I was so irritated when Sheamus won. The PPV sales will be well down as people will know Cena will win. Sheamus hasn't lost (I may be wrong) on ECW or RAW but he's only beaten low-card wrestlers (e.g. Goldust, Jamie Noble, Santino). To be in a title match he should have already beaten some mid-carders such as MVP or Cody Rhodes to improve his credibility. WWE should have done something with Legacy after their DX feud and had Di Biase win the contendership. If not then give it to Kofi.

The question the WWE asks themselves is not "who deserves to be champion" but which main events have the chance to be most compelling and thus sell the most tickets and PPV buys.

Listen, it's a fallacy that all wrestlers need to follow the same path to stardom. Some may benefit from long stints at the mid-card level, while others will have a stronger impact if they explode onto the scene in a more dynamic way. Obviously the WWE deems Sheamus to be the latter case. Give him a chance.

I think Sheamus has some great potential as an up and coming heel but maybe this is too soon cause people really have not seem that much of his capabilities. He hasn't developed enough as a character and I agree with those concerns. I am willing to give this a chance though. :-)

Oh, it's not like he's going to win. The way I see it, this is just a step in establishing this guy to be a legitimate threat sometime down the road. The same thing happened with the likes of Vader and Mankind during the Shawn Michaels Championship era.

It's no suprise that Sheamus is getting a huge push, he's big Vince loves the big guys. Since Khali, Lesnar, Lashley, Vladimir, Big Daddy V (not Viscera), are big, they got huge pushes, and now Sheamus is getting onee since he's big.

But I like that Sheamus is getting the push he's getting, finally a new face in the main event/world title picture.

its just a push to ecw title, which in my oppinion is a mid point to wwe/world heavyweight fom united states/intercontinental, i think Shelton should get a wwe title shot over superstars that are a little to new to wwe and havent held any previous titles, shelton has had intercontinental, united states, and tag team titles on smackdown, raw and now he is going to be ecw champion, he should of got a title push in 2004 after he got two wins over HHH, if you haven't guessed he is my fave superstar

It's all about Raw trying to keep up the "anything can happen" thing it's tried to keep up since the Attitude Era. No one expected Sheamus to win. Most people watching that match were probably thinking Kofi, Orton, or MVP would get it.

I really enjoy Sheamus and everything but it is too soon. It doesn't matter how much heart he has for the industry. It's all for the fans and you gotta do what will excite them. Most fans don't really care how much "passion" or "dedication" they have...they just want to be entertained.

At least its a step in the right direction. Most people (including me) are sick and tired of triple h and randy orton getting title shots. Yes I do think Sheamus was pushed too soon and there are many guys on raw that could be in the main event besides Sheamus. This was a great topic to bring up. I believe he is being pushed too fast. I liked his push but it is way too fast. I wonder why they decided to do this with him and not other heels in the past who had the "it factor" in my eyes more than he does such as MVP, Swagger, and even Kennedy when he was a heel in the E.

i think swagger should have been given the shot despite how he has been used since coming to raw (which i didnt agree with). i think swagger coming from ecw had momentum and especially after him and cena's match at the draft this year, i believe swagger should have been that heel to go after cena. but thats just me.

For me I like the fact that there is a new challenger for the title but how long has he been in the WWE 4 month? Most ppl didnt know about him till 5 weeks ago when he showed up on Raw. I'm on the fence. Part of me is excited to see someone new fighting for the title, but part of me is like "meh" to see Sheamus get the opportunity. I think someone who had been there a little longer would have been a better choice, like Jack Swagger or even R-Truth (based on him being heavily promoted on Smackdown with all of the promos and vignettes, and his big run in TNA) with a suitable storyline. For example: Thug from the streets vs. White guy turned rapper (no offense intended to anyone).

It has been a long long time since I cheered as much then when I saw sheamus winning on raw. It is kinda sudden, but I think sudden / unexpected things should happen more often.

Swagger or the Miz were the other heel options, but The Miz has a belt (and was buried by Cena) and Swagger has no momentum, so Sheamus is the logical choice. Kingston and Bourne are great, but Face vs. Face just wouldn't work for a first-time main-eventing and certainly not against a relatively limited wrestler as cena.

I may have not seen enough of Sheamus but personally I don't really see him as being ready to go beyond the mid-card. I reckon he could be a good champion but he really doesn't have the air of a top-tier wrestler around him right now.

WWE's problem is that they want to give Cena new rivals but they lack well built-up heels. Most of their heels either have no momentum (Swagger, Masters) or are currently stuck in their own feuds or teams (Orton, Legacy, Jerishow).

They need more good heels.

I think they put Sheamus out too early. I think that he could be good, but he shouldn't be put up so high, so early. I also don't think he should be destroying people like Finlay, like he is. I think Kofi should have gotten the nod. I also think Bourne should get some title shot that he'll actually win.

On a side note, do you watch TNA. If you don't I highly suggest that you do because things are getting really exciting there, not to mention that you get to see some great legends like Foley.

Sheamus trains with Triple H and Drew McIntyre is pushed by Triple H even though his matches are boring and he gets no reaction.

Sheamus is a good guy cause he wants to work but it is too early he does not have a character even though he can be stereotyped easily.

Evan Bourne will never make it cause he is a typical small ROH guy like Kendrick London and Kofi's character can not be taken seriously. They have MVP Swagger Miz who get a huge reaction.But Triple H brand will never get new stars.

Sheamus is a great wrestler, in my opinion. He has the mic skills, the look, the ability. Most people don't like him because of his white features, and his appearance. I love Sheamus, but the WWE is pushing him way too soon. He started in ECW, then Triple H came along. He upgraded to Raw, and he has done nothing except "retire" Jamie Noble and beat up some people. But really, he's in the main event picture now, so we can only hope that the WWE doesn't do the same mistakes they made with Kozlov.

They do this every year, they give a mid-carder a title shot just to test the water with them because they know that the December PPV isn't going to be bought by as many people anyway. (What with two of the big 4 on either side of it.) So this year they chose Sheamus simply because of his attitude. What WWE's trying to do is answer there critics for saying that the same guys (especially on Raw) fued for the World Title's all the time. I mean come one Jesse Ventura said that himself this past week on Raw. I made the link between Kozlov and Sheamus. Sheamus is a really talented guy and he deserves credit for it but, this is just too soon. In my eyes Sheamus has not earned the right to get a WWE title shot, hes never held a title in WWE before, hes never even had a title shot before, his gimmick isnt developed enough, his moveset isnt developed enough. Hes just not ready for something that huge.

If you ask me, Jack Swagger was the obvious choice here if they wanted to push someone.

I'm a big fan of Sheamus, but should he be #1 contender now? No. If they wanted to put a heel against Cena, Swagger would be better. Sheamus needs a bit more time before he can main event. Still, I think some people might be raging too much over this. They're only putting Sheamus in as a filler #1 contender until the Royal Rumble (They sometimes do this). I'm sure we can survive a few weeks. Still, it's new star, and it beats another Orton match, right?
