  • If you like this, *please* check out Jon & Vangelis' version. It will give you goosebumps.

    Seriously.

  • this song is such a classic , it should have been a world wide NO1

  • summer's version is the sexiest, as ever; J & V the most soulful; A Corr's is a good attempt let down by the slightly dull music and goody 2 shoes delivery. donna all the way

  • @ohaupsherises i disagree,Jon Anderson gives the song such depth and is by far the best version,Chrissie Hynde comes in 2nd and Donna comes in 3rd.a amatter of fact Friends of Mr Cairo is a totally awsome LP.i own it in all it's original incarnations,US release, import audiofile LP and CD.i just couldn't get enough of it when it was out.

  • @nomiclas hey, i think we agree actually - you're right J Anderson's has by far the most depth, no debate there I reckon. excuse a former 70s/ 80s kid who thought D Summer was hot : ) have to agree to differ with C Hynde - worthy artist etc, but I can't get past her voice which I personally find a little bit dreary - sorry!

  • I prefer Andrea Corr's version! Though it's nice to hear this one too :)

  • Have a Cd of this classic with 4 versions, all are FAB ,,,,, I want to fly ,,its such an uplifting track.....

  • happy xmas day !

  • This song almost needs no instrumental. Try listening to just Donna and the chorus singing. This reminds me of a holy walk through the desert with just one soul contacting one's maker.

  • This in no way compares to the Jon & Vangelis version. This version is too slow, too American.

  • kelly rowland

  • Quincy Jones completey respected Jon & Vangelis' original composition and this version will always stand as testament to his genius and understanding.

  • @ColinBobbyDartford coudn't agree more. Quincy started with a great composition and brought it three levels up - as always!

  • JA Vangelis version is too slow and then they miss some lyrics. I like this one better.

  • i still really love this song <3

  • I´d rather prefer listening the JA / Vangelis version of the song

  • @Fulljeep do it then

  • donna summer is a fucking legend...... i bow to her.... great song... brilliant video... and overall wat a woman!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Strange, we do things, despite fears, because we have to, makes our work all the more great, because we pushed through the worry and doubt and did what we had to anyway. Look at Donna's unblinking stare and comment at 1:39

Sounds like a signal from you

bring me to meet your sound

and I will bring you to my heart

Well she couldn't stop it. Had to be said. The message, whatever it meant to her, had to be dredged up, emblazoned at the cost of anything else in her life's purpose. That's courage!

  • She's singing through some exit wounds. I would almost like to know what caused her to take a change of life course. But it doesn't really matter. She was elevated to a new level. I suppose there must be a reinvestigation into this album. Oh the time taken! So much to do. Interestingly, this video seems to end on a note of fear. She really was finding faith and scared to project it. It was almost like a dichotomy of Donna, finding that she would have to answer for the drastic change to her fans.

  • Watch throughout this video. She has come out the other side of some serious shit, and reawakened with the same gift of voice that she has chosen to redirect into spiritual humiliation. That's a very brave thing. There is a season to all things. Donna, in some ways, was even better here than before. She had found direction that was heretofore lacking. But it was only possible to broadcast for being what she was. Saul must have found that, with great notoriety, comes great responsibility as Paul.

  • This is obviously not the same person who did, "Love To Love You". Her appearance has been stricken by some humiliating debacle within her being. Her talent has been transformed to another realm of realization. NOT that her more popular music was bad, (her folly). NO. She was great then, and she was great here, in redefining her goal and purpose. She is an exceptionally talented woman with a great gift of passion nevertheless her choice. So we have both: hot Donna and devoted Donna. Good for us.

  • a brilliant version of this jon and vangelis classic! Quincy is amazing! his ability to assemble all this talent under one roof and produce a masterpiece! and to top it all off he was making thriller with micheal and also an audio version of E T the story book with micheal narrating at the same time as doing donna,s album whew! he must,ve been exhausted!

  • This was the first song I remember hearing on vinyl. I sat down with my dads B&O deck and amp with B&O earphones and listened. I was 3 years old. My first taste of analogue. I used to think that the end sounded like the track was being spun in a washer-machine. I now have an insatiable appetite for electronic music & synthesizer hardware. The B&O was sold so we could afford to eat after the tragic loss of my mother when I was 4, she was only in her early twenties! Music triggers all senses

  • I get the memory lane chills when I hear this. excellent eighties song.

  • @MiLLwallpaul231258

LOL donna always had a lot of blond guys around her.

the guy at 1:26 with the duffle bag had a good 80s hairstyle but eveyone thinks 80s men wore their hair like motley crue,

  • Donna Summer! WOW! At least some one in America has a voice!

I'm starting to think you might all be 'sheeple'?

  • 30 years ago, still nice

  • Thank you so very much for posting this funky, beautiful anthem! xoxo

  • One of the funkiest bass lines in pop history.

  • Greatness!!

  • Good quality but not loud enough - message to self - stop whining and be grateful that you can hear this at all

  • 3:56 is that the all-star choir? and where's mj?

  • @paparry Your are more than welcome to ignore the shit hole usa the rest of your life inlcuding every muscian and singer born there. I don't think the world would object, you are no different than the people that define my native country. Start enjoying the music, cut the PoliSci shit and focus on Donna if you have the brains to accomplish such a basic command.

  • Sad how songs like this have comments focused on MJ/the all star chous stuff or just hate when it's a great song, focus on why you came to see the video Donna, not MJ. I'm a big fan of Michael Jackson, but I wanted to see this cause I wanted to listen to Donna.

