I saw Guleghina as Tosca a few seasons ago, here in Houston. It was one of the best diva performances of recent years. Nonetheless, it's evident that she's a hit-or-miss artist. This Lady Macbeth performance is squally, to say the lest.

She´s got a bit of Dimitrova in her sound, but Dimitrova HAD the high sustained notes..LOUD as HELL but she did..and Dimitrova could pull out some amazing pianos, summung up...Dimitrova sounded WAY MORE polished than Guleghina, that is constantly only singing really loud, outbursts..and that gets boring after a while..it´s like...ok bitch...I know you can yell!!!

Guleghina...por Guleghina...she does not have HIGH notes/coloratura for a dramatico/coloratura role..I´ve seen other recordings, she´s ALWAYS FLAT on the sustained high notes..and the runs are a failure. Well, she´s in the MET..what can I say...

i have to add: i went to the premiere of this at the Liceu, and the voices of guleghina and alvarez were amazing live, thats why the people celebrate so much both singers. But the worst thing on the production was the mediocre conduction of Bruno campanella, who offered a slow and flat performance, that was paid back with the audience booing at his curtain call. He influenced on this odd singing from guleghina, definitely!

So you watched this production? Great...I´d imagine Guleghina´s voice can be impressive, but it seems to be from all her Normas, Macbeth, Abigaille posted here that she´s not gifted vocally (range, coloratura +finesse and elegance) to sing these Dramatico Coloratura roles. On the other hand I like her verismo side, which suits her capabilities so well. I dunno why she´s singing Norma or lady Macbeth..it is just terrible. anyway...

i completely agree with you, but i'm still confident she will get a good version of these roles. im still waiting to have her ideal macbeth and Norma. Btw, i love her Odabella, and her Abigaille, i like!
