Apparently there were some issues regarding the trademark ownership where it was discovered that Matsui had obtained the ownership documents illegally, or had outright forged them. The case went to court and he was found guilty..
Matsui's the head of IKO1 which is just one branch of Kyokushin and is the most popular but alot of countries in IKO1 don't like Matsui's way of doing things so they are leaving. That's what I know about this but I'm sure there is even more going on that I'm not aware of.
Mitch- Apparently it is has to do with the way he is handling things. I'm not 100% sure but some of it has to do with the way other countries want to be involved in Kyokushin and he has gone against Mas Oyama's wishes on how he wanted the organization to be handled. I guess this is what led up to the Kyokushin organization to split up. It you used to Kyokushinkankai, but now there is Kyokushinkan which is lead by Royama and Kyokushinkai which is led by Matsui. Continue to next post..
I wouldn't say IKO 1 is dead but its seems to be slowly falling apart thanks to Matsui's way of handling things. Canada recently withdrew from IKO 1 because of this.
Osu..Sorry if I have my own biases. Most kyokushin dojo's focus on kumite. However, kyokushin should bring back some of their grappling skills and face punches like the old days. Hope there would be a change in kyokushin kumite like including judo take downs and throws.
some groups are. Kyokushinkan (under royama) has a competition format that allows headpunches, clinch, throw and limited grappling (which has been announced they will expand on later).
The rules has been in use for a few years now.
So far the fighters are inexperienced, but getting better. Unfortunately, the gloves used drastically reduce the effectiveness of bodypunches, so they are seldom seen.
But this is WKO shin-kyokushin, which use straight oldschool kyokushin competition rules.
IKO1 fighters are bigger and stronger and just as technical only the spirit will count at the end of the day thats what kyokushin is no matter group you belong to
Maybe we dont know but most probably not but its more likely the Japanese fighters didnt do so well in the 9th World Open Kyokushin Kai Full Contact Championship and the Brazilian and European Fighters who are bigger did
The Europeans and Brazilians have fighters in the other groups too, including IKO2 (which is the focus of this vid), not just IKO1.
So why do you think IKO1 fighters are "bigger and stronger" than the other groups. There is no logic in that statement, so I assume it is your group loyalty speaking.
As for skill, we will not know which group has the best fighter until the leaders get their heads straight and allows cross-group competition. And I don't see that happen anytime soon.

I was not seriously implying that IKO1 guys use steroids. I was calling into question your statement that IKO1 guys are "bigger and stronger" than IKO2+ fighters. And I did it with a bit of irony, sorry if you missed it.
as for more or less technical, that is a matter of views and opinions. Personally I feel that IKO1 pressures its top fighters to switch to kickboxing, where IKO2 pressures them to stay in knockdown. Also IKO1 has had several of their top guys leave.
This leads me to my personal view that IKO2 has more technical TOP fighters fighting in knockdown, when IKO1 has sent their top guys into kickboxing.
Any bets against Teixeira going into k-1 in a year or two?
I hope Ewerton Teixeira does go to K1 and all the other top fighters from all the other groupings of Kyokushin Kai are allowed to do the same may be this way we can find out who is the best but more importantly bring back boxing skills/judo and wrestling to make Kyokushin Kai Karate not only the strongest but the best
I fully agree with you. Kyokushin need to regain lost/neglected skillsets (and I have great hope for kyokushin-Kan with their new rules which allows facepunches).
But switching to kickboxing/MMA/Whatever rules will inevitably lead to decreased fighting skills under trad knockdown rules.
You cannot hone the sharp skill edge to be at the very top in a sport and still train for other rules than the one you are trying to exceed in.
Kyokushin Kai no matter what grouping has to emphasize practical goshin jitsu in training knockdown tournaments are a good vehicle for the rest of the world to see Kyokushin Kai but thats all and teach real bunkai for Kata like the pressure point attacks hidden in Kata not like some of the bunkai that was taught which was dangerous in the 70s
Mas Oyama was a great man and Karate Ka but made alot of mistakes in his life as all humans do I believe emphasizing Knockdown Tournaments with its rules has hampered Kyokushin Kai we must go back to when he fouded Kyokushin Kai where he found what useful no matter where it came from and used it osu

why are iko1 fighters bigger and stronger? Are you implying that they are roiding up?
There are slightly (not by much) more of them, that is all.

Now whos pushing his agenda or grouping and lets be honest here you know who would win in a fair Full Contact competition.
tearawa61 4 years ago
How exactly am I pushing? By stating that we dont know who has the better fighter?
By questioning your statement that iko1 has "bigger and stronger" fighters?
Why would I know who would win a fair full contact competition?
This is ridiculous anyway. Kyokushin is kyokushin. No matter what combination of letters and numbers it uses as abbreviation.