  • Sad how songs like this have comments focused on MJ/the all star chous stuff or just hate when it's a great song, focus on why you came to see the video Donna, not MJ. I'm a big fan of the king, but I wanted to see this cause I wanted to listen to Donna.

  • I have only hear this song before today from Jon Anderson and Vangelis....Donna Summer does a really excellent job. Not too often I hear the same song from two different artists sound outstanding like they do!

  • Ze komme nie, ze komme wel (mama appelsap) ;-)

    Geweldig nummer

  • Ze komme nie, ze komme wel (mama appelsap) ;-)

  • prachtige video echt om van te genieten

  • This bring back memories

  • Music: Vangelis...Song: Jon Anderson...Goddess: Donna Summer

  • @Ampvega you forgot Giorgio Moroder producing and doing a superb job

  • Do any UK viewers remember a live link up version between Donna in The States and Noel Edmonds on one of his Saturday night shows on the BBC? He interviewed her and then she sang the track. Very simple...I remember they repeated her image on screen in boxes...blue background...the screen filled with say 20 boxes with her face in it? Would be good to see if anyone has got it...circa 1982. BY THE WAY... SHE IS NOT HOMOPHOBIC...get over yourselves...SHE IS THE QUEEN!! A TRUE STAR...AN ICON...xxxxx

  • @chrisrkcr- All these people saying she's a major homophobic are saying it for a reason.. because she is, just because you love her doesn't mean we can't hate on her for being discriminitive lol.. I don't think anyone is a queen, thats harsh Titanic mentality, lots of us can do beautiful things for people, get over her, she's queen dyke

  • Massive Homophobic

  • If that policeman between 1,03 and 1,05 is out there please get in touch

  • This song is just perfect, something made me look it up - it makes me smile every time I hear it - thankyou so much for posting it :)

  • Dido brought me here!

  • @Luminni1 Me too! :) But I have to admit I didn't like this song... =\

  • @nisevitoriano It is similar of the rithym of Dont Believe In Love. I like...

  • donna summer was at that time the queen of disco, just like michael is the king of pop

  • @minoeke7 Disco was over by the time this came out.

  • @knoxunflower1 everyone called her the queen of disco even now. she had always verry good songs

  • Wow what a bad version. Some things just shouldn't be remade. The original was brilliant this sounds so amateurish and just bad. What an insult to a great song and sad use of Donna's vocal abilities.

  • @catriona1967 Sorry, but i have to disagree. Granted that some songs should never be remade but i have to say that Donna did a wonderful cover of this all time classic. If it were any body else they definately couldn't have pulled this off as she did. BTW she remade this almost 30 years ago so i think this too is worthy of the classic award too... :-)

  • @Tobyl999

It's a shite version. She's a great singing but this is total shite.

  • great all time song

  • far better than the original new age-like song. this one is so groovy...

  • great song

  • @PokerPlum nope but i aint heard the original & i don't want to xD

  • @PokerPlum your probably older than me so i doubt it :)

  • cover or not im sure this one pissed on the original

  • It's so obvious she was pregnant during this album, as all her videos either DIDN'T show beneath her face, or have had VEEEEERRY covered! lol

  • Great song, love since first heard in the 80's.

  • go donna your fantastic mmmmmmmmmmmmmmwwwwwwwwaaaaaaa

  • This song is so Beautiful it always gives me chills everytime I Hear it.

  • Donna summer the real queen of disco...MORE FANTASTIC ´80´s music at my channel!!!!

  • This song should've been a must after the WTC Attacks.

  • @wurltee31 I was wondering if that was the WTC @1:30. I guess you answered my question. How sweet it could have been to have Jon Anderson, Vangelis, and Donna Summer perform this at the 9/11 10th memorial last week.

  • you know ... I love u xxx

  • Awesome song! Good video. I would think the video would be more creative though.

  • song came out when i was in 8th grade. i miss my 8th grade teacher

  • this deserved much better that US number 41, I can beleive that

  • @hardsam68: I completely agree. But it was too modern for the time. most people didn't quite get it, and that is a shame. THIS SONG IS AWESOME! Very good post.

  • @Chrliesangelsman WOW! I never got that impression at all. I always thought this was always an anthem.

  • @djJackMF: You, I, and other people who are blogging that they like this song, are SPECIAL...... We know good music when we hear it!! hee hee hee :-)

But unfortunately, the song didn't chart well. It missed the top 40, ALTHOUGH it should have soared like "We Are The World" (particularly since it was the precursor to WATW). Obviously, like minds as mentioned above, saw that the song was very forward and was the beginning of a new sound. Thanks for your comment! Take care....

  • @hardsam68 This is a cover... Covers do not deserve to be on any chart...

  • @slinkeey You're a fuckin piece of shit for such a dumb ass statement.

  • @marcusrob02

Hey, she is very talented. Don't get me wrong. The song is a cover though. Sorry to break the news.

  • I LOVE DONNA'S MUSIC VIDEOS!

  • apparently MJ did backing vocals on this track

  • @jeevs202 Michael Jackson as well as Stevie Wonder, Dionne Warwick, Lionel Richie, Kenny Loggins, and James Ingram.

  • @jeevs202 yep

  • @jeevs202 -- Not only is MJ on this song, but so is Lionel Richie, Dionne Warwick, Kenny Loggins, James Ingram and Stevie Wonder! It was the first of those '80s soulish star-studded songs like "We Are the World" and "That's What Friends Are For."

  • @jeevs202 yeah its true , in this time in his long carrer thats what he did

  • @jeevs202 who Spidermans girlfriend ?

  • Love the video. Love the song. Excellent quality.

  • ...good quality, great track!!!
