I will either disregard these two stretches or take breaks/straighten legs in between. Thank you! Breathing and focusing on core does help.

@dashama i'm focusing on legs, back and shoulder flexibility exersizes and i shaw some of your videos to help me and they really did.. I stretch myself 4 days a week 2 hours a day doing exersizes for legs and shoulders mostly and back. Is it better to do each part separatley or is it fine as i do it? and 2nd, what's the diffrence of taking big breaths to breathing naturaly? pls reply, i would really appreciate it

@dashama I have the problem whenever I work on inner thighs too. It feels like it's the joint. Although I have heard that that's a common problem with people who are tight in their hip joint so maybe once I fix that problem it will go away. I don't really know

Also, when you lunge, modify from how dashama does it by always keeping your knee in line or slightly behind your second toe, NEVER beyond it. This is a vital modification to keeping your knees healthy. Practice this when doing warrior 2 etc as well. Then, you and your legs can benefit from yoga for many years!
