Many people have claimed to find Herobrine legit, but it is completely impossible and was a joke that Notch went along with. In a livestream, some people made a server mod that allowed them to spawn in a "Herobrine" model, and then faked a server crash. People viewing the livesteam were then re-directed to a site consisting of Herobrine as a background. His skin is Steve w/ eyes.
