  • it's about the atmosphere and texture of sound more than anything else. there's a scene or just a feeling they're trying to convey through the sound. i feel like this makes it more art than other music is, it's like looking at a painting. that's what music's supposed to be, art through sound. people get hung up on melody and rhythm but forget about style. it's not what you say but how you say it.

  • the answer is yes.

  • Why 47 disliked i don't understand .

  • I thought I'd be the only person on the planet that listens to this music, but somewhere, somehow, other people do as well, but the reality is that I'll never meet these people during my entire life

  • @MoreAnonymous you need to get out more

  • boc defines my life

  • why isn't this fucked up anymore???! :( It was so good...

  • BoC videos on youtube are the only videos on youtube that contain NO fights. ever noticed that? thumbs up if you think.

  • @mxfreak41

so true... no arguments here, no stupid comments

everybody here just has a mutual sense of peace... you can't be an arrogant idiot if you're listening to beautiful music like this

  • Wonderful pixels and BOC !! thanks!!

  • sounds like you're just about to die and then you get flashbacks of your whole life right before your eyes..... deep.

  • What happened to the fucked up version? It was awesome.

  • Great song!!

  • wait, what?

i have this version downloaded from limewire.... i thought it was the original....:S

  • Very nice!

  • something isnt right.....oh wait my brain is bleeding, nvm

  • something isnt right.....

  • ich staune immer wieder über werke die menschen volbringen... Solche werke wie dieses Lied... Das ist wahre kunst, ein lied zu kreiren das einen tief berühren kann...

    einfach nur toll <33

  • anyone else feel the cosmic energy when they listen to this song

  • yes...

  • yup

  • this crap quality is an offence! abort this video please

  • whats all the moaning about ?

this music is inspired by distortion of signals and sounds.

the spirit of things..the spirit of things...oh whats the point....

  • music is skipping a bit... damn scratched mp3s

  • Murder!

  • if this was on purpose then you probably shouldn't upload videos. This ruined the original.

  • This is a disgrace. Ditch the glitch filter and make your own music.

  • i like your version...a lot

  • not their best, but ok

  • make me un-hear this crap!

  • Hahahaha, OMG!!! LMFAO!!

    I like this music though.

  • An f'ing travesty of a fan made video! Congratulations for the talentless addition of drum beats and tasteless breaks. If you can't do it well, DON'T do it at all. The only thing missing from your version of this song are the showers of fire and brimstone. This is a fail of BIBLICAL proportions!

  • Nope, a realist. If this wasn't a technical error, then it is a TERRIBLE fan made mix. I am entitled to my say as are the PLETHORA of other comments stating similar opinions using far less delicate terminology. Cheers!

  • Are you hearing something Im not or has the audio been changed ? Its normal ?

  • I can attest to being a little reactionary regarding this song. One of my favorite songs from one of my favorite groups. I've listened to dozens of covers of this song, and most are truly good! Used to DJ back in the day, and you can tell when time and effort has been put into a cover/remix. This sounds like a jumbled mess in comparison to the original. Locate it on this site and give it a listen. Compare.

  • ugh this is kind of an earsore

  • Make your own music! Don't ruin other peoples!

  • How did this get over one star in rating again?

  • You took an amazing song, added awful freeware drum beats and cut certain parts out of the song to make me feel like im listening to a record which needs to be trashed.

Thanks, i am only listening to this song until i post this, then i am leaving.

  • @Hai2uSquared: @Hai2uSquared: it's the original; it's the style of BoC to make it sound like old records or tapes.

I don't understand why your comment got thumed up 9 times, it's pure nonsense.

    thank you, too.

  • I dont like what you did it to it...no flow

  • @doctalee: same for you:

it's the original; it's the style of BoC to make it sound like old records or tapes.

I don't understand why your comment got thumed up 7 times, it's pure nonsense.

    thank you, too.

  • @vanvalldrey: I apologize for my imperdinence; I jumped to conclusions and misunderstood what you ment.

    I am sorry.

  • malfunctioning sadness and beauty, broken, eternally traped and tainted in limbo.

  • Well, that's skegness for you.

  • is like being stuck in a kind of limbo with broken memories of your life all scatered but somehow tainted. sadness that is also warped and tainted. its like if you were lost in a wierd world trying to find your way out and little remnents of of your life were scatered throughout this confusion. mafunctioning sadness and beauty lost in a crazy demension

  • the bitter sweet memories of rusted husks with smiles for faces but the eyes are hollow and dead. the voice has a overwhelming resonance of fear and longing. if only the light could be sparked again, but the flame comes out as a glow to reduce the shapes to shadows. like a dusty webbed attic is the mind to revolve. squeaking floor boards of the soul break to absolve the abundant shoulder weight that could envelop us all

  • thats reality for you man, but it ain 't all about sadness

  • I think the original is better

  • lycia is very in depth with melody and multidimensional synthesizing

    Very unique music

    Etheral like almost

    V.A.E. / Y.S.D.

