  • RIP Scott Kalitta and Headphone users at 1:47

  • D!ablow...q mal pro scott kalita"s corria super duroo....!!!!!!

  • thanks for putting this up , We all miss him down here in Florida , and love his mom and dad too.

  • The burst plate shut-off systems were mandated AFTER Scott's accident. Before then, only a couple of cars had them. The system was developed by the Worsham's.

    (Happy Retirement, Del)

  • rip

  • I find top fuelers and funny cars terrifying. I'll stick to my muscle-cars....

  • anyone who takes part in any type of racing is putting their life on the line each and every time they step into their race car. Its just all part of the sport.

  • this is similar to jd mcduffies fatal crash, both caused by catastrophic failure of the brakes systems

  • The brakes were fine. Scott was knocked unconscious by the concussion of the engine explosion, and was unable to deploy the chutes,or work the handbrake The improvements of safety didn't just stop with shortening the track for the Fuel Cars..a burst-panel shut-off system was also mandated. In the event of an explosion, the wiring on the burst-panels (either on the blower or on the body) breaks...this automatically deploys the chutes, kills the magneto, and closes the fuel valve.

  • @thevmanvj His chutes did deploy an instant before the engine blew up and they got burnt to shit an instant after the engine blew up. They did nothing to slow the car down from +300mph, If that is not a catastrophic failure of the breaking system then I do not know the definition of catastrophic failure. He was coasting down the track cutting off fuel and killing the spark would have done nothing to prevent this because a blown engine does not burn fuel.

  • I was referring to the carbon fiber brakes that were controlled by the handbrake. If Scott got on the handbrake the tires would've been bouncing...they weren't. As for a blown engine burning fuel that is not even remotely accurate. The compression is very low,no more than 7.25-1, with only 3 rings, so a fair portion of fuel (pumping 150+ gpm),blows past the pistons, and into the pan, diluting that thick SAE-70 wt oil with Nitro. If you kick out a connecting rod...you have a bomb!

  • @thevmanvj how would that have kept his engine from blowing to high hell? You even said it yourself "in the event of an explosion" that system would have closed the fuel lines and cut all power to the spark plugs after the engine blew up, how would that have helped him at all?

  • @thevmanvj not only did he lose the chutes the expolosion seperated the chasis from the car body, the brakes on those cars don't work for shit when there is no downforce on the chasis. He lost all his brakes that is why you do not see the tires bouncing.

  • what kind of material do they use to make the chutes

  • That car isnt that fu nny anymore..

  • @TerdFurgesonHD Not cool dude

  • They all know the risks, and they decide it is worth it. It's not an accident or a tragedy, its the inevitable outcome of the way he decided to live his life. He didnt go out there to be safe, he went out there to race.

Frankly, I'm not sad that he died. I'm happy that he won.

  • thiis is why i buy and run chevrolet ONLY!

  • @johnkitchbitch considering that NO top fuel cars run a Chevy engine, your statement means nothing. They all run an engine based entirely on the Chrysler 426 HEMI.

  • @ProfessorIgor exactly, he is saying he wants to only run a chevy because he does not want to own a dodge or chrysler and have something similar to this happen, even though it is highly unlikely since no one uses nitro on the streets

  • @ocsurfer23 considering this is a "Toyota Celica" you make no sense either...

  • @ProfessorIgor I'm sure that its running a Toyota celica engine, jackass. These engines are based on 426 hemi engines but are bored and stroked to 500 cubes instead

  • @ocsurfer23 you don't get sarcasm, do you ? notice I put Toyota Celica in quotes ?? In reality, the engines they run are based on the 426 hemi, but there's no boring or stroking of anything. These are entirely purpose built, BILLET aluminum block engines. There isn't a stock part on these cars. Not one bolt, nut or washer. So before you get all huffy calling me a jackass, READ my comments twice so they have time to sink in, m'kay ?

  • It looks like his engine blows disabling the brakes/parachute, its like he totally over runs the track unable to stop and he hits the wall? is that right? Jeez..poor guy, what a terrible accident....RIP Scott.

  • so how exactly did it happen?

  • Cooked in a 2000 degree fireball, arms and legs ripped off and big block c/w blower rammed up his arse. Its the way he would have wanted to go...

  • @Draxindustries1 Dude, I guess you think your comment is so great that you had to post it on at least 2 videos on Scott Kalitta's fatal accident. Are you proud of writing about a guy's arms ripped off and a blower rammed up his "arse"?? Do you really think you added something of value to this conversation? You might want to take a hard look at yourself and your actions. And you're 47 years old, too?? Time to grow up, sir.

  • @naderchaser Just looked at this and dont know a thing about it. im not even remotely interested in drag racing and have made no such comments even though its appearing under my username. It appears theres also other bad taste comments on other videos too.

Before you say someone else has used my computer etc, i'm the only one who has access to it so it would appear youtube is just yet another insecure site....

  • @Draxindustries1 Well then, if you didn't write the comments, then I apologize to you. But whomever did write it....they're not right in the mind.

You might wish to check into how those comments could have been made under your name.

  • @MiniBikeOutlaws thanks for the info.

  • would he have qualified with his time if he hadn't crashed and burned?

  • What a day...I was in the NHRA press box suite right behind the starting line that day just eating and drinking myself to boredom when this happened...My dad is Bill Stephens, and we were both beside ourselves when we heard the news. Rest in peace.

  • @Ufosrcool24 Your dad is Bill Stephens? Awesome!

  • @WeDieYoung1083 Yup! Not always fun when he's away half the time but it has its advantages :D

  • @Ufosrcool24 No disrespect, but I don't know who Bill Spephens is. I've been following NHRA from a spectator's standpoint for 40 yrs.

