I'd always regretted not seeing Journey with Steve Perry, but we went to the 2011 tour and Arnel was terrific. He's got the pipes to sing those songs, a depth of soul and voice, and bounded enthusiastically all over the stage. That said, no one could ever match Steve Perry- his interpretation and amazing voice created all these songs--I could listen to him sing forever. And thanks to digital--I can!!!

Great post! No one will ever surpass this man. Wasn't just his voice, but the fact that he co-wrote almost every single song that was ever a hit. If you look at the discography from Infinity he co-wrote all but a handful-and the fact that he alone had hit albums as a solo artist confirms his genius. Yeah, everybody knows that Journey's most successful years are the Steve Perry years! Steve is why the band is known! And they have basically tried to keep making money from the initial fame by hiring singers that sound like Steve! I don't begrudge them from continueing on they need to make a living. Incapable of singing falsetto all vocals are his true voice. Perry is grand but Anderson is also just as able to sing anything and make it sound great. Check out their 35th anniversary tour vids, awesome is the only word close to describing it.

When we hear his voice ...it's like oh my that's great, then you listen to more of his music, then you sing all the tunes along with him, then you realize that he's not on the stage and hasn't performed in over 13 years. I just spent sometime reading some of the comments. In an interview that Kevin S (caveman) just did he had said if Perry wanted to come back the band and management would do everything in they're power to make that happen. So that tells me that the band knows that Perry voice is what bought on all the success in that band. hmmm Perry has never said I'm coming out and releasing anything. He has a love hate with the songs he currently has written. Time will tell...

Great post! No one will ever surpass this man. Wasn't just his voice, but the fact that he co-wrote almost every single song that was ever a hit. If you look at the discography from Infinity he co-wrote all but a handful-and the fact that he alone had hit albums as a solo artist confirms his genius. The man is the total, perfectionist-and it shows in his passion for the music & craftsmanship-& in the classy way he comports himself & never trashes the old band members.

Another issue of Arnel. This is not a real voice. Philipino's are known to imitate singers, they are very good at it.. I bet if arnel worked at it he could sound like Rod Stewart or other rock stars. Whats left of Journey or Neal(who is just a greedy whore)just wanted a voice and he didnt care as long as he could continue as Journey. It was all about the money. Im glad everytime he plays a journey song, he has to pay Steve, because Steve is not only a great singer, but a savy businessman.

This is the most amazing song ever. My choir teacher brought his yearbook to school the other day.... AND HE WENT TO FREAKING SCHOOL WITH STEVE PERRY! He had always told me he did, but I never really believed him. I tootttaaalllyyy freaked out, me and this other chick. I almost started crying. I made the teacher photocopy it because I was dumb and chose the worst day in the world to forget my camera. -.- Steve looked the same... Just with MUCH shorter hair. Yeah, everybody knows that Journey's most successful years are the Steve Perry years! Steve is why the band is known! And they have basically tried to keep making money from the initial fame by hiring singers that sound like Steve! I don't begrudge them from continueing on they need to make a living. But Steve Perry is the voice and sound they will always try to capture with the lead singer. They're not dummies. :D

@Hatewhenthathappens Steve is the voice of JOURNEY but there is one who has more range and has been doing it longer. Jon Anderson of YES fame. One of the best alto tenors of all time. Incapable of singing falsetto all vocals are his true voice. Perry is grand but Anderson is also just as able to sing anything and make it sound great. Check out their 35th anniversary tour vids, awesome is the only word close to describing it.
