Frusciante has been affected by the years of using drugs. During 99 his vocal was a disaster and you can hear it in this vid. It took him some time to get back into shape.
But the scars on his mind remain.

I meant John's vocals, he just couldn't or didn't want to reach the low notes to say "equality" or "hollow tree"

o i get it now but i disagree i dont think john was uncomfortable i think he was just uk improvising and changing things uk he does it on the guitar all the time
