@HughStirling ur fuckin stupid stewart copeland is amazing in all but can u imagine him being the backing for led zepplian doing all those insane triplets (good times bad times) and offbeats copeland is not a rock drummer all he knows is ghostnotes which he is great at.. sorry stop being arrogant totally different styles ur comparin and by the way no one has and i mean noone has Bonham's foot and distinctive sound matter of fact 100 bucks stewart copelands prolly influenced by bonham
Look at his left hand. See how he holds the stick? That's how jazz drummers play. Rock drummers hold the sticks like clubs and they sound that way, too. Just hit the skin as hard as you can. Copeland was trained by jazz drummers and carried his training into rock. That's why he sounds so crisp. Rock is not the best medium for drums; jazz is. And jazz is full of great drummers.
And you're kind of showing you're ignorance by proclaiming that one drummer is better than the other when neither have anything in common stylistically with the other. Thanks for the thought, though.
@HughStirling Good lord!!! Please stop the stupid comparisons of drummers who stylistically having nothing in common other than the fact that they play drums. It's so fucking boring!
@stevedrums i didnt say bonham could cover for police fucktard i told u two great totally different types of drummers now stfu and go suck stewart copelands dick
Stuart Copeland didn't need to solo because he was soloing all the time, throughout the songs. Even with the Police's biggest hits on radio, you could hear he was doing whatever the hell he wanted on top. It's a rare style to keep the basic groove but be completely irreverent within it, and you have to earn the right to do it. That's why whenever some clods at a concert would yell for him to "play a solo!" he'd flip them off.
I am THE biggest Copeland fan EVER, copied everything he did, every drum fill album and dozens and dozens of bootlegs. He IS AMAZING, however, the echoplex helps so much with the reggae rimshot/hi-hat work.
Lol he's echo on his rim-shots are crazy. But I feel like it completes the reeggae drumming that he has. I only wonder if he even uses delay for his hi-hat.
Triggers. He's got major delay happening in this clip. Rimshot with delay, that's what you are hearing I believe. Stewart definitely does rule! And yes, of course there are many better drummers out there, but Stewart STILL RULES!
What is he playing with his left hand to get that double "rim click" sound? I know he has a Tom on the left. I wonder if hes playing the rim of the tom or something????
That's what made him so good. Just violently on top of the time, delivered with punk energy. He's time playing is slower and more measured now, having seen the tour last year. Back then he started fast and stayed fast. Pure intensity- love it.
He is the best drummer in the world !!!! he exploded in 1:03. Incredible way and technique of play !!! I learnt from him !!! I am from argentina !! Best regards for all.
o...well thats stupid...although that would be a little odd hearing a copeland solo during a Police concert...Might ruin their mysterious sound.(not sayin he's bad...sayin his solos would be too hard for police)
Its something that kind of irritated the two of them, but they accepted it about the purpose of the band. I don't think it was entirely to serve the ego of Sting. The lead always becomes the face of the band. Sting has never been like a flashy Bono of U2 anyway.
Summers is an extrodinary guitarist and innovator. He, as well as Copeland are as much to credit for the sound of the police. Sting however remained the creative impetus in terms of song writing.
Sting wrote the basic melody. A bit catchy but what Sommers described as "plain fair".
Sting and Andy had knock down drag outs on how exactly to play it. For once Andy one the creative battle and Sting let him play it as he saw fit, some arpeggio version that Andy crafted.
What it became is one of the most recognized guitar riffs in rock history. Sommers is to credit for taking a great song to masterpiece level.
I have yet to see a better all around drummer than Stewart Copeland, he has the best style, has power and finesse and has all the licks but doesnt drone on and on like fucking coailiuta or wekcl he is the shit and nobody can touch him correct me if i'm wrong
great response, gangstable...back then it was considered punk rock because of the genre, however they had that reggae influence..all in all it was just rock...the "punk" part was sort as a fashion thing...hair color, pointy shoes, strait leg trousers, cut up t's....i sound like a 45 year old..lol,lol,....

They have absolutely no aspect of progressive rock left to them alteast not since 1979/80. Do you know where Neil Peart is quoted as saying Copeland is the world's best? Thanks.
Sting and Summers hated punk. It was more like flipping burgers to make your way through college, before the big internship came in.
Sommers actually credits the Police for the eventual death of the Punk scene in Europe.
Here was a group of some of the most talented musicians who could imitate the rest of these talentless prats in the worst kind of sound called Punk and said, thanks but no thanks this sound makes no sense and means nothing.

This dude is amazing he can beat out alot of drummers easily and if anyone has seen another of his clips Andy Summers has to tell him to slow down during a song he lip says " to fast"
Nice glasses Sting...You are nothing without Summers and Copeland. Ahh, Copeland one of the first to use triggers and not over do it. Long live Stewart!

I know that the octobans had the delay on at all times and he has controls to his left that he uses himself. Some songs he has delay on the snare, bass, and hihats.
I agree, without Stewart Cpoeland the Police would have tanked. Listen to Stings voice, it sounds 'painfull'.
Rod Stewart has nodes on his vocal chords the size of soccer balls, his voice sounds like shit!

Mierda! Que buen baterista..., me encanta como toca este tipo, a pesar de los años sigue teniendo esa energía, como cuando recién empezaba. Un grosso!
Stewart is a bad boy, the reason why I thought hitting anything with drumsticks when I was a kid to be normal, after all the police videos wheres hes hitting whatever...great composer too.
Sting and Stewart are like brothers, they fight with each other, but for sure they love each other and are with Andy Summers, so good playing together.

Mierda! Que buen baterista..., me encanta como toca este tipo, a pesar de los años sigue teniendo esa energía, como cuando recién empezaba. Un grosso!
GRAN INFLUENCIA!

Listen to what Andy Summers is doing in the background. Great improviser. Great band.
