  • sound/video is not synchronized :)

  • Terry often provokes strong reactions on youtube. I think it's called jealousy.:-) One of my favourite drummers .At times this piece reminds me of Revueltas. Great stuff!

  • brilliant drummer and you have to admit his drum set is very kick ass

ps did any on notice the weird faces he was making

  • brilliant drummer and you have to admit his drum set is very kick ass

  • What are people complaining about the size of his kit for? Who says anyone should adhere to what you think? Is your standard everyone else's standard or are you just that insecure?

Bozzio plays on the kit he chooses to play on just like you choose to not accomplish 1/4 of what he's accomplished, so as you can see life is personal preference. What say all you people sitting home doing nothing but complaining go do any of what he's done, otherwise grow up.

  • was this pirece written by bozzio?? what's the name of it?

    it's incredible!!

  • @sabotage1111 .... yes he did write it ...sorry i do not know the name of it ... but check the interview with Terry in Drumhead magazine , he talks about this session

  • Terry Bozzio is a monster!!! he has an incredible pallette of sounds, grooves and astinatos--no one sounds like Terry!! from Zappa to UK to the Brecker Bros to his solo work to this way cool post ( !!!)he always delivers the goods with style, energy and artistry as only Bozzio can-

check out this Bozzio inspired drum solo by a huge Bozzio devoteé and the author of

"The Book of Funk Beats- grooves for snare, bass and hihat"

    search:

    "DRUM SOLO IN 3 MOVEMENTS"

    in YouTube

  • Also he plays a 4 piece kit sometimes at clinics so to everone who says he can only play that big fucking kit r wrong

  • Bozzio is a rock god not a jazz drummer but him and Peart are just as skilled as some of the best jazz drummers ever bro

  • @Lobones0066

Terry was Frank Zappa's drummer for a while. So was Steve Vai his guitarist just to let you know

  • @fightertrainer I know man steve vai is a beast one of my favorites

  • @Lobones0066 I know it's been ages since your comment and this is quite irrelevant, but...

Peart just CAN'T play jazz. Simple as that, he can't...

  • With other words: A lot of Show. There are many drummers out there who are as good as him, maybe even better. He needs something to separate himself from these drummers, so he needs something special. I would not say "no" if someone would offer this drumkit to me, but seriously: Nobody really needs it.

  • I completely agree with you. Many jazz drummers who are miles greater than him use really simple sets and sound many times better XP

  • this guys fuckin awsome.

  • Wait.. Did Terry play in the "Steve Vai live with Metropole Orkest" video too?

  • no...

  • Ok, thanks for clearing that up :)

  • He has Changed Thing Give him that. A Very Lovely Person I met him. I opened up for him. way back in The day. Stay cool have a good one. Cheers..

  • He has made a large impact on most drummers. So let's just love what he has done for us all. Made drummers Smart musicians.

  • Gee I like Bozzio since zappa and missing persons, his instructional educational vids I went through where good, but get a room already.... ha ha

I am not sure he made drummers smarter, that is a tall order.... ha ha, just kidding.

  • Haha nice! I was there=p still have the awesome poster ad of this concert;)

  • if he is good why he need a 100piece drum set a real drummer just needs a hihat a snare and a bass drum and a crash

  • Hi Mr :) When you listen to Bozzio Throw all you thoughts about what drums are out the window....He has taken drums from being mainly thought as percussive/rhythm and added lots of color !!! What he designed is a full chromatic scale with drums being the tonal instrument. I will post the his toms and what they are tuned to above. So you see he is not trying to flail on every piece..its there for the composition that is written.

  • onionfartful.......Very appropriate and to the point comment.........thanks (some people do miss the whole point of Terry's Drumming)

  • he's playing a melody, something no drummer has ever done before, he needs all those drums cuz you need some notes to play a melody

  • He doesn't need it. Look hard enough and you'll find him tearing up tiny drumsets better than most drummers you can think of. His qualification is not in question. He chooses to have such a big set, but it's hard to call it a "drum set" because it's really an instrument of its own...he tunes the drums to specific notes so that he can play melodies just like any xylophone or guitar. Basically, it isn't for laying down beats, it's for composing melodies.

  • Well put. I see way too much arguing about Bozzio's set. People who think he sucks, just because he has a giant set are ignorant. A guy that can maintain 13/7 poly-rhythms and the like, in each limb has surpassed the standard five piece...

  • haha yeah, I think what people do is just watch one video and assume that they know anything and everything about the entirety of the drummer's capability. XD

  • AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH !! thank GOD !! finally a video that can show people who dont understand Bozzio how great he is !!! he is so misunderstood cause is cause is over so many peoples heads :)

  • Thank you for writing this reply. I am SOOO tired of people talking smack about Terry and his playing. Most of them, as you stated, don't have a clue as to what he's really playing.....................

