  • DONT MATTER WHO SINGS THE SONG,BUT AS LONG AS ITS WORSHIPING GOD THT WHAT IMPORTANT .

  • Thanksgiving Day 2011 - Thank you for such a beautifully sung song of the ability to give thanks to our God regardless of the circumstances of our lives. Last November 2010 I lost my best friend, Cindy, to cancer. I give thanks for having known her in this life and will be reunited in the next. Thank you. Dixie Lee

  • ( in the description: "A beautiful Song By Chris Rice". This song is NOT by Chris Rice. This song is by Horatio Spafford, motivated out of the tragedy of losing his daughter and wife.

  • @klein1626

His wife survived. His 4 daughters died when the ship sunk. He had lost his only son to scarlet fever earlier.

  • I never understood religion. Have tried numerous times and still don't. Maybe if I learn and sing this song I will understand the purpose of my life!

  • @TomCei it is not the religion, but the acceptance of Christ in your life. He came down to earth to die for our sins and give us everlasting life.

Life might seem bad at times, but Jesus Christ satisfies our soul and gives us hope for the future. Jeremiah 29:11 says "For I know the plans I have for you," says the Lord. "They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope." :)

  • amazingly good ! Chris

  • When you compare a song like this to the stuff being introduced to churches today the difference is huge. One musician I know calls the new stuff 7-11 songs... Seven word choruses repeated eleven times....

  • @in2food It might not be everyone's cup of tea, but "7-11 songs" have made a real and lasting difference in my life. It is a huge difference, but I'd suggest that using terms like that is unfortunate. God uses both hymns and praise & worship tunes for His glory and to change hearts. Personally, I feel like it's a discipline to have to focus on one aspect of God's goodness for more than a passing phrase. Just another position. :)

  • @Shelley464 focusing on 1 aspect of God's goodness and saying two or three words about it over & over &over are more "vain repetition" than discipline. It reminds me of a child saying socks in the hamper-wrapper in the trash over & over so they remember. 7-11 songs have a purpose with new believers & children, but i believe these childish versions should grow into more sophisticated reverent songs with the growth of the believer. another position :)

  • @hollypods Just because you don't value it doesn't make it in "vain." Passing judgement on how others worship because of how the song is written just feels unhelpful. Also, "socks in the hamper-wrapper in the trash" is quite different than the truth of God's character, so that's a little offensive. :P I value both forms of worship and recognize that it's the Holy Spirit, not the style, that changes hearts during worship.

  • what a sweet set of pipes!! go chris!!!

  • This is my favorite version of this hymn.

  • I am an ELCA Lutheran from South Carolina. I play the piano and organ. Today (August 7), I filled in at a local Lutheran Church. I played this as the Hymn of the Day. It is #785 in Evangelical Lutheran Worship. On a personal note, my mother, who is a former Baptist, wants this sung at her funeral.

  • This song is not by Chris Rice. it is a hymn. He just recorded it.

  • @gutair07 too awesome :)

  • Knowing the background of Spafford's great personal loss brings Romans 8:28 into clearer focus than ever. One man's loss has become the theme of one of the most beautiful hymns ever written in the English language! Thanks to Chris Rice for his contribution.

  • "My sin, O the bliss of this glorious thought! My sin not in part but the whole, is nailed to the cross, and I bear it no more, Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, O my soul!" so be it!

  • "My sin, O the bliss of this glorious thought! My sin not in part but the whole, is nailed to the cross, and I bear it no more, Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, O my soul!"

This is my favorite hymn, & those words always bring tears to my eyes. It's the beautiful message of the gospel; Jesus died in our place. He bore our sin & took God's wrath intended for us upon Himself willingly. If we place our trust in what He has DONE & not by what we could ever DO, we bear sin & guilt & no more!

  • just to let you know he didnt write this song

  • I find the story of this song to be inspiring and timeless. It's amazing to me how such a beautiful song came out of such deep loss! Shows that God even uses our tragedies to to share his love trhough his people.

  • Rom 1-25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen :

Col 1-15 who is image of the invisible God, firstborn of all creation

  • my mom just passed away March 11th 2011. my dad is dying of heart failure. as of this writing i just came from the ER. my prayer today was Lord I humbly come to you I don't know if we can take it any more. I want my soul to be well. please pray for my family.

  • @hlub82 I am praying for you. I pray for the peace of our Father to rest upon you.

  • @mikeshahan1960 thank you now i know why I felt so at peace today. i don't know what's going to happen in the next couple of months but i'm glad he's my dad. i loved him dearly and i've told him that. both parents lived with me. my mom passed away peacefully in my house surrounded by all her children. didn't have the heart to place them in a nursing home. loved them too much. thank God for both of them. thank God for a loving and caring wife as well. once again thank you for your prayer friend.