  • yeah, the fucked up file is way better than the original dude :O

  • i'm really impressed with these guys, i didn't know them...

  • omg :'{ these music is playing with my feelings.. it is soooo BEAUTIFUULLLL . this is completely genius...

  • This video makes me trip :)

  • boc music is kinda creepy, that's why it's used in salad fingers :)

  • No, I like it like this. This sick. Thanks for the fucked up file. i LOVE IT, IT SOUNDS GOOD.

  • I have most of BOC's cd's and this "In a beautiful place" sounds messed up, like a cheap cd-player skipping all the time.

    What went wrong?

Please redo this because it's a great song!

  • it's boards of canada, everything they do sounds trippy.

  • Oh, my bad, you're right it is messed up. But I think it sounds cool like this.

  • it's fucked up, but is musch better like this =) who fucked it is a genius lol

  • i prefere it all fucked up

  • Is this reversed, It sounds pretty messed up.

  • Unspecified beautiful feeling in my heart and mind.. Something so nice and great, I know, many people told me on this, that's the sleeping shit, but I see in BOC something special.

  • Simple, unique beauty.

  • I repeat it over and over... Don't have this record, but I love BoC.

  • on my pc the file is kind of fast-going or something... after half of it, it's quiet! but it sounds much nicer than the actual song : )))

very much like a hangover, really^^

  • I remember listening to Vangelis Äntarctica",Pink Floyd and Kitaro back in the early 80's as a kid.Even Enigma in the late 80's.Discovering Ambient chillout electronica a few years ago was like opening an amazing present and has since provided my hangliding soundtrack for my head.Ridge soaring, coring thermals with birds, fits like a glove.

  • I had never heard of them before today, I was a the Cosm gallery in the city (Alex Grey) and this was playig and I asked wat it was... ive only heard this song, wats another good song by this group?

  • I would recommend listening to an entire album song by song because they really make an album go somewhere. It's hard to just drop in on one track. Some tracks I would recommend, however, are '1969', 'Aquarius', 'Julie and Candy'. Personally I think their best album is 'Geogaddi', but 'The Campfire Headphase' might be more accesible.

  • My favorite album by them is Geogaddi

  • Really? Mine is "Boc Maxima".

  • I recommend "Sunshine Recorder" or at least I think that is the track name. It's the 6th track on geogaddi.

  • Dayvan cowboy, same dark chill kinda vibe.

  • too bad BoC isn't very well known. they are so amazing

  • maybe its for the best, don't want them to get to huge and everyone obsess over em. idk i think the music itself just only lends itself to a certain type of person who is swayed by it

  • i completely agree with you.

  • Shouldn't beautiful music be enjoyed by everyobdy. I can see where you're going, but saying -the music shouldn't be popular because it will only appeal to a certain type of person- is fundamentally selfish.

  • I'll put this into an analogy that I think makes sense. It may sound odd but whatever. When the new Ford Mustang came out, it was very rare and sought after. Now they are everywhere and the Mustang seems to have lost its mystique. Thats what I'm kind of trying to get at here.

  • Yes I understand, and I do agree that it's nice to have this music a little more to yourself. I don't want BoC to reach Michael Jackson-like fame, but that would never happen, not even if you DO try to popularize this kind of music :)

  • I didn't mean to make it sound like that at all, sorry if it came off that way. I would be thrilled if more people liked this kind of ambient music. It's just at least where I live I have never known wordless ambient to be terribly popular. For the record, Id love everyone to get a chance to know this music.

  • Some of my friends are into it, but I must say that I'm not that much into ambient at all myself, I just like BoC :)

  • I find this track a bit creepy rather than beautiful. Its like having a really wierd dream. Brilliant though

  • My mate said it sounds like a hangover. I think it's their most beautiful and transcendental track.

  • Aren't we all fundamentally egoist?

  • It depends on your definition of 'egoist', but in the broadest sense, I think we are :P

  • I have to agree with the first comment, that this type of music is really meant just for certain people. While this music is beautiful, peaceful and uplifting, it is off the beaten path. This music isn't sought out because much of the lyrics or because it's catchy or fun. It's just bliss- and not too many people are into that anymore. The sound is very distinct, and BOC is sort of it's own subculture. It's great.