    THANK YOU AGAIN!!

  • hey JD you are welcome I explained more above to help people understand if they want to :)

  • I wish I was there!

  • Somebody move that fucking music stand!! AAAHH!!! Hey, dude with HH tune....the quality isn't that great in this recording....ever consider THAT??

  • gazibakkal........ are you jealous?...... envy perhaps?

  • AMAZING

  • The reason he has more than 5 tom is because when you are making melodies you can play 5 notes with 5 toms but with more toms you can play more notes. You should understand what I mean if you are a "High class" drummer.

  • true that , when it comes to terry if you have nothing nice to say be silent , they guy is 60 years plus and he is amazing

  • @minzulla the drum is a percussion instrument, if terry wanted to play melodies, he shud play the xylophone.

  • @domdom87 Ya know, not every musician accepts the boundaries of what's already been done. There are people who strive to expand the possibilities, and range of their instrument. Such people are typically called *innovators*, and Terry is certainly one. In my opinion, your comment is evidence of a closed mind.

  • dude, terry bozzio owns and you know it.

  • Looks like he had some problems with his earpiece at 2:48

  • groan.

  • damn hes always just playin 4/4

    damn easy

  • Mike Portnoy plays in all kinds time signatures but he's no where near as good as Terry Bozzio

  • damn he cant play:s ima real drummer this guy dont do anything it all for god sake:s i can do that shit!! .. mike portnoy is not the best for his cymbals dude.. he is the best becuz he came from a consevatory

  • Wtf are you saying? please translate

  • i said that he sucks and if you`r a real drummer you would say the same

  • Correction; portnoy dropped out of berklee in first year... Bozzio is the one with classical conservatory training and a degree in music...

  • i know .. but lets be honest.. i mean .. i know that bozzio is a legend and was awesome in frank zappa but .. lets be honest.. who in the world could`nt do that? the think in this video.. its easy:s!! i have playin for almost 10 years and this is very easy 2 do

  • Yea, but do you have knowledge to know what sound you get out of each drum+cymbal? If you listen he's pretty much playing in key to the other instruments. And since he's playing with a symphony, he's not going to go crazy. Remember half the time "more is less"

  • Yeah, but it isn't about chops, it's about musicality, who cares if 'anyone could do it' anyone can play the groove Ringo laid down in "In my life" but it still friggin MADE that song...

besides, dynamics, ostinatos, and all sorts of subdivisions of 5ths and 7th, Bozzio can be really subtly complex when he wants to...

  • i know!! im just sayin that gavin harrison for example.. is better than him

  • why?

  • bcuz he has a better technique

  • That's ridiculous, Technique is just a tool a means to an end- it could be anything, if tossing a trashcan out the window produces the sound you want, then you have good technique... What's with people's need to compare such talented musicians on such narrow and preposterous scales as 'technique'?

  • yeah but lets be honest and serious about this..

that`s not drummin.. drummin its about loops and rythm.. good tones..

if we want 2 see the same melodic stuff we should hear a piano then..

he`s a legend i respect that.. im just sayin that drummin is all about technique and luv:)

  • Are you serious? there's rules to music now? did I miss that memo?

If everyone thought like you we wouldn't even have drum kits because we'd be standing with a snare slung around our shoulders keeping time for a marching band...

  • ok ya win.. im not sayin that he`s a bad drummer im jus sayin that he isnt the best

lets luv this awesome piece of mind o,o!

check futile from gavin harrison on youtube and lets go 2 sleep:) im tired

  • idisagree. in drumming technique is everything along with independency.

  • for example.. he`s usin a lot of toms .. he said that he need more tones 2 play .. but gavin harrison show us that he can play a lot of tones with a simple kit

  • He can get a lot of dynamics and tones out of his smaller kit, yes, but he can't get precise pitches... you're missing the point of bozzio's playing, he's playing melodically... the key word, melody.

  • nice to see people like you on youtube :D

  • Tones are different than pitch dumbshit. And you can't play different notes on 1 drum just to let you know.

  • that's not entirely accurate either. there are MANY drums made just for that purpose...and if you personally can't figure out how to make one drum play more than one note...perhaps you should re-evaluate who the "dumb shit" is

  • Comment removed

  • You can play tones (which is different than pitch) on a drum by where you play on the the head and how you hit it and what type of stick you use and so on. And in the end most drummers don't even have their drums tuned to a pitch, just what ever sounds good which isn't going to work if your playing a fuckin arpegio in the key of D or some shit.

  • im just sayin that u and me can do that

    and ringo is awesome :)

  • Ringo is not awsome.

  • but mike portnoy it is

  • No he's not

  • amaizing !
