  • My only daughter was called Claire and she died without known cause aged 34 leaving 3 young children. We played this at her funeral, some of the comments on here disgust me (pedophilia rubbish.) WE DID NOT THINK LIKE THAT IN THE 70S

  • Crossover, thank you for this. Very tastefully done. This is one of those songs I heard once but couldn't find it, and it haunted me so. Many rumors and legends surround this song, but it's safe in our imaginations as an innocent tribute to a loved one. I will return here often and replay this.

  • @TubeSteak007

  • this song just brings pure joy to my heart. i was a child myself when this came out,and i can imagine this little girl today feeling so blessed to be immoralize in this gilbert masterpiece.

  • Amazing! It's February 2011, and that song is just as powerful to me as when I first heard it in 1972, when I was 5. Then, I wept because I sensed so much love in the song, because I was nearly murdered by two PA State Troopers. Now I weep because I have so much Love to give to my children and I can't have children.....There are lots of things I could say here, but I want to try my best to keep my focus and to keep it positive. Mr. O'Sullivan Your Song Still Ministers to Me this Day! Thanks!

  • why the video? makes the song creepy!!!!!!

  • I don't like all this pedophilia rubbish. My dad gave me my middle name because of this song and I love it. How can people see pedophilia in such an innocent song? And before anyone spouts the marriage thing at me the 5 year old I babysit is convinced we'll get married some day... This world has gotten far too PC!

  • I had a crush on a girl from Mercer Island named Claire Williams from St Monicas we were in 4th grade I am now 48. What a cutie we were 10 years young. How you doing Claire ? Sean C.

  • Merci, Crossover!

  • It's sick and all of you are sick who think this song is about pervetism and pedhafilia. That's the sad state we're living in today's society.

  • Whoever thinks it's about being a pedifile never loved a child or doesn't have children.

  • Thats My Song (:

  • CLAIR WAS HIS MANAGERS 3 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER. SUPER SONG FROM A GREAT SINGER.

  • First record I ever owned...

  • wait, is he like a pervert? if you look at the lyrics its kinds wired, but then again i think its me

  • Against all this background of perceived paedophilia, I still maintain that this song is one of the most beautiful and innocent that's ever been; and the child's laugh right at the end is one of the most beautiful and innocent sounds that's ever been.

  • Simply lovely!

  • God. what a beautiful piece of oldie !!!!! an innocent love bet an uncle and niece. I feel sad as i feel i m getting old now. its years since i last hear this song.

  • hi dokskii. another beautiful song...

  • @neo93mpp

    thank you..

  • Me recuerda cuando era escolar alla en el 72 en plena adolescencia cuando vivia en Lima-Peru....Now, I live in New York. I like so much. It's great song. Thank.

  • This song is actually about the daughter, Clair, of his close friend and record producer. Gilbert (Real Name Ray) told his friend he would write a song for him and Clair was written. Its an innocent song from an innocent age ... Its a real shame people automatically presume it is something more sinister.

  • I have to laugh at some of these comments saying that Gilbert O'Sullivan is a paedophile. Political Correctness gone mad is what it is. This amazing song was from an innocent period of time. It wasn't that uncommon back then for a parent of family member to say things like that to a young family member, it isn't meant to be taken literally. The modern political correct generation like reading too much into things. This is quality 70s music at its best.

  • tnx for intruducing this song to me,i learnd to love it just recently,,,lov you still honey

  • Ew. what a creepy song. whatever he "meant"...try using those words in reference to a child today and you'll probably wind up in prison. it comes off sounding almost incestual...but hey...maybe he was just trying to express his affection for a special little girl in his life...just that the words he chooses to use are kind of strange...for example "i don't care what people say to me you're more than a child"...

  • @pink101kitty101 No the whole thing was about a request from her mother he write a song about her (Claire). Dad was his producer.

This is 100% innocent and beautiful!

  • @aquaiz Okay, this is going to sound weird but I never said that,it was my mom...who didn't realize she was on my account,so sorry about that. ^^

  • @pink101kitty101 Like I said before... " You only gonna see what's in your own MIND, or what you are spending most of your day thinking about it..." Think About it! Whatever it is... JUST KEEP TELLING YOURSELF... : IT'S OK... :(

  • Modified61 best comment in the last 3 monts... cool.

  • hey folks if you cant say something nice. simply keep you mouthes shut and no one will ever know how stupid you are.

  • Always remenber this is just a SONG; You only gonna see what is in your own mind... Ha! but they still loving michael jackson...

  • Well if that song is pedo then its pedo every time a man likes a little girl even if it was his own daughter. I should then be pedo too cause i loved all my nieces when they were kids (and i still do).

  • CLAIRE, U SAVED ME

  • SOOOO MANY MEMORY`S ! ! ! !

  • wonderful, everlasting song, so bad o'sullivan doesn't release another treasure like this one : inspiration is a bitch...

  • lovely song but you got the lyrics wrong towards the end. its not see my lifetime away its "seem a lifetime away"

  • oh my god this is so pedophilia just listen to the words discusting

  • No it isnt. I was never intended that way and if you can find pedophilia in it then it is entirely from your own mind.

  • I am appalled that you would make such a comment about a beautiful song that expresses parental love so eloquently. This is a unique and touching song from a simpler, more innocent time. I have 2 daughters and a niece and I cry every time I hear this song. There is a love that any parent knows and feels instinctively for their children and the children of their brothers and sisters, that Gilbert O' Sullivan has captured here. Maybe you will have this epiphany when you have kids of your own.

  • my name is claire....i like it though its my 1st tym to heard ds song....

  • Truly such a Sweet, Beautiful SONG!!!!

  • this was at my aunties funeral,

it was her and my unlce ray's song :(

    i miss her so much!

    xxx

  • wow I had this 45 rpm record of this song. It made me remember the past, elementary days. Thanks so much doc for posting. Love It so much.

  • I love this song. always have. dnt listen to the people who make stupid comments.

  • Nice song. But the lyrics is pedophilia.

  • Lyrics are not pedophilia. Tell me exactly what part you think is pedophilia. And can we just remember that this was written in a time when people just didn't think like that.

  • Dont take it personally. Let's enjoy the song...

  • I'm not, I'm not after an argument. I'd just like to know what part of the song you find offensive.

  • i agree, people back then never tought of this song as being malicious or creepy. What the?! i hear baby giggles...

  • ass

  • I said, pls dont take my comment personally. Let's enjoy the song.

  • thanks again!!!... cossover70s ,what a song! I love your videos.

  • my pleasure cristie...

    dokskii.

  • What a very nice song......

  • The song is cute.Gilbert's been married for years.Just a tribute to girls.Real innocent.People should lighten up.

  • Es todo sensibilidad.... alguien que compone canciones como esta... debe ser una persona muy especial.... la melodia entra dentro de uno..... simplemente genial

  • Stupid comments like yours deserve comebacks

  • Daisy, please dont take it personally. I like the song.

  • A part of you has grown in me.

And so you see, it's you and me

    Together forever and never apart,

Maybe in distance, but never in heart.

  • Its pedophilia, my friend. Its like what the Muslim prophet Muhammad did to a six year old girl. He took it as his bride. But then this is a nice song.

  • It seems that the ones who make the remarks towards pedophilla are the the pedophillacs themselves.

  • Nothing creepy here..just a guy who loves who may be his niece..for those of u that thinks its wierd take a hike.

  • I like this song. Thanks,I can add it to my list.
