My parents thought this music was garbage. I was just a kid in the early 60's and thought that the best music ever. Wasn't. I thought the same about soul music and post-Beatles psychadaelia. It wasn't. I loved the easy sounds of the 70's and even loved the early MTV days of rock. Each generation and each era will be claimed as the best by somebody, for as Billy Preston wrote: Everybody loves some kind of music.
Personally, I have gone back to the big band era. That's music for me.
The original, can't beat it. I remember hearing this in the late 60's/early 70's. Brings me back to that more innocent time in our development as a world.
South Carolina,..very early teens... living on a private lake... and this girl ...BKM....watching her during the summers turn into a perfect "10" ...I kept singing this song to her and she kept trying to drown me! Puppy love was real to the puppies. 'I think I could show her...over and over...'
@kingmonkeyballs don't you mean a time machine? a teleporter will only transport you from one place to another in present time. a time machine would bring you back (or forward) in time.
@kingmonkeyballs You wouldn't have your modern day gadgets. No microwave, cell phone, textinjg, IPod, computer, email, Facebook, etc. Just a rotarry telephone, television (perhaps in color), phonographic records and a typewritter. But people did actually talk to each other.
I grew up in the 60's and ;must have led a sheltered life,b/c I never realized that some of my favorite song were actually "drug:" songs.!I also grew up in CA.Go figure!
First heard on a large1930's valve radio pumped out at full vol., when the priest had his back turned. The Avengers caused equal waves on TV. Trippy days, but not all lazy hazy days of Summer.
@smilearthur i got so high in my brother's car as we drove through town. the part at the end made me think i was time traveling. an absolute treat for the senses.
@mrptchfrk I wanna live that time, you know? Living historical facts, cold war, go to a concert of Queen, Zeppelin, Elton John or maybe Woodstock. Leave my home listening musics like that everywhere. Living the hippie era, disco era, rock era, heavy metal era, punk era...Did you ever watched Dazed and Confused movie or Almost famous? I appreciate the modern times. The globalization, peace, computers, free musics, free book. Everything is easy today. But socially nowadays is a crap.
The first time I ever heard this song, was sitting on the curbstone in my neighborhood (1969). I was a young teenager, and one of my neighbors was driving his new car purchase home. I heard the deep throated exhaust, and looked up to see his new 1969 Plymouth GTX pulling up the street. A warm summer day with his his hardtop windows down , ....and Crimson & Clover blasting on his radio. What an era ...... Now we have Nissan Leafs, humming, ....and a deeply divided country.
@ALB437 I DO!!! This is great music!! I am not even from this era......i grew up on it thanks to my family who did...so yes people still DO sing this in 2011:)
@Grunt6869 I was there '67 - '68. My uncle was in country when I arrived with the 1st Cav ( Air mobile ). I was with CG Ron3 ( Market Time - Coastal Surveillance ). Also Gunfire Support with the 5" mount we had, when needed in support of some Army Ops ).
@thohunt I was in the Coast Guard from '65 to '69 and almost reupped into the Army. Talked to the recruiter, but then thought better of that plan. I have a shipmate who is one of the 7 Coasties on the wall. There are a lot of songs around here that brings back that time and place for sure.

@ViniciusFiocco Why not stay here, where you can listen to all of that music plus the plethora of music the modern scene has to offer? Why limit yourself to a single era, instead of learning from all of them?
@ViniciusFiocco well, might as well cope with what you got now, because life will be just as exciting, just look past the mainstream, you can't go back to the past.
@ViniciusFiocco while I appreciate these times and the music produced (like this) I would rather live now, where I was exposed to music like this as well as music that is produced today. Best of both worlds.
@enabledaaron THANK YOU! People complain about all the crap music thats out now. Im like WHO CARES its not like the music of the past just disappears! I can enjoy the few good songs that come out now and all the great music of the past.
Classic psychedlic track from a vastly underrated band. Great post. The first time my wife heard this on the radio, when the shimmery vocals start at the end, she thought there was a fault with the CD the DJ was playing. I corrected her. Great post!
I remember seeing tommy and the shondells doing this song in 1969 on tv on a saturday afternoon, he was wearing some cool looking pants that had spots like a leopard.
when I was a kid I had their greatest hits on tape and this is still one of my favorite songs EVER!!! One of the greatest things my parents ever did for me was to introduce me to Tommy James and the Shondells.
I'm a rock chick still listening to Suzi Quatro, The Runaways, The Stooges, Joan Jett & the Blackhearts... at the age of 23 and proud of it!
Possibly some of the most underrated of the glam rock groups of the Seventies. Not the way they do nowadays, but the way they did throughout the Seventies and Eighties.
Anyway, I have to say that Tommy James and the Shondells were one of the '60's top bands, captivating an entire generation of listeners with hits like "Crimson and Clover".
@123spiker123 Then surely you don't love the song. Tremolo on the breakdown vocals for 30 seconds hardly destroys the song, and matter of fact it is one of the things that made this song noteworthy and really stand out. The finishing breakdown, build-up, then fade is classic.
@21stCenturyDub ...I agree with the tremolo making this song stand out. We ran to the AM radio as little teens and turned it up just to hear the dreamy tremolo over and over. And I wasn't even'high'.

I just loved the music of my generation when this kind of music was considered "trippy"... Lots more to come if you live long enough.
I read in his Bio that this "final": version was just a rough un finished cut that needed much more work and arrangements. It got pirated and put out to the public before he could put the finishing touches on this song. Wonder what it actually would of sounded like if he got a chance to finish it.
Quen viveu nesta epoca,ou ainda esta vivo, vai sentir muita saudades de musicas lindas como estas,eu vivi, ainda estou vivo pra curtir,e relembrar o passado lindo q esta musica me tra...
@GrIfFyDoG69, I am from Baltimore Joan Jetts hometown and only TJ and the Shondells do this song justice, and I absolutely love everything Joan has done.
i heard Prince sample this song, gotta say i really like both versions. =)
