I agree it's pretty stupid how you can kill the creature and damage is still dealt even though the source is "instantly" gone. Very unintuitive. It also contradicts the first example of removing the Lifelink artifact. Why doesn't the game remember that the pinger dealt damage with lifelink?
The damage is still dealt because the ability is put onto the stack (LIFO) and will resolve as a normal spell exactly how it went onto the stack. Since the creature is no longer in play, the status of the damage is checked from the last known state of the card.
At the time the damage is dealt (the ability resolves) in the first example the creature dealing damage doesn't have the lifelink ability anymore so you don't gain the life.
The last existence on the battlefield thing is really annoying and unneeded. I'm going to play my friends without that rule, because it makes no sense at all
Lifelink doesn't stack with itself, but a creature with "When (Creature) deals damage, gain that much damage in life." can have lifelink stack with it.
For example, Kejelderon Gargoyle (3/3 Flying;first strike; and ability mentioned above) is equipped with loxodon warhammer. When it flies over to deal damage, you gain 12 life, 6 for one ablity, and 6 for lifelink.
I did. Good call. If the creature has the keyword "Lifelink" it wouldn't stack because that is redundent. But when a creature has "gain life", it's not the same as lifelink.
Sure I'm going to be arguing people who won't agree @ the next FNM lol.
Because its ability has been activated and is on the stack.
It will still resolve after the Doomblade has resolved. You could cast a card called Stifle ,which if it was played last would resolve first , and could counter the pyromancer's ability which is still on the stack.
because lifelink creature deals damage to the blocking creature. you gain life when creatures with lifelink dealt damage to the creature or player. Lifelink - damage dealt by this creature also causes you to gain that much life.
try to imagine of a street fight, 2 people fight each other - they hit one another.
oh and it does the same thing if you block an attacking creature with lifelink creature too. it deals damage to the attacking creature causing you to gain that much life.
It seems as though you don't understand what the word redundant means...
It means to do something for a second time (or more) without any additional effect.
Also if you look at the rules they state that Lifelink is now redundant. For instance first strike has been a redundant ability forever as has trample, flying and more.
Please grabs the role book and a dictionary before telling me I'm wrong.
Lifelink + linklink = ONE lifelink. In other words, it's redundant.
Actually, what the dictionary tells us in first place for redundant is "superfluous". Meaning it would be pretty useless to have, which it clearly isn't.
If the intended use for your example was different, I've misunderstood you, sorry. I can assure you though, that I'm quite clear on how the rules work.
can you target specific creatures with other creatures when you attack?

Wait, I thought you couldn't use tap abilities during your opponents turn, right?
By the way, where the hell do I find this playmat?

Wouldn't tht be stacking the lifelink? I don't think you're right on that.

Wavedasher20 2 years ago
In the new rules 5 points, in the old rules 10.

5 life is gained; lifelink no longer stacks.

5 Because Lifelink doesn't stack anymore.

Does life link stack? I remember some games haveing triple life link from a warhammer, the black card life link and soul link. (yes it was brutal)

New rules no

Why didn't they change the last part? If the pyromancer was destroyed, how could it still deal damage?...

@MonolMaster: But it still deals damage, not to the player, but e. g. to a creature.
Tandrial 2 years ago
Wait even if you block a creature with lifelink they still gain life? Doesn't make sense to be honest since how do you gain life if it was blocked?
MonolMaster 2 years ago
the whole point of lifelink is that you gain life equal to the damage it does. its still doing damage to the creature
hcortens 2 years ago

What happends if you equip Loxodon Warhammer with a Child of Night?
binarin 2 years ago
With lifelink now being a static ability it's effectiveness has been reduced to redundancy.
This means that if a 2/2 creature has Lifelink and Lifelink you will gain 2 life, not 4. The old way you would gain 4. The new way you get 2.
Rickits24 2 years ago
That hardly makes the ability redundant, just because you can no longer stack 5 Lifelinks on each other and swing for the win in some retarded combo.
IMHO it's a change for the better(though it certainly did not make the ability more powerful, as claimed in the video).