  • @thejerseydude Well said man Well said..

  • they are well known just not in the states

they run in the minds of certain people who can assimilate a introspectivity within their own minds

thats what boards of canada does

  • ^spot on, different music for different personalities...i don't mean this in an elitist way but a large majority of people would simply find BOC boring unable to relate to the 'feeling' of the music

  • well so far

ive showed this song to around 20+ people

so far everyone has said it is an amazing song

    teachers,friends,parents,random people

  • why didn't you show it to me?? -.-' xD. i'm an artist and this is one of the most perfect songs i ever heard. It has the best mood i ever heard.

  • the origninal version is so much better

  • pretty much

  • first of all, I like BOC.

but I know people who don't like thier music, but who do have as great or greater appreciation of music as my good self.

  • agreed pmblaze

  • very soothing

  • word.

  • This is arguably the best BoC video I've seen.

Beautiful is the word. Five stars.

  • I love this song, BoC Just makes me Drift away.

  • This song is very calming and inspirational. It's a good one to listen to on an ipod when out in the wilderness, or on a walk during a cool summer's eve. "In a Beautiful Place" is amongst the best BOC songs out there.

  • i might have to go have a wank and then a cry now. this video is mindblowing.

  • @lovemeccano that's what you call a "crywank"

  • @ReadSchopenhauer wow i just. wow 0_0

  • This song and the album altogether made for a really cool atmosphere when playing The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion.

  • shit thats a good idea

  • Hell yea!

  • Such an embrace I get when this song comes on.

  • I love this mood..

  • In a beautiful place... inside your heart and mind... Feeling so light and free... floating like a cloud...

  • everything a.twin Selected ambient works 1&2 could of been, but wasn;t

  • Your having a laff, right? There's some classics on SAW1, and it was compiled from tracks from RDJ from the ages of 14-19! Your talking about tracks created 20 years before BoC did this track. Although I like BoC, there's nothing they've done that even comes close to early AFX stuff.

  • Here here SAW1 is a true classic

  • i agree

  • I heard this song on the radio and got a sort of flashback to some early childhood memory. It wasn't a good or especially bad one, but for just a short moment it made me float above everything and disconnected me from the world around me. A strange but beautiful experience, and very peacefull :)

  • WHAT radio station plays BoC??

  • The online radio station SomaFM on Groove Salad. Comes on at least once a day.

  • wtf?

  • Wow, such a great Song and the last Comment is 4 Months ago written :D

  • "Although not a follower of hserokdivad, she's a devoted branch davidian" - 1969

I wonder what boc's thoughts are on the Davidian massacre directly.

  • Great video! Such an ambient feel to it.

  • I like these nuts. Who cares what tree or weed or bush is in a movie? What it means is withing you anyhow. The music takes me where I need to go and thats all I care about. These dudes are cool and very talented.

  • thanks for the comments people with post another rare video real soon so subscribe to me

  • i think a lot of the weird cultish vibe this band "gives off" is completely by mistake and has been blown up by this wonderful monstrosity, the interweb. while the song certainly does use a phrase attributed to amo roden...it's definitely not *about* waco and koresh.

  • "Michael Sandison sought to dispel their occasionally cultish image in an interview, saying: "We're not Satanists, or Christians, or Pagans. We're not religious at all. We just put symbols into our music sometimes, depending on what we're interested in at the time. We do care about people and the state of the world, and if we're spiritual at all it's purely in the sense of caring about art and inspiring people with ideas." from - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boards_Of_Canada

  • Someone told me that song is about Waco Texas and the branch davidians...

  • Yeah it is. For some reason that theme recurs in their music.

  • ...also, the editing was great did you do it? I loved the trees/water transition

  • That was fantastic! I love that track. I just made a video featuring the track Roygbiv by Boards of Canada. called 'One Small Step' check it out! It is on the 2nd half of the vid...

  • Nice. Here is a link to the place they were referring to in the song (and where they stay)

http://www.scotland-flavour.co.uk/midlothian.html. Pentland Hills/Glencourse Reseviour outside Edinburgh. I live quite close to BOC.

  • BOC are from Scotland or just live there? I lived in Scotland for 4 yrs myself. (went to St Andrews). I love it.

  • stalk them :O

  • lovely tune

  • nice timing the beats with the trees

  • love the song, shame the videos a fake.

  • there's a lot of fan videos for boc.

the music means different things to everybody, and this is how one person expressed it.

    where's the shame in that?

  • thanks for this upload

  • nice useage of one of my favourite tracks. would be great to see it in full resolution someday!
