As babies, their arms & legs are so short, when they try to crawl, their tongues could touch the dirt; even as adults, their limbs are, though powerful, so short (particularly their hind legs) once they slip into the under-side position on a tree branch, there seems to be little hope of ever climbing back up again. Falling seems to be the only option. A good thing adult pandas don't climb tall trees.
