It wont read blanks because there BLANKS!!! It has to be a burner to even detect a blank dvd... ROM wont recognize blanks..

I have a dell laptop. My cd rw dvd rom drive works, but only while you push on the tray. For whatever reason, it no longer latches when you slide the tray all the way in. it's also a pain to get open. Is this something I can repair, or do u think I need a new drive?

You need to select the correct primary boot device from the system BIOS. You want to make sure you're still booting from your hard disk after you add new drives.

That while all the cables are plugged in.

How does that come??

The Cable in the CD drive is called a IDE cable newer drive will have what called a SATA cable... its alot thiner.

yes,but one has to be master and one has to be slave on the same cable.

What did you connect it to? You got 2 IDE slots on your MOBO, is it PATA or SATA? U got em both on the same cable?
