  • you know? you know? you know? lol

  • for an audio advice video, this has some shitty audio quality!

  • Sure, people will always want to create music. That won't ever change. What has changed is nobody is willing to pay for it. The entire recorded music industry business model is broken. Everyone steals everyone's music for free. It's easier to steal it than to legitimately pay. So, nobody is making money on recordings anymore. That means virtually 100% of recording engineering *PAYING* gigs are forever gone. Most recording engineers now work for free.

  • Studios don't give a flying F&^% if you have a 'qualification' in recording or audio engineering. They don't have any jobs, period. There are no new hires going on at any studio in the world that pays enough to pay your rent. Studios are all going broke. Most studios now charge $50/hr and are lucky to get it. There are no jobs for recording engineers anymore. It's a completely dead end profession.

  • @Robynasdf123 How about some references(evidence) to support these claims. Besides this, there's still the film industry which needs sound engineers. I really don't believe that all of the music industry will cease to exist. You must be brainwashed to think something so drastic as ~"people don't like music anymore" is going to fly. Self-respecting people are not going to spend hours scouring the internet to find a descent bedroom engineered recording of Someband.

  • @quartercherries Sadly these claims are easily supported by music sales numbers. Sure there will be jobs for sound engineers in tv and film and live shows. But most artists cannot recoup recording costs with sales, therefore the amount of engineers has been drastically reduced. As an artist who has sold many CD's and downloads on the net I also hate to see this happening, but it's happening. Check out my video "The Institute Of Delusional Audio" and have a laugh otherwise you will cry.

  • i bought some gear and started recording bands i played in for years, i hav an EMI signed artist coming to record with me next month. make a break for urself... dont wait or expect one. :)

  • Im as passionate as anyone and can't get a start. The truth is that getting to work in the recording industry is like winning the lottery.

  • Did you go to school for it? What kind of jobs have you been looking into?

  • I recently finnished my Audio Engineering Diploma, but I couldn't afford to continue. I was advised that some studio's don't like the schooled types, so I have been trying to get some work as an assistant in a recording studio. I have offered my spare time up for free but still nothing.

I've started to get some shifts at a theatre with the audio department and am slowly getting some live sound experience, however its the recording & producing side of things that I really want to break into.

  • I see. I am taking an audio engineering program in college. I find it rather silly that some people don't like schooled (i.e. professionally trained) engineers. Absurd, almost.

I produce electronic music, professionally, with a small label.

I think the diploma has more to do with finding casual work. If you want to break into the industry as a producer you usually need to have some success on your own.

  • Id love to go on with my studies and hopefully I can soon. I guess some engineers like to train people up they're own way, on the job training is usually the best training in any field, but its still very hard to get a start, even if your fully schooled.

Thats great that your working at a professional level.

Im building a studio at home and will start recording bands and other artists soon, hopefully I get some attention by doing some good work.
