  • Mars volta rocks, this performance doesn't =(

  • Well thats how they sound live

  • Cedric looks like Hermione Granger.

  • i lol'd

  • hay mijita no me llores porque te quito de esta cruz

  • ha.. toward the end is funny seeing cedric trying to keep up with thomas. they are totally flying top speed through the song there.

  • This is a show in honor of a car?

  • sleep908, the only way to describe the mars volta is a donkey choking a waffle. they're straight funk.

  • i don't know much about this band .. but is it me or does anyone else get a bit of a geddy lee vibe out of the singer's voice at times? and being a drummer .. i don't think he's overplaying .. he's playing something interesting .. which is a lot better than 99% of other recently famous drummers which play like they picked up a pair of sticks a week ago

  • THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • cedrics voice sounds kind of weird

he is an awesome vocalist but i wish that he doesnt use any effects on his mic

  • damn just listen to that groove.

  • you know nothing. there is obviously an effect on his voice throughout the song.

  • es un GENIO¡¡

    eso es¡¡¡

    this is the loco CKLAN

  • while i respect your opinon thomaas easily fit the band the best and was hte most creative and intense and had the best personalitly and while i love his singing and stage antics cedric is the reason thoms is no longer in the band.

  • Pridgen really detracted the musical essence from Volta.

He's a great drummer, but John Theodore really was the best drummer in Volta that actually had a good chemistry with the band and didn't have massive orgasms on the drums

  • I agree. Theodore had drive and taste in the band. Im not questioning pridgens abilities in terms of skill and tech. But he doesnt know when to fall back and actually think about his surroundings. I like to think that theodore was an arrangement just like any other instrument in the band. He had his parts. Pridgen is more concentrated on his flashiness and does the same groove every time. He totally took that volta taste out. Sad but true. =/

  • Pridgen is a lot like the Matt Bellamy of drums. Not knowing the term "subtle" at all.

  • thank you.

  • Comment removed

  • you're welcome lol

  • hahahaha, totally agreed!!!

  • I dont know about anyone else but Im happy to see Pridgen go, I thought he was too much out for himself - and it reflected in his contributions to Bedlem. Sort of like - 'look what i can do'. Too Van Halen vain of mentality. Volta need someone more sympathetic to its own style.

  • I agree. In this video, it almost seems like him and Omar are dueling for the spotlight.

  • i really dont believe so. his style isnt actually over the top. its not like hes squeezin fills in everywhere. he tends to play a lot of notes but it most certainly grooves.

  • that snare sounds fucking incredible

  • thomas isn't the reason i listen to them but like Juan and ikey hes a perk.

  • Pridgens solo is amazing!! :D

  • Dave Elitch, is as good as if not better than thomas, and their recent tour was phenomenal...

So if Thomas is the only reason you listen to the band you should listen to someone else...

  • Better than Pridgen? Do you play drums bro?

  • haha who cares, Theodore is still THE best mars volta's drummer

  • dave elitch will tell u himself that he is not as nor better than thomas, he is a very good drummer but thomas is in a league of his own. b4 u start telling ppl about themselves, do ur research buddy

  • yep. Simply amazing. This video is just great. They are great...

  • Technoboy.

    MC Ruffian.

    The Undersound.

    That. That is music.

  • agreed

  • holy shit omar has grown as a guitarist

  • yer it always seems as if omar and thomas got along....i mean have you seen the abbey road clip....i mean it just looks like they got along

  • fuckk does anyone know any details about why thomas was fired? cuz i really don't know much of anything about it.

  • he got in an argument with CEDRIC not Omar, and the rest is history as a performer in tmv u are not allowed to talk or criticize

  • thats so gay. i look at tmv diff. now...they lost an epic drummer

  • yeah, Omar was the one that invited Thomas to jam and try out with the band. I read somewhere he and Cedric were arguing over financial difficulties

  • It sucks Thomas is gone. It seemed like all of the band really enjoyed him except for Cedric. Like at 5:04 after Thomas went nuts, you could tell Juan and Omar were thinking "holy fuck, that was the best shit I've ever heard." Especially Omar judging on the look he gave Thomas.

  • Kind of seems like only yesterday this whole performance was captured..simply amazing..

  • Esperen esperen esperen un momentito ... Dijo ... "Quien era el más poderroso" al 1:30 ??? Con doble "r" !?!?!?

  • haha dude thats a pretty slick move cedric does at :41-:43

  • oh, that thomas pridgen.

    i want his left hand.

  • he uses that one for angry masturbation ya know...

  • they better get thomas back in there...

  • this is so extreme.

  • eh, then your not listening very well.

  • HOw is this sad? this is like the most rockin thing ever! like awsome!!

  • they only thing that is sad really is cedrics singing, i like his singinging but alot of the live videos i see hes not as good as he is in the ablum. all of the other players are amazing live tho compared to what they were years ago.

  • @AguyWITHstuff yeah, you know how the drummer got so much better here than he was on the record? he turned into someone else!! aaaahhh

  • @AguyWITHstuff no hate though, tmv never had a bad drummer ever, i just gotta show love to thomas

  • lol you have to know, im a singer and i do covers of mars volta with my band but the pich and the singing is really high you cant ruin your voice everytime he sings, and the songs last 6 minutes its a torture!! he has an amazing voice but i believe no human being can stand all of the songs...

