I was 9 yrs old and loved this part of my weekend, watching liverpool side smash everyone around and also the 89 final with the gooners. just football and no major money in the game.
@RSidhuR Elton does a lot of corporate and charity work nowadays, and his charity of choice is Zoe's Place (which is a children's hospice). He has also toured with Ricky Tomlinson in the stage production of 'An Evening With Ricky Tomlinson' with Ricky reprising the part of Jim Royle from The Royle Family.
Sunday afternoons... Elton Wellsby - check, Brian Moore - check, Jimmy Greaves - check. Ace theme tune. Shame that free to air league football scarcely exist these days.
When football was still the working man's game. Spent most Sundays watching Elton & Brian Moore, followed by Jim Bowen and Bully. Many happy memories of watching Arsenal and their games over great sides of the day (Liverpool, Nottingham Forest, Sheffield Wednesday and even Luton Town!) Sadly, money killed the game and made it a business - at least non-league is still (for now) the domain of the true football fans.
you are my hero for uploading this on here. absolutely loved the match and elton welsby. those were the good old days. 1 live game on a sunday, then you'd copy the action in the playground the next day at school. glorious memories when we were young and lived together. now we've grown up and moved on but how great it would be to be a kid again. thank you very much.
Quality upload from when football was football. When we had Division One to Four, no silly league names, and no foreign ownership of every club, before money ruined the game.
@JoeRyan33 I think Canon League was a silly name. But Divisions One to Four, YES!!! Think the name League One was created to make Leeds feel better about themselves.
These were the days. No Moloko. No Kasabian. No Andy Gray fucking around with computer graphics. Just football. Give me "Division 1" over "The Premier League" anyday. Remember Brian Moore "AND IT'S IN THERE!!!" LOL
@DarthCipient i don't think i have heard a truer comment on youtube than yours. takes me back to the days of having sunday roast at home then running down the road to a mates house and playing with his cars or space lego with football on the telly in the back ground. i was positive we used to watch live div 1 games on sat/sun afternoons. now its just greedy league teams and players, wealthy foreign owners and piss taking tv companies with everything boiling down to money money money
@drrrink00 i remeber that villa game well i got stick from all my villa fan friends at primary school but i still wore my everton top (and stourbridge fc scarfe) on the monday and brian moore was the best along with martin tyler and barry davies
@uptheglassboys but in those days footy so great, unpredictable. now its yawn, yawn, man ure or chelski 1st and 2nd. now its whos got biggest bank balance or far east support thanx to murdoch an hiss sky cronies. also remember prob best game not broadcast - same season, everton 3 villa 3 after 92 min. soaring header into efc net til dave bloody platt scissor kicked off line 4u - what a prise tit!! best of luck rest of this season tho efc, wud love 2see liverpool go down all same...
i watch stourbridge now more than everton been watching stourbridge after the 86 world cup (6yo) and not missed a game since 1995 home n away (includinf friendlys) and i remember stourbridge beating villa 4-1 (i think) in birmingham senior cup in 1991 when dwight yorke played
Agree totally - Elton and Bryan were The Match...the graphics predicted Sky's metallic flair, the synth riff chased that spinning turnstyle with orgasmic energy...
nb - the match, not the big match, which was from 70s/early 80s and not live!! ;)
Oh the memories, particularly of my first North London derby, October 18th 1989, Vinny Samways and Paul Walsh scoring the goals as the scum were thrashed 2-1. Elton Welsby anchoring, the one and only Brian Moore commentating, football as it should be!

Wonderful theme tune, evoking memories of what was, in so many ways, a better time for our game. Thanks for making me seven or eight all over again.

Life before the premiershit, when football was for the real fan on the terrace, not the foreign twats in the posh suits sitting in boxes!

I have goosebumps hearing this again! Best football theme ever - then they used to play "final fight" from Rocky IV as the lineups came up.

@Rayzorsharp24 The song from Rocky IV is called War, by Vince DiCola.