  • one of my favorite hymns, it takes all of my sorrows and reminds me that I am never alone

  • Makes my heart smile...

  • My bestfriend is dying of cancer, and listen to this song everyday to remind myself that it is well with my soul. God will get me through this ♥

  • @hlub82

i know how you feel but i never want to discuss it.god bleess you and your father. This song might help.Stay strong and rember to pray, ill pray for you too.

  • Excellent song. I am reminded that it is well with my soul, I have so much peace listening to it...

  • Beautiful, absolutely beautiful. When the world gets heavy, this reminds me of how wonderful Christ is. "My sin, not in part, but the whole, is nailed to the cross, and I bear it no more. Praise the Lord, Praise the Lord, oh, my soul!"

  • i love this song

  • God is really good to us

  • i thank the supreme God and father for this. am inspired

  • This is such a beautiful Hymn, I am amazed at the circumstances in which it was written. It takes a strong faith to say " it is well with my Soul". Or can I say its the implicit obedience to leave the lingering sorrow back to Jesus and nail to the cross. I wish we can always reflect upon the history in which Songs were written , so we learn lesson and take back the thought that Our Trial is'nt that big after all

  • I would sing this song in church knowing that it had great meaning to me but not until my son was murdered at the age of 18 did it become significant in my life. I would say to people when they asked "I am well". One time a friend said to me "With your Soul" the song came back to memory and I knew that I am OK as the Lord carried my son home and one day as a family, we will see him again. I miss my wonderful son. One day, along with my sons kids, we will all be praising God together again.

  • @hlmills2000 i SO understand; i had to play this song so many times after my only sister was murdered last may. & now, less than 2 weeks ago, our 20 yr old son has suddenly & unexpectedly died. so again, i play this, to keep my soul calm. ~ prayers & Christian love to you, on your so painful loss!

  • @hlmills2000

So sorry that you have had to experience the loss of a son, but thank you for sharing your story with us! God bless

  • @hlmills2000

Know that Mary, mother of Jesus, KNOWS your pain. Knows the pain of losing a son

  • @hlmills2000 so sorry for your loss

  • It is VERY WELL with my soul!!! Thank You, Jesus, for delivering me from a 4 year depression!!! Praise Your name, Father God!!!

  • A beautiful rendition. A lot of artists try to do too much with this song, but it's beautiful on its own!

  • 2 Timothy 1:2b Grace, mercy and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.

  • It is well with my soul! thank you Jesus!

  • @AChannel4GodsLove

This song was sung by my nephew at my mother in law's funeral,. It is well with her soul, as well. We lost my mother in law two years ago today. This song is such a comfort though our tears. God bless you and your family.

  • @ciymon I understand the blessing of this song. I too have suffered the loss of many loved ones. And yes this song is a great comfort. There is nothing like the comfort and strength of our Lord Jesus Christ....our rock. You will see them again dear one. God created us all as eternal beings. May God's love fill your soul and mind.

  • @AChannel4GodsLove Thank you for your words

  • I listen to this beautiful hymn when I feel like there is nothing left. I went to jail for a few months and when the Chaplin asked what song to sing I always chose this one. Now I have lost my sister and best friend, and the choir sang this song for us at her church funeral. I'm feeling lost again today. This song gives me a peace in my heart. Thank you

  • let well with your soul too:) For every thing is possible before GOD. Jeremiah 29:11

"For I know the plans I have for you," says the Lord. "They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope."

So, it is well with my soul:)

  • @PrinceLuvPeace I love what you said. It's going on Facebook. =)

  • @SabreLeonheart

    cool:)

  • @PrinceLuvPeace

    AMEN

  • awesome testimony

  • Somehow his wife, Anna, survived. On arriving in England, she sent a telegram to Horatio with the words "Saved alone."

Spafford then took a ship to England, going past the place where his daughters had died. According to his daughter, Bertha Spafford, the hymn was written in 1873 in mid-Atlantic.

  • it is a beautiful hymn. I remember they would sing this hymn quite often at the church I started going to in 95' and it was pretty and all; but when I gave my life, heart and soul to Jesus. This hymn, like the Word of God; it all came to life for me. Awesome when you really see the light; and the history behind the writer of this song is beautiful too. I was told that the writer was going to id his family who had been killed in a crash and on the plane he wrote this; what strength God gives.

  • it's actually written by Horatio Spafford.

  • beautiful hymn