  • holy shit that drummers fucking good

  • I love the album version, but this shit is falling apart so bad, it actually made me laugh.

  • i totally agree this is sad.

  • hahahahaha they are great perfoming live, they are the one of the only bands that really feel music alive they really feel it, and Cedric has an amazing voice.. the acoustic set you cant really apreciate how powerfull and melancholic voice he have..

  • Absolute sickest band out today

  • Thomas Pridgen is one of the sickest drummers to ever have lived.

  • Cedric can sing his ass off ftw!

  • i think by far mars volta's biggest flawi s the vocals they are horrible lol/

  • i miss Theodores grooves....

  • well, only on this song in perticular for me.

On the new album Pridgen does everything right IMHO...

  • To bad cedric would disapprove.

  • i would of started a pit

  • holy crap guitar solo. Also, I always thought the drummer looked a tiny bit like Atma Anur.

  • im not even a fan of mars volta but jesus christ, every member of this band mastered their instrument. fuckin sick.

  • people seem to ignore Omar's talent... listen to the guy shred! holy shit... Hendrix ain't got shit on Omar.

  • *facepalm* Hendrix > Omar guitar wise

    Both are innovators in music.

Because both are/were doing new things towards music I don't even like comparing them, rather just let respect be respect.

  • What a great groove!!!!!

  • this band is offically my new fav... this is some super sick shit right there! jesus!!!

  • whats with that aweful effect on his voice?

  • alright....i watched a video of thomas (drummer) playing a solo and to be honest, i thought he wasn't able to groove just a great technical solo player...HOLY SHIT WAS I WRONG! THIS IS SICK!

  • caray! mars volta its from another world! me encantan! y lo mejor de todo es que son de nuestra generacion! Thomas Pridgen just couldnt get any better! Omar and Cedric have made a great choice to have chosen Thomas, Amazin!

  • Alright!!!!... México!!!!... it´s great music.. MARS VOLTA!!!

  • Who's seeing them in PA. Electric Factory? I can't wait!!!!

  • Yeah, man, I was there last night. It was fucking awesome.

  • Shit brings tears to my fucking eyes.

  • thomas' solo is lights out...gonna see them in 6 days, im unprepared

  • Best drummer in the world

Best effect Vocalist in the world

2nd best Guitarist in the world (After prince)

and raging eargasm callabo of percusion, keys and base

    ALL AROUND EPIC MADNESS

  • + One of the badassest bassist in the world.

  • yess!! him too, he is a beast on the bass.

i checked out some of your vids man, you are pretty talented on the bass as well.

  • Thanks mate. =$

  • Thomas Pridgen kicks my ass.

  • is it only me that prefers the bald drummer????

I think Thomas Pridgen plays more technically, but I think the Bald Guy plays it more rock and roll and more easy to understand the music, at least, more commercial.. The Black guy wants to show he knows how to play and it stay a lil' bit exagerated.. Not the case of this vid. He controls himself here. :) it's MY opinion.

  • Yeah I agree. He should totally tone it down and play awesome instead of absolutely incredible. Omar should also just play chords instead of solos to make it more digestible to the masses : )

  • Que haces de maco??? (what is maco?)

I prefer "Que haces de loco"... lol

    hahahah

P.S.: Thomas Pridgen coud play all musics this way here..

  • word.

  • this song is so badass

  • he looks like obama

  • You fail.

  • 5.04 - omar is diggin thomas' chops! love it!

  • Im seeing them again on sep 19th!!!!!!! Its gonna be another kickass, exstacy filled show!

  • me too...memphis right? or is that the 16th?

  • san antonio, tx on sep 19th....I saw them last year in austin, best show i've ever been too. and i've been to plenty lol

  • I think they're also playing austin on this tour too. You should got to both! That'd be rad!

  • I just saw them in houston yesterday and man it was just stuning amazing.

  • San Antonio Was Awesome...!

lol, my friend was looking for exstacy.

instead we just got drags off of peoples cigs.

  • should've hit me up, i was practically handing them out lol

  • ah,lol, well i go to san antonio

often, when im in town we should

meet up at the mall or something....

  • 4sho, yea i live here perminately, how old are you?

  • kool,

    lol, im 16

  • i think omar shoulda at least put madd fx over the feedback durin pridgens drum solo if he wasnt gonna not do it at all

  • this band makes me groove late nate while walking my campus late at night with my ipod. Like im like dancing and shit jumping on things. Thats not many groups that make me groove like them. NO words I love mars volta seein em a second time on september 17!

  • anyone notice how the audience's reactions change throughout the song? thats like the best feelin for us musicians

    10 thumbs up

  • Pause at 0:52 lol

  • ese thomas si que es un profesional!

  • Thomas fuckin' KILLS IT!!

    Love this drummer!

  • @ 5:30 Thomas loses a stick, and he still doesn't miss a single note, nor does his tempo alter a hair. That's a professional.

