Strange commercial film for a communist country like Czech-Slovakia in the 60. The Tatra driver breaks the law by driving too fast and the passengers looks like bourgeois people.

I wonder if this was meant to be dubbed or sub-titled and then shown in foreign markets? When this was filmed, Tatra was actively trying to export the 603 to the West, and certainly some were sold, as there are antique 603s in California and in Canada.

Ok. At such a premium price, sounds like the Tatra 602 was the Mercedes-Benz of Czech Republic (Czecslovakia). If it were allowed in the USA, at least we'd have a choice as to what rear-engined car Americans want to drive, a 4 cylinder air-cooled car with an inferior heating system, a 6 cylinder Corvair, made in the USA or an 8 cylinder Tatra. I'd go for either the Corvair, or the Tatra.

here in slovakia are the newer model Tatra 613 sold between 2500-5000USD

This one Tatra 603 isn easyt to get even here in Czech or Slovak republic.

hmm, dobře, to si koupim, Kde to prodávaj, kolik to stojí? Co tím chci říct? Že ta reklama je fakt účinná, opravdu jsem zatoužil takový vůz mít a ne jen proto, ž eje to nádherné svébytné auto, ale i pro jeho skvělé, na svoji dobu, naprosto luxusní jízdní vlastnosti. Jistě - spotřeba, hlučnost..já vím. Ale kdyby byly 60.leta a takový auto by se dalo normálně koupit, chtěl bych ho :-)

I really like Tatras but I think in these test conditions the driver must be expert at balancing the rear end of the car, as it steps out frequently. And not a mark on the paint after its roll down the hillside! Though very impressive structural strength. The 603 is without doubt my favourite Eastern Bloc car.

Same here, i really love Tatra's, and especially the 603. Most people find them very ugly. I think they look great. And just open the bonnet, now THAT's an engine!!

I also love the Lada Niva and the old Skoda's with rear engines> But the Tatra 603 is my favourite by far.

What amazes me about this piece of film is that it is a jazzy advert for a Communist Bloc car. I thought Communism was all sombre music and ten year waiting lists! No woman I know would willingly step out into the snow in those shoes! And what a strange hand gesture the guy gives the driver before he takes the Tatra up the hill for the barrel roll...almost rude! Presumably it was supposed to be a demo run...wonder if he bought the car? :o)

I saw my first Tatra in 1964 when I visited CZ and was most impressed. They appeared to be driven then by Government Officials.Did they become available to the general public?

The police van chasing this 603 appears to be based on the four-cylinder Tatraplan. That's something you don't often see either! All great fun this film, reminding me of my own road trip thru Czechoslovakia in 1992. Lots of "radarcontrolle" on the open road; the one time they pulled me over with one of those little red circles on a stick, the cop let me go as soon as he found out I could not speak a word of Czech.

Yeah, I got pulled over and was levied a 12-Dollar fine when he found out that was all I had. I suppose that amount increases with your ability to speak Czech. I guess that means no non-native speaker will ever pay the full amount since the language is so difficult to learn!