Why were you bored? Do you not like drag racing that much?

  • dude shit happens R.I.P SCOTT KALITTA.

  • @multi666123 it happened for a reason.

  • Hard to believe that when you hit that record button, 2 minutes later he was going to die... RIP Scott Kalitta

  • i was at this race and omg it was sooo intense

  • Why would you cut the video right there? 0 stars

  • respect

  • Im friends with this guys son, and it was really sad. R.I.P.

  • what fuck head plays chess ? that shit is to fucking hard haha, rip scott ! my crash was nearly half as bad as yours

  • Tony Barton

  • who was he racing against???

  • Comment removed

  • Spoken like a true New Yorker.

  • you have no idea the thrill you get from the speed. you jerk this man loved racing and i'm sure if he could he would still be racing. A**

  • So, if people suddenly started to die of high speed Chest-osis, what should be do, oh great wise one?

  • u cant even get famous off of chess, u just get looked at as a pussy

  • you are a fuckin retard

  • No. I'd say about half the fans hope for a crash. I'm just trying to save lives.

Chess is a great sport and you don't even have to break a sweat, and the fans are not muching hot dogs.

  • Honestly, you are completely retarded.

  • @georgegrasser I've been around drag racing since 1966. I truly do not believe that even a small percentage of the crowds that watch it want to see a wreck. Perhaps that's the case in circle-track racing....I don't know, and I hope not. But drag race fans, both men and women....just love to hear the sounds and see the sights of machines running at their limits. Drag racing fans are also the most docile and respectful fans, too. Only in drag racing can spectators walk up to the big name cars.

  • i suppose we should have just played chess instead of going to the moon as well. it would have been much safer.

  • georgegrasser - Different people have a different idea of fun. Chess is your thing, but it isn't ours. Respect the way others choose to spend their time.

  • this is y u r a loser and do nuthing, i am a drag racer also and i know its dangerous but its a sport i love, anybody that does race loves it too, so u can just stfu and play a real mans sport

  • No offense to anyone, but think about it! What are they going to do if someone else dies? Shorten the race even more? Make them go slower? Make racing so boring that nobody wants to watch anymore...like NASCAR?

  • dude shut the fuck up. you know nothing about drag racing

  • All the environazis will ban all motor sports. All you will see is electric and solar powered drag and NASCAR races. Think about it. A drag race will take as long a a nascar race. Nascar will have one race a year. The Daytona 365 (add 1 for leap years).

  • It pisses me off that they're still limiting races to 1000ft even a year after this happened. It's fucking racing! It's dangerous! It's always been dangerous! Get over it already!

  • i felt really bad for doug after this, im glad he kept on racing without his bro

  • dude, have some respect for the dead, this video contained a man who lost his life. He shall never be forgotten by friends, family, and the racing community. R-I-P

  • @yoitsjoesmoe He took a risk and lost it. There is nothing to feel bad about. He wasn't doing anything important or heroic anyway. Just a guy trying to have fun and make money dangerously

  • @quazimutato your a fucking faggot you disrespectful peice of crap

  • Go blow it out your well-worn ass you chop-stick licker!!!!

  • @quazimutato dude stfu your nothing but a fkking hater that is all you fucking do faggot

  • r.i.p. scott one of the nhras current best hope the family well

  • R.I.P

  • Hey man what can you say besides ouch... Scott knew that he was doing something dangerous and he loved it. That's just part of the sport, accidents are just going to happen.

  • @passionracer You my friend are very stupid

  • i was at mir when i heard the news sucks he was my dads favorite driver

  • Anyone know exactly where he blew up at? No one take this the wrong way but I hope it was before a thousand feet. It would make for a good anti-thousand feed argument. And RIP Scott he was one of my favorite drivers.

  • R.I.P SCOTT!!!!

  • he lived down the street from me. ive been to his house with his son before

  • sad,i hit 2 events this year and seen him.i can't imagine how you guys felt?

  • cancer today R,I,P missed Bernie Mac Again Miss Well Hit

  • scott was good friends with my mom cause she worked with the NHRA staff and crew.

  • who ???

  • I was in shock when my dad told me he died. I was a wreck all the way through the following morning. R.I.P. Scott!!! We'll all miss u a lot.

  • So what happened.

  • from what ive heard, when the engine exploded, he was knocked out cold and was unable to open his parachutes or apply the brakes, there is a concrete pole at the end of the sandtrap and he hit that and thats what caused the car to have the bigger explosion and causing his untimely death.

  • Well, the chutes did deploy, but they were burnt to a crisp, and didn't function.

  • hey dude... watch it from espns point of veiw... he got the chutes out........ they got tangled and he couldnt slow it down at all

  • where do i find that one???

  • not trying to be a smart alek but i think his chutes malfunctioned and didn't slow him down and then he hit the pole

  • actuyally he didnt hit a "pole", on this track as on many beyond teh sand pit some idiot thought it'd be great to slow down dragracers with a giant concrete wall, it took ad eath but now all concrete walls have been replaced with netting similar to what aircraft carriers use to catch out of controll landing plains.

  • At Least He Won

  • wins and losses dont count in qualifying you moron

  • @fxb0412

that's just an fyi - doesn't mean much on paper but at least his family knows he died kicking ass in a drag race - better than remembering he probably cooked for 10 seconds before hitting the wall to end it all - that is one of the worst incidents I seen

  • my dad used to race at maple grove now he races at atco and cecil county

  • =[ in heaven now

  • Hey it's Kristin from Maple Grove! I don't know how you got this video, but I was there and it was a very sad day. Our heart goes out to his family

  • Its sad that he passed, but at least he went doing what he loved.
