tongues is supposed to edify the church, is supposed to glorify God such as miracles and prophesying etc... we have to remember God is a God of order and not confusion. if people are going to "speak and tongues" and at the end of the day not learn anything spiritual which brings you closer to God through his words then it is not of God. ummm... i think you misunderstood my last comment, you wrote that talking against an unblibical thing such as speaking in tongues is blasphemy against the Holy Spirit and i clarify that by saying that lying TO the Holy Spirit is blasphemy against him thus acts 5:3. you misunderstood entirely what i was explaining about blasphemy. 1 Corinthians 1-11: read the whole context of that chapter and i dare you to replace tongues with languages and see if that makes more sense.

tongues is supposed to edify the church, is supposed to glorify God such as miracles and prophesying etc... we have to remember God is a God of order and not confusion. if people are going to "speak and tongues" and at the end of the day not learn anything spiritual which brings you closer to God through his words then it is not of God. God doesn't call the qualified, he qualifies the called. When we fully surrender our lives to Jesus and let him change our lives to fully follow him in obedience and love, then will we receive the fruit of the spirit and from there will we perform the gifts of the spirit. The bible doesn't state that you have to train to receive the gifts of the spirit. Where would the Glory of God and His divinity be known if it was possible to achieve the gifts our sinful selves?

All I know is that i have experienced the holy ghost healed, and delivered people and the holy ghost is real whether you want to believe it or not. Growing up pentacostal myself and having studied the Bible personally, I would have to agree with TheMard. My question is: How is this edifying? I strongly doubt Jesus would have anything to do with something like this. There's a reason why Paul writes in 1 Cor. 14:9 "But in the church I would rather speak five intelligible words to instruct others than ten thousand words in a tongue"

Yes, but it also states somewhere (and I haven't read the Bible in years, but I remember this) that speaking in tongues isn't for the edification of man. Speaking in tongues is useless in groups. When done in private, it can be quite gratifying.
Also, I did NOT grow up as a Pentecostal, but I was raised as a Catholic, and I am considered a charismatic.