  • that's fucking awesome!

  • Not to discredit him in any way but I think the stick must have been cracked or no good anymore and he tossed it intentionally.

  • your right, it does look like he tossed it.

  • Damn dude Cedrics got moves! hahah

  • so much energy!

  • Drums on this track are so sick!

  • I miss Jon Theodore he was amazing. But Thomas Pridgen does a great job also

  • t. pridge owns, brugh!!

  • Thomas Pridgen!! amazing drummer ...

  • Thomas Pridgen such a god on the drums...

  • Lol, the look on Cedric's face during the last note.

  • psychock, one of the members did do a metal project. Juan Aldrete used to be in a band called Racer X. They were an AMAZING band. You might want to check them out.

  • Goddamn right they were! Paul Gilber, Juan Aldrete and Marco Minneman were a great combo.

  • And here I thought I was their only fan!! LOL. Bruce Boulet was a great guitarist too. I don't know if he came before or after Marco.

  • No; watching Paul Gilbert shred his fingers to the bone entertains me also!

  • I never got a chance to see them live unfortunately.

  • you mean fortunetly...would have put you to sleep.

  • whys that?

  • are both those flags, on the set, mexican flags? i see the eagle on both, but one looks blue instead of green!

  • Frances is such an amazing album, but in some ways I like deloused much better. You MUST buy Frances though lol

  • I'd kill to see the members of TMV do a heavy metal side project..I'd jizz in my pants if that happened

  • hey is adrian terrazas on the saxo??

  • not anymore

  • i have recently started to kind of listen to mars volta now cause this song was the first i ever heard and i thought it was cool. My friend says his best concert experience was attending mars volta, you guys agree who have been?

  • For sure man, it's an experience unlike any other.

  • answer: hell yeah

  • fuck yes, their music live wil lyou blow your ears.

  • saw these guys in paris sunday. best gig ive ever been to

  • they are gonna be high as shit for that amsterdam show.

  • Everyone's always saying Pridgen is overdoing it, this is one of the few cases I agree.

  • It is impossible to overplay with TMV. You can see by Omar's expressions throughout the song - especially after Pridgen's fill at the end of Omar's solo- that he knows he's found the perfect drummer for the band.

  • haha check out thomas's stick disposal at 5:30! nice :)

  • in my opinion the greatest mars volta song ever

    this performance is amazing

pridgen shredding the kit as usual and ORL and CBZ up to their usual antics

i cant wait to see them in Amsterdam this July!

  • Comic Book Guy: "Best band ever!"

    And he's right.

  • 1:35 great drum fill

  • hhahah yeah!

  • this song was suppose to be a at the drive in song

  • really? i didnt know that!... i love this song anyways.

  • no the power chord riff was bro. it would be completely different ion ATDI. just the opening riff. nothing else

  • single notes i think but nonetheless a good point. sorry im a guitarist haha

  • TP is a beast on the drums

ORL is a beast on the guitar

CBZ is a beast on the phone

    ... Enough Said.

  • things that happened to me while watching this:

    my face melted

    i twitched incessantly

    gasps almost suffocated me

  • Cedrics vocals are immense

    pridgen's a drum god

    and omar is king

  • i hate thomas pridgen. "bedlam in goliath" was one gigantic drum solo through the whole album. don't get me wrong, he's not a bad drummer..... he just doesn't belong in the mars volta. they need jon theodore back.

  • I agree with you on Bedlam, however have you listened to their new songs? "Desperate Graves" is a great one and it shows that he can play his style of drums but still not outshowing the other musicians.

  • I think Thomas is great and his work with TMV is awesome! Jon Theodore was awesome , but thomas is way better and I love Bedlam its a great album!

Thomas does a lot on the record but, in my opinion, its never to much!! I think thats what a virtuose Band as TMV needs, a virtuose Drummer, thats what Thomas Pridgen is and Jon Theodore never was.

He is a great goal for TMV

  • i respect your response, but thomas pridgen is just fast... with theodore less was more and his beats are far more complex than pridgens.

  • you know i do have to agree with you. I think thats really just what sound they are aiming for these days in their movement of sound. The drumming of Frances the Mute was easily the best i've heard of any of their stuff, and your right it was far more complex and amazing.

  • I think that is oversimplifying the complexity and difficulty of Thomas Pridgen's playing. Jon Theodore is more of pocket player and TP is more improv based of his wide range of rudiments and licks.

  • yeah, i suppose that fair to say. but i'm not oversimplifying the complexity of TP's playing because i've been playing for long enough and had enough professional training to understand the subtle nuances JT has that TP doesn't.

  • look. they're both freakin' incredible drummers in their own rights, and what they bring/brought to TMV is unique.

I think ur right, bmp, in that JT has that TONE that TP doesn't, which may be one of the "subtle nuances" u speak of.

Technique wise, though, i think TP blows JT out of the water.

So i suppose i comes down to what you prefer; tasteful, toneful, and melodic drumming that kicks major ass, or technical, precise as hell drumming that also kicks major ass. Yeah.

    TMV rules either way.

  • gave me shivers...amazing

  • Great sound!! great performance too

  • Wow!
