To be a great singer you must first of all sing consistantly in tune, sing with clarity, with resonance, with sufficient volume and projection. If you strain to produce a powerful sound, sing wildly flat or sharp or off key and don't control your voice, you are not a great singer.

I prefer 'cracked, strained, flat' Christina's notes below E5 which have power and give chills, than listen to singers which mix high notes without any power.

And finally, Christina is a mezzo so of course is rich in the mid low range (A3-G4) but just below that it is foggy and unsupported, and just a bit above at A4 she shows signs of tension and strain, even having to raise her larynx (visibly) to sing B4 and above, sounding tense, and yes...sounding thin and strained instead of open and full as her mid low range, giving her less than an octave of actual quality range, and excuse me but for me that is not a great singer.

To be a great singer you must first of all sing consistantly in tune, sing with clarity, with resonance, with sufficient volume and projection. If you strain to produce a powerful sound, sing wildly flat or sharp or off key and don't control your voice, you are not a great singer.

As I said, range is not all that makes a singer, but I don't consider someone whose quality range is less than 1 octave to truly be a GREAT singer or the best singer in the world or the voice of our generation as her stans seem to think so.
The only open throat high belt I've ever heard by Christina is the G5 in "Lady Marmalade", the rest have all been tight high larynx yelps.
